Anyone Here running on x86-64 Hardware Yet
by Rhugga
We are ready to dump Sun like a cooked-off hand grenade and have this grandure idea of moving to
some of the AMD based Opteron 64-bit systems. Just curious if anyone is running this hardware yet?
I noticed HP is already shipping these systems. The price tags on these system is just too good to
be true. Based on a rough calculation, I can replace a $400k Sun Sparc III system with a pair of
$30k AMD systems and get roughly the same system bandwidth. (I'm talking Oracle RAC here) Not too
mention a significantly lower support cost and thus a much lower TCO in the long run. (well in the
short run too for that matter) Also note that my administrative overhead costs will be much less
for Linux as it is for Sun Sparc/Solaris.
We want to move our Oracle databases to the first supported release using the 2.6 kernel on the
AMD Opteron 850 series procs. We also want to move our Weblogic servers to the same platform as
well.
This is all in the next 18 months but I would love to here if anyone is trying this already.
Thx,
rhugga

courier-imap-3.0.7-1.9.i386.rpm --> the "9" in the package name
signalizes that The failed dependency for the libcom_err.so.3 confirms
that.
rpm -qpi courier-imap-3.0.7-1.9.i386.rpm --> will print you out some
basic information of the non installed package

kernel 2.6.7 and 2.6.6 dont work for me either...... cdrecord now
works since i edited the cdrecord.conf with the correct ATAPI info and
cdrecord -v -scanbus dev=ATAPI works but only in 2.6.8. All kernels I
boot show sg and scsi_mod in lsmod......

I am aware of the security issues,
so I have been using both xcdroast and kb3 as root.
And unfortunately, rebooting with a 2.6.7 kernel didn't fix my problem.

Re: MSI TV Tuner in Fedora
by Georgios Petasis
I think that 8606 is the card madel number from MSI. However, from a google
search
(I don't have this card), it seems that your card uses the Conexant CX23881
chipset for video capture,
TDA 5767 for audio and MT2050 as tuner. So, you have to load the proper
modules for all these chips :-)
(from http://pvrhw.goldfish.org/bttv/bttv-gallery.html:
chips: cx23881-27, tea5767 (40pol ==> tea5767HN), 74hct4052d,
em78p156elm,atmel24c02n, lm833, xtal 13.0, xtal 28.6, xtal 4.0
tuner: ??? probably MT2050
pcb: MicroStar 8606; 8606 Ver:1.2, N1996, D33008
connectors: CATV, FM, remote, audio out(green), Audio in(blue), AV-In
(yellow), S-In (4pol DIN)
onboard connector: internal audio out
country: D
rem:Master = with FM radio
from manual: "Global video standards support, including NTSC-M(J,
PAL-B/G/D/K/H/I
remote control: 8mm flat! Battery CR2025
You can try the following (as root):
modprobe tda5767
(I don't know if such a module exists though :-)
modprobe cx88xx
modprobe cx8800
or something similar.

spadmin in OpenOfice Removed in FC2, Why?
by Steve Goldman
Does any one know why the printer and font administration program,
spadmin, was removed from the FC2 version of the OOO RPM's?
Is there another way to add fonts and printers in OOO?

Installing an RHL9 compiled binary on FC1/2? - it won't work. Look for
one compiled for your OS.
