Dovecot config imap and pop3
by Kevin Old
Hello everyone,
I'm running FC2 and the latest Dovecot for FC2. I've got it
configured correctly accepting pop, pops and imaps connections.
My question is, can dovecot be configured to allow for a few accounts
to be imap in an all pop environment? For example, I have an account
for user kdo which is a pop account. I'd like to make an account for
user kdoimap which would be an imap account.
The thing that I'm confused about is how does dovecot know if it's
imap or pop (other than the port it's connecting on) and store the
mail correctly. I have this set in my /etc/dovecot.conf
default_mail_env = mbox:~/mail/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u
How would I get an imap account setup?
Any help is appreciated,
Kevin

FC3 Gnome apps access / but only under other desktops ??
by David Jansen
I seem to be running into all kinds of weird problems, and here is
another one:
Some users on our university systems are running into problems after the
upgrade to FC3. It seems that Gnome applications (or actually
applications that use the Gnome file dialogs, including OpenOffice.org
and Firefox) have the nasty tendency to access the / directory when the
file dialog pops up. But this only happens under other desktop
environments (KDE, XFCE, twm), not on Gnome itself.
The problems with it is two-fold: on some systems, we have set / to be
only executable for non-root users. This is normally fine, and it
prevents users from poking around in areas where they have no
business. Looked like an ideal setup for student computer labs at the
time, and worked flawlessly under FC1 and 2. However, now with FC3 this
results in a glibc "double free or corruption" error.
The other side of the problem: when / is accessible to the user, as it
is on most systems, opening the file dialog will somehow try to make a
listing of all mount points configured in automount, and we have a lot
of those, so this may take quite some time, just for opening a file dialog.
Now the strange thing is that everything works fine for Gnome users.
Does anyone have some clues on what is going wrong with gnome
applications running in other environments? Why do they then need access
to / and can that be configured somewhere? Will it help to start any of
the additional programs that gnome starts on login (gconfd-2 or so)?

Re: The results of your email commands

Users in my company would love to go to Evolution, however the
calendering feature causes Evolution to hang when try to access a
calender on an Exchange server. I have searched (google) and posted
this problem to serval lists, no resolution ever came about.
My question is what version of Evolution does FC4 come with? I would
like to find out if this version addresses this issue. And if it
does, is there a way I can get a release candiate that I can do
testing with?
Thank you for your time and response.

local httpd server setup
by James A. Feister
Developing a web page that uses http and cgi.
have a full install of fc3.
Am trying to set up my box so that I may localy
develop the website in my /home/james/www/ folder with
all modifications done directly in that folder. I can
only test the cgi scripts if they are run on a server.
But to do that I would have to copy the files to my
/var/www/html dir everytime I updated something. How
can I set up a hostname like seaport that I would
type into my browser and bring up the site I am
working on in my /home/james/www/ dir.
Any insite would be helpfull.
Thank you,
James

winetools2.1.1 can't locate xdialog 2.1.2-1
by Duncan Lithgow
I'm having trouble installing a windows app - so I thought I'd start
by running winetools. It won't start - yum & smart pm can't find it
so I guess it's not there.
So, I've downloaded it and Xdialog again. I've reinstalled Xdialog and
upon trying to install winetools I get a message that it can't find
Xdialog! Any ideas why?
I can't find any reference to this on google or this list.

no desktop
by Simon
When I came onto the computer this morning I found that gnome-panel was
taking 99% cpu for no apparent reason. I rebooted and the system went
down and back up successfully. When I log in though, everything loads
apart from the desktop. It stays the default blue colour instead of
loading my background image, no icons are displayed, and I cant interact
with it by right clicking (nothing happens). Im a bit stumped really as
I cant find any error messages anywhere.

/proc/net/stats process hang/crash
by Ed Seiler
Hi,
Any time I do a ls /proc/net/stat on either of two Fedora Core 3 boxes
( one Intel, one AMD ) the process hangs. Actually the first time the
command is run it will core dump. Anytime after that the process hangs
and it can't be killed.
Likewise, a locate -u will first core dump then the second time hang.
Both machines are pretty much default new installations. On one, I did
a yum update and it installed lots of things but the problem
continues.
I just recently checked a server setup by someone else and it has
exactly the same problem but, at the same time, he has another server
that does not.
It starts right out of the box with a fresh install and it never goes away.
I have swapped memory to no avail.
The core dump does generate a message and it is included below.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Ed S
