FC3 "INIT: Id 1 respawning too fast..." message on boot
by Jeff Camp
When my newly installed FC3 (2.6.9-1.667) system boots, everything looks
good and I get a login prompt. When I enter the user name it comes back
with the "INIT: Id 1 respawning too fast, disabled for 5 min". Afer a
minute or so it gives the same message with "Id 2, 3.."
Any suggestions where I should start?

cyrus-imapd - sieveusehomedir: 1
by Craig White
put the following line in /etc/imapd.conf
#sieveusehomedir: 1
and restarted cyrus-imapd and this didn't go over very well
Feb 1 00:16:08 linuxserver sieve[17242]: can't use home directorieses
Feb 1 00:16:37 linuxserver master[17145]: process 17253 exited, status
75
Feb 1 00:16:37 linuxserver master[17145]: service sieve pid 17253 in
BUSY state: terminated abnormally
OK - I'll byte - what's the trick? I'm finding that using sieve inside
the mystery that is cyrus is clumsy and was thinking that if I could
park the sieve files in home directories, things might be more
manageable.
I was thinking that this might be a clue...
Feb 1 00:14:06 linuxserver lmtpunix[17213]: IOERROR: not a sieve
bytecode file /home/craig/.sieve
but this came before the other
Any clues?

User Manager and useradd
by Tim Alberts
I am working on scripts to manage user accounts a little easier. In the
User Manager GUI app there is a field 'Full Name'. However, the CLI
command 'useradd' does not have a field for 'Full Name'. It does have a
'comment' field (The new user's password file comment field) as shown in
'man useradd'. Question, are these two the same field and if not, where
is the 'Full Name' data stored by User Manager and what exactly is the
comment field of the 'useradd' command?

problem with FC3 disk 3
by Langer, Christian
If I try to do an installation of FC3 with some extras that require disk
3, when I get to that point, I insert disk 3 and the message is "that is
not the right disk". This even though the checksum on disk 3 at the
beginning of the install was clean. Any thoughts on what might be going
wrong? Same thing happens when I am trying to install various rpms that
require disk 3.

RE: FC3, Apache, and Front Page
by Randy L. Justice
Thanks for all your advice... I see it can be done...
Many people asked "why FrontPage"... Well to make a long story short.. I
don't have a choice..
Thanks again...
All have been a great source of information...

How do they allow you to publish pages to their site? If by ftp, there are
a lot of tools that can manage that.
If by webdav, then at least Quanta+ works. Screem appears to work as well,
but I'm not as fond of the Screem interface. I don't know if any of the
WYSIWYG page editors work with webdav.
Speaking of WYSIWYG page editors, there are at least three that I know of.
NVU - see www.nvu.com
Mozilla Composer - see www.mozilla.org
OpenOffice Writer/Web - see www.openoffice.org
That said, I don't like any of them. In particular, the handling of
<div></div> is very poor. At best, you'll get absolutely positioned
divisions which is a bane for liquid designs.
Also, they generate at best transitional HTML (not strict or XHTML).
The end result is sloppy (possibly non-compliant) HTML that may not work the
same in all browsers.
I alternate between Bluefish and jEdit. Neither are WYSIWYG.
Just my opinion . . . .

Following release notes instructions, unable to get kernel src rpm
by Etanisla Lopez-Ortiz
Following the instructions at
http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/release-notes/fc3/x86/, I am still (STILL)
stuck on Step 1!
Running "up2date --get-source kernel" on a root command line gains:

An HTTP error occurred:

Now, I've tried this with different servers, even ftp'd into a few to see if I
could download the rpm manually. But all to no avail.
Could my yum/up2date settings be messed up? Open to suggestions!

Does any one recognise the origin of this error message.
by Konstam, Aaron
For a while we where getting errors of this form every minute or so
on a FC2 machine. Does anyone recognisr the origin of this error?
Set_rtc_mmss: can't update from 53 to 3
One more thing the 53 to 3 of the message changed to 54 to 4, etc
in some sort of sequence.
