Thunderbird message list font
by Ian Pilcher
I am in the process of migrating from FC5 to FC6. Things are looking
good (much better than this point during my FC4-to-FC5 migration)!
One issue I do have is the *extremely* bold font that is being used in
the Thunderbird message list. Google found a page that explains how to
change it by editting userChrome.css, but I was wondering if there was a
GNOME setting somewhere that affects this.
Anyone know? Thanks!

What does you /etc/fstab file look like? I'm not understanding what you
mean by "mount manually" fails on reboot but you can mount it, "once the
machine comes up." Is your mount command in /etc/init.d/rc.local?

evolution deleted message display
by Les Mikesell
Just recently my evolution on FC5 started to display deleted message
subjects with a large black bar that I find distracting instead of
the previous tastefully thin overstrike to indicate deletion. Does
anyone know how to get the old display back? I assume this was a
change from a recent update, but I don't see anything about
evolution in the yum log.

What is the consensus on the best partition scheme and size?/Keeping home separate
by linux
I want to install FC6 on my laptop. When I install I usually do a
complete new install instead of an update. For example when going from
FC4 to FC5, I did a new install. how can I partition my hd so that I
can keep /home and not overwrite it? Do I make it a separate
partition? What is the consensus on the best partition scheme and size?

Please run yum from the command line and post the totem-xine
announcement messages you're getting. I replaced totem with totem-xine
on three different systems and have not seen these messages.

Custom kernel rebuild fails for kernel-2.6.18-1.2798
by Kevin Flynn
After a clean install of FC6, I wanted to build a custom kernel. Nothing
exotic: I just selected my specific CPU type (pentium 4) in generating the
.config file. Then I use rpmbuild to build it.
Sometime during the module building it exits with the following error:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
+ for i in '`cat modnames`'
+ sh ./scripts/modsign/modsign.sh
/var/tmp/kernel-2.6.18-1.2798-root/lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2798PAE/kernel/drivers/media/dvb/frontends/dib3000mc.ko
Red
./scripts/modsign/modsign.sh: line 46: 21871 Segmentation fault gpg
--no-greeting $KEYFLAGS -b $module.out
error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.98856 (%build)
RPM build errors:
Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.98856 (%build)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Any ideas? Has anyone else build a custom kernel from the .src rpm yet?

For clean installs, I think the *only* verified bug is the installation
of the i586 kernel headers with the i686 kernel. Even this won't cause
a problem unless somebody tries to compile something that needs the
kernel headers. I think the other complaints are all just functionality
changes from previous versions (it's not a bug; it was intended) or
people trying to do an unsupported upgrade (it's unsupported for a
reason). Unfortunately, these complaints create a lot of noise that
someone new to the list might mistake for systemic problems.
The only problem I saw on my test box (clean install preserving /home)
was the kernel headers problem. I'll be installing FC6 on a x86_64
laptop and a dual Athlon system later today (just preserving /home).
Cheers,
Dave

[FC5] "Sender address rejected" for just about all email now
by Stuart Murray-Smith
Hi list
Package mix:
Postfix-2.2.2-2
Cyrus-imapd-2.2.12-6
Amavisd-new-2.4.2-2
I'm getting:
Sender address rejected: Domain not found
for just about all inbound email.
Time to switch off spam filters and reassess filtering policy? Or has
one of the blacklists that I'm not aware of unlearned spam patterns?
Please advise :-)

yum problem - and solution
by Timothy Murphy
The second time I ran "sudo yum update" after upgrading to FC-6
I got the error
Metadata file does not match checksum
even after running "yum clean all" and "yum makecache".
So I googled for
'yum "Metadata file does not match checksum"'
and got the advice
======================================
i did this
mv /var/cache/yum/* /tmp
than i run the yum install <appz>
======================================
which did indeed do the trick.
This leaves me slightly puzzled -
(1) Why did I get this error?
and
(2) Why did "yum clean all" not solve the problem?
