Cut and paste behavior
by Chu Jeang Tan
I find that if I cut some text from an app, once the app is closed the
text in the clipboard is also cleared.
Is this a linux feature, or some bug that happens on my installation?
Thanks

Fedora 7, Xen and Solaris
by Miner, Jonathan W (US SSA)
Hi -
I have Fedora 7 and Xen 3.1.0 installed. Running in 32-bit mode.
Using the GUI interface, I have been able create virtual machines for Fedora 7 and CentOS 5. Both of those work.
I tried to install a Solaris 10 (06/06) virtual machine and that fails; the vm reboots fairly soon, and tries to boot from the harddrive image and reports that it's not bootable. The disk image is all zero bytes.
Has anyone done thus before?
Thanks
- Jon

Network connection settings are diver stored in diver places of OS FS structure.
by Strong
I've found 3 places where information on my dial-up connections are
stored up:
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
/etc/sysconfig/networking/devices
/etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/default
They list the same device-configs but they are different as to their
content. Thus, in one place, for the same connection, I have
compression enabled, at another place for the same it is disabled. In
one, idletimeout is set 1 min, at another - 120 min - all for the same
connection.
Thus, system-config-network shows one configuration, in reality, it
does not work - because at another place the connection configuration
differ.
Mu questions are:
1. With which tool to configure the best in my upgraded FC6 to F7, and
2. Which configuration (those places of above mentioned) does wvdial
use?
3. Why one info is not stored in one place, but in many, and differs?
Big thanks.

Fedora Core 6: mplayer a HD-file

Hello All,
I tried to play a HD video file with mplayer. I got the audio but
there was no video - only the blue box. I tried searching over the Net
but I couldn't find the answer...
Can you give me some hints?
I have a P4-3GHz machine with Intel's integrated graphics running
Fedora Core 6, kernel 2.6.22.9-61.fc6.
Here's the output of mplayer:

Sorry for a silly question and thanks in advance!

remote firefox
by Andras Simon
I'd like to start Firefox on a remote machine (FC5) and have it
display locally (F7). But whenever I try, a new window of the locally
running FF comes up. It seems that the startup script is too clever
(or I'm too dumb). (DISPLAY is fine, I can use other remote X programs
without problems.)

[OT?] Freecell and XFCE
by das
Hello Friends
Thanks to suggestions by some friends here (particularly Frank Cox) my
XFCE and Claws-mail are running quite nicely on this extremely old HW.
This Claws-mail is a gem. So light-weight and so full of features. I
deinstalled evolution after making the imports.
One funny thing: the Freecell game is not shown in the games menu. I
can start it with 'sol --variation freecell'. But, it was very surprising.

[OT] High Performance Samba???
by Deepak
Hi,
This can be rather silly question but I have few questions regarding
file and print sharing implementation using CIFS/SMB based protocol.
Condition:
=========================
# File Type: Media File
# Client OS: Windows XP
# File access mode: Read only
# Heavy use expected
# Seeking of file position is expected to be very heavy since client
can forward or rewind the media file as they wish
# Environment: LAN
# No. of Clients: 30-50
=========================
Questions
==========
How can I use my regular desktop PCs as file servers to support these
number of clients? Since I have heard about Samba clustering (but not
very familiar with it), I am thinking that I can make use of ordinary
PCs instead of buying a giant server machine. Can this be possible???
Another side question is: Since SMB protocol has reputation of being
noisy which can clog the network, is it even possible to have 50 units
in one segment? (this implementation is based on simple workgroup, no
domains and domain controllers).
Is there an equivalent clustering solution if it is implemented using
windows OS?
I am asking this because my experience in this matter is limited to 10
computers only and don't know any details about protocol itself.
Thanks in advance

Problems Finding In Yum Install!!!
by Jyotishmaan Ray
Dear All FEDORA-LIST Members,
I would like to request you, to plz go through my mail and let me know why these errors are shown with the following repo-files of /etc/yum.repos.d/. The files are enclosed herewith this mail.
Please answer my question:-
1.
If the base url with repository path has to be defined in all the .repo files present in the directory, /etc/yum.respos.d/ ?
2. How does it make a difference to use the baseurl in all the three section of all these files viz.,fedora-development.repo fedora.repo fedora-updates.repo fedora-updates-testing.repo ?
3. Is it necssary to make the value of the variables-
enable=1
gpgcheck=1
or should they be made equal to 0?
4. In the case when enable=1 and gpgcheck=0 and with all the enclosed files of /etc/yum.repos.d/ i got the following errors as shown below:-

Plz note that the files could not be enclosed as, the internet leased line was little slow.
I am sure some of you have experienced this, and would expect to know from your experience, how to solve this ??
Your kind helpful ideas would enable me to install opendap packages!!!

Gimp 2.4.0 in F7
by Christopher A. Williams
I know it only released a couple of days ago, but are there any specific
plans to include GIMP 2.4.0 as an update in F7?
I'm assuming we'll eventually see it in F8 since 2.4.0RC is in there
now...
Cheers,
Chris
