Recommendations for laptop a/c management?
by Neil Bird
We're going to be using FC3 in the near future, and we have 'proper'
LDAP-driven networked accounts (auto-mounted to /home, etc.).
So. What happens when the laptop's at home & off-network? The only
solution I can see is the ugly one of having a sep. local a/c. and
trying to wangle permissions on files accordingly (and remembering to
copy across ~/.files).
There doesn't seem to be the equivalent of <sigh> Windoze's local
copy of the user 'profile' (i.e., home directory).
Surely I can't be the first person to want something akin to this,
but I've found *nothing* in Google or the various laptop Linux sites.
Linux laptop users seem to tend to use them stand-alone (as far as
logins are concerned).

Hey, if your machine's as crufty as mine, you might want to try
removing "acpi=force" if you have it enabled. Mine reckoned I had a
1999 BIOS date..
Good luck and nice to see someone else is using old hardware too :-)

Network Drive Mounting Issue
by Chris Graham
This may seem like a newbie question, but I'm new to FC3 and I have been
looking for hours through the man pages with no luck, but is there a
good way in the shell or GNOME to mount a network drive to the system?
The drive I need to access requires a logon and is running under a
Windows XP partition, although whether it's FAT32 or NTFS I'm not sure.
Thanks,
Chris

openldap-servers strange crash
by Herbert Gasiorowski
The ldap server crashes in a way that all requests are
accepted but never answered!
Thus all other host cannot be used any more, as user,
hosts and automounter lookups block the system
and the slave ldap servers will never be asked.
The last time I could start the master but again all
requests did not succeed. When I stop the master all works
well - using the slaves. After slapadd-ing the latest backup
the master works as expected.
Anyone has an idea?
(USING FC3 with latest updates - openldap-servers-2.2.13-2)

Multiple KDE applets on toolbar
by Bob Brennan
Is it possible to have 2 versions of an applet (KWeather in
particular) on the KDE toolbar?
In Gnome I can select Add-> and add as many as I want, in KDE the
applet is greyed out once one is active. I am hoping there is a text
file somewhere that I can duplicate the entry that launches the app,
but have no idea where to find it, other than in /home/me/kde* (?)

Re: mount: special device dev/hda2 does not exist
by THUFIR HAWAT
Thank you, Felipe. I believe I already made the directory, but I'll re-boot and double check on that and the "/". I'll do a man on mkdir, but does the -p matter?
Thanks,
Thufir

mount -t vfat /dev/hda2 /mnt/hda2
You're missing the slash in front of "dev/hda2".
Also, make sure "/mnt/hda2" already exists:
mkdir -p /mnt/hda2

OT - MYSQL Report Generator
by tonydm
Hi,
I know this is a bit OT, but this group seems to be well informed. I am
looking for a reporting program/generator that supports MYSQL. Any
recomendations would be greatly appreciated.
BTW: FC3 has been working like a kitten since install several months ago...
Thanks
