fedora core 6 (writable file permissions related)
by Harpreet Dhaliwal
Hi,
I've been asked to check permissions on system directories and files using
the follwoing command:
# find / -perm -002 -type f -print
output of this command is as follows:
/proc/2056/attr/keycreate
/proc/2056/attr/sockcreate
/proc/2057/task/2057/attr/current
/proc/2057/task/2057/attr/exec
/proc/2057/task/2057/attr/fscreate
/proc/2057/task/2057/attr/keycreate
/proc/2057/task/2057/attr/sockcreate
/proc/2057/attr/current
/proc/2057/attr/exec
/proc/2057/attr/fscreate
/proc/2057/attr/keycreate
/proc/2057/attr/sockcreate
/proc/2058/task/2058/attr/current
/proc/2058/task/2058/attr/exec
/proc/2058/task/2058/attr/fscreate
/proc/2058/task/2058/attr/keycreate
I don't know how in the world this kind of output would tell me the
permissions.
I really did not understand it.
Can someone help me out with this problem.
thanks in advance,

" I see that with WEP enabled, the wireless doesnot comes up
(fails to determine IP address). But it comes up fine when connected
to a non-secure network
(without WEP).
Have anyone faced this issue. I am using "system-configure-network" GUI
tool to configure my wireless card. Is there any other way to configure
the wireless card? "
I was eventually able to get my Aironet 350 card to work by using a
script and iwconfig. But it was fragile, and sometimes did not work even
with NetworkManager and NetworkManagerDispatcher running. And
system-configure-network does not allow for the correct entries are you
can put on a command line with iwconfig.
You will have to run 'man iwconfig' and work up from there.
Best $50 I have recently spent was to buy an IntelPro 2915 mini-pci card
and replaced the Cisco. In my case, I have to find and download a small
program to fix the 'error 1802' error, as the card I bought was not
exactly the one it was supposed to be: that is, one that is listed in my
T-40's bios as being an original IBM card. But the 'no-1802' program
pokes the Bios to not run the card check and all is well. The card uses
the Intel ipw2200 or the ibm ipw2200 drivers and works perfectly.

Partitions while installing FC6
by Alex Miua
Hi all!
I am a newbie as you can make out from my posts. I
wish to ask a question about installing FC6.
I have Win XP with lots of free space, but no
"unallocated space" . Which option should I choose to
allocate around 10 GB to linux.
Please clarify as none of the options seemed to work.
Thank you,
Alex.

seamonkey font problem
by Gene Heskett
Greetings;
TBE they're so small as to require both a strong magnifying glass and a
bit of imagination to read them. I'm taking maybe 0.020" high here.
Now, I can go into prefs and tell it to use 40 point fonts which brings
slashdot up to somewhat small, but readable. But it only applies to the
web pages content, not seamonkey's own menu's and such, they remain
unchanged.
Unforch, nothing I can do seem to be able to effect the size of the fonts
used in the address bar and other similar locations, like the status line
at the bottom. When it says done, that word will fit between | | with
lots of room to spare.
Does anyone have a formula that would make seamonkey usable?

Hi,
it uses xine engine. As long as xine
can play it, it should work.
However, I have no m4v file to test. I will have to download one first.
Also, xine-lib 1.4 from extras is out there today. I am just waiting
for the non-free part from freshrpms to install it.

files from subscribed channels but does not play any of these > - just

so why not to use them as a backend?
I think you did not understand.
First, I said I fixed their rpms. It does not crash playing videos anymore.
Second, they use xine or gstreamer engine to play the videos,
and third, the application uses bittorrent technology to download the videos
with a nice interface.
Therefore, they offer a very good integration of open software tools. The
videos
are associated to channels, and any group of people can define a new
channel.
Is it experimental? Yes. Isn't it perfecet yet? Yes.
But I think it has a promising future.

fixed 2.6.19 kernel package?
by Jack Howarth
Does anyone know when a new FC6 kernel package will be released
to fix all of the problems that the current 2.6.19 based package
has? Are they just waiting for 2.6.20 to be released first? I ask
because I need to install a new machine next week and it would
be nice if a current stable kernel package was available based on
2.6.19 or 2.6.20-rc's. Thanks in advance for any information.
