Is somethign wrong with gcj?
by Arthur Pemberton
I have to ask, because i was running Azuerus on my pspage machine ,
800 MHz and 256MB of ram, and it ws simply killing the machine. X took
mins to wake up after falling asleep. The cursor frequenlty wouln't
move, the machine was basically unuseable + torrent performance was
dismal.
As per suggested on the mailinglist, installed Sun java (based on
intructions from fedorafaq.org) and wow, I have literally have had a
near 10 fold performance increase. I can use the machine as if Azuerus
isn't even running. Plus where as before I was gettign about 8KB/s I
am hitting over 100 KB/s. Where as portions of the GUI did't work, it
all works.
So I have to ask...what's wrong with gcj?
Peace.

I did as you suggested and it didn't work.
How does one relabel. In the past I turned selinux off - reboot turn selinux
on -reboot. This to me is inefficient. Is there another way?

Torrent client suggestions
by Arthur Pemberton
Can anyone suggest a good torrent client? I use Fedora Core 5. The the
python Bittorrent is fast and light, but gives me corrupted video
files when its done. Azerus give me perfect files, but it sucks the
life out of dev/testing box to the point where the display takes
minutes to wakeup after it goes to sleep from lack of use.
Suggestions of something inbetween would be nice.
Thank you.

Apache SSL not working
by Bill Habermaas
Has anyone had problems getting Apache SSL working on FC5?
I have a Dell PowerEdge 1750 with FC5, Apache 2.2.0. I have tried everything to get HTTPS to work without success. HTTP works fine, no errors in any of the logs, but HTTPS urls just hang and eventually timeout with a page not found. No errors appear in the Apache SSL logs either. I have removed Apache entirely and reinstalled with YUM but still encounter the same problem. I have FC5 running on a laptop and it works just fine (same version of Apache) and the configuration files have been compared line-by-line for errors or typos. I even tried different SSL certificates to no avail. Now I am wondering if it something to do with the hardware. I'm out of ideas on what else to check.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

[OT] any good device driver writing courses out there?
by Robert P. J. Day
any pointers to (well-written) courseware for writing device drivers
for the 2.6 kernel? i'm interested in courseware that i can license
on a per-class or per-student basis, or whatever basis one is willing
to discuss. thanks.
rday
p.s. no, you don't get a finder's fee. :-)
p.p.s. the course will be taught on fedora core, so there's the
connection.

Strange DVD issue
by Anne Wilson
I burned FC6t1 to a DVD and verified it. The DVD automounts on insertion on
this box. I then tried to boot my old laptop from the DVD, and the drive
ground on as though there was an imbalance, unable to boot. I took the disk
to another box, and it booted to the install screen without problems.
I put a Knoppix DVD into the laptop drive, and that boots OK.
This is reminding me of problems reported on the Mandriva lists. As I recall,
it was said that two versions of boot were available, one on CD1 and one on
CD2 to get round the physical problems some people were experiencing. Is
this a real problem, or a figment of my ancient laptop?

Fedroa Core 5 Java
by Jeanette Russo
Can someone please help me troubleshoot why my
broswers are not using Java vm.
I installed the RPM's from Sun and they installed fine
and I can see them load when the machine boots.
But neither Firefox or Opera are using the java.
I am a kind of new user returning after being away
from Linux for the last 4 years
Thanks
Jeanette
