USB mouse crashed for no reason on Fedora 5
by Yu Yi
hi, I installed a fedora 5 on the notebook (Micro star S260-1758DL), the
usb mouse crashed shortly after starting system. At the beginning it
still works fine, but just for several minitues, I guess it shuts down
if I stop using it a little while. I checked the status of usb ports
before and after crashing by using "dmesg | grep -i usb", there is no
difference. Does anybody know how to solve it? Thanks.

dosbox-0.65-1
by Eric Donkersloot
Hi all,
I've installed dosbox-0.65-1 on my machine at home, but running it kills
the system, everything seems to hang and I have to reboot my box. I
can't find anything in the logs and SELinux is disabled by the way. Any
ideas ?

kernel-2.6.17-1.2139_FC5 broke ACPI S3 on thinkpad T42p
by Ed Hill
Hi folks,
The current FC5 kernel update (2.6.17-1.2139) broke ACPI S3 sleep on my
ThinkPad T42p and I've bugzilla-ed it at:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=196835
I've been using ACPI S3 sleep daily (suspend/resume for the commute is
very convenient!) and its worked quite reliably for all the prior FC5
kernels--sometimes 4 and 5 sus/res cycles in a day and the uptimes were
only interrupted by the kernel updates.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Does anyone have suggestions
on how to fix or work around it? For the mean time, I've downgraded to
the last working which is 2.6.16-1.2133_FC5.

Creating dd (driver disk) for FC5, installer "disagrees about version of symbol struct_module"
by Pasi Kärkkäinen
Hi!
I'm trying to build Qlogic qla4xxx HBA driver (floppy dd image) for FC5, using
ddiskit 0.9.5.
I've successfully built the dd image for 2.6.15-1.2054_FC5 and 2.6.15-1.2054_FC5smp
kernels. I had to manually add "modules.pcimap" and "pci.ids" files to the
generated image.. otherwise the FC5 installer complained that those files
are missing from the dd image.
When I boot FC5 CD with "linux dd", and try to load the driver disk, the
installer doesn't load the driver.. If I try to load the driver manually
with insmod (when in the installer) I get:
qla4xxx: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module
modinfo says:
"vermagic: 2.6.15-1.2054_FC5 686 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-4.1"
Is that correct? Looks like correct to me..
Is there something special compilation flags or something that I should be
using.. ?
Thanks!

Use of Cups printing in a home network.
by Aaron Konstam
I would like to use cups printing in my home network which consists of a
three Linux machines connected to a DSL router.
I would like to use one of the machines as the print server and be able
to print from all the three machines, but nothing I try works. I can't
make browsing to occur.
I suspect that this has something to do with transmission to the
various machines through port 631 but could anyone explain how this can
be done?

file-copy corruption
by Terry Horsnell
I'm in the process of moving stuff from our Alpha fileserver
onto A linux replacement. I've been using gnu-tar to copy filesystems
from the Alpha to to the Linux NFS-exported disks over a 1Gbit LAN,
followed by diff -r to check that they have copied correctly (I wish
diff had an option to not follow symlinks..). I've so far transferred
about 3 TiB of data (spread over several weeks) and am concerned
that during this process, 3 files were mis-copied without any
apparent hardware-errors being flagged. There was nothing unusual
about these files, and re-copying them (with cp) fixed the problem.
Are occasional undetected errors like this to be expected?
I thought there were sufficient stages of checksumming/parity
(both boxes have ECC memory) etc to render the probability
of this to be vanishingly small.
On all 3 files, multiple retries of the diff still resulted
in a compare error, which was then fixed by a re-copy. This
suggests that the problem occurs during the 'gtar' phase, rather
than the 'diff -r' phase.
Does anyone know of a network-exercise utility I can use
to check the LAN component of the data-path?
Cheers,
Terry.
