Try:
MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1 firefox
Presuming there's no firefox running for that user on the remote machine.

The only problem is that it works only if there's no firefox running
_locally_ for the user with the same username as the remote one's. But
MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1 firefox -P default
solves that problem, too.
