ieee80211
by Mike C
Can anyone tell me how to check which version of the ieee80211
subsystem is installed in a kernel ? Is there a siimple command to
find out for a running kernel ? What about another installed kernel
but not the running kernel?
I am updating a machine which uses the ipw3945 driver - and with the
new 2.6.17 kernel I don't know if this is still the old ieee80211
susbsystem or if this now includes 1.1.13 or 1.1.14 ?
I needieee80211 v 1.1.13 to run the ipw3845 driver.
Thanks
Mike

Still Can't Set Proper Screen Resolution
by David M Burgess
I still can't set the proper screen resolution with FC6 Test 1. This
bug was original identified way back in FC5 Test 1 and still hasn't been
addressed. It's gone through a number of incarnations in bugzilla and
is currently Bug 182070.
Anaconda properly detected my GeForce video card and NEC LCD 200VX
monitor, xorg.conf has the proper entries to go to 1600x1200 using the
NV driver but the screen resolution applet won't allow anything greater
than 1280x960.
This is even after applying all updates as of 1500 UTC 2006-06-24.
It's not an "up stream" problem as other distributions don't seem to
suffer from it - it seems to be Fedora specific.

The beep is back - some system hesitation - Redzone
by Jim Cornette
Besides some mouse hesitation, I noticed that the beep for the speaker
is activated. I downloaded mail and after the mail finished downloading,
I got a beep.
Also, I had hesitation with the system while typing this message.
Nothing shows for what I typed, then it all displays eventually.
Using top to display processes, gconftool-2 seemed to bog the system at
80 to 90+%.
As an earlier poster informed, dmesg displays incrementing addresses and
repeated information as posted below:

Suspending to RAM in addition to suspending to disk
by Yee Wei Law
Hi,
This is probably not an appropriate question to ask on this mailing list,
but I have always been wondering, why is there only a "Suspend" option in
FC's GNOME "Shutdown..." menu?
In contrast, Ubuntu provides two options: "Suspend to RAM" as well as
"Suspect to disk", which I personally think is a much desirable feature.

It's small enough, I guess turning it on isn't that big a deal.

mplayer skins
by Oldman
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I just updated mplayer in rawhide and FC5 and found that I can't change
to a different skin in gmplayer. the chooser comes up and lists only the
default skin. I checked the directory /usr/share/mplayer/Skin and find a
full complement of skins (right where mplayer-skins.rpm put them).
I've tried everything I can think of so I put a couple of the files in
$HOME/.mplayer/Skin and they work there. I'll BZ this at livna unless I
hear from someone who can tell me what a noob I am.

oprofile needs P6 style MSRs, it doesn't make sense to enable it on 586s.
The performance monitoring counters were introduced with the PPro for Intel
& athlon for AMD. The other vendors never implemented them (VIA still don't
to this day even in their 686 flavoured C3s).

system-config-services - dead python
by Jim Cornette
I have system-config-services-0.9.0-2 installed.
The below packages are not upgraded due to dependency errors.
ImageMagick.i386 (lvn.dep) 6.2.8.0-1 development
control-center.i386 1:2.15.3-3 development
libxklavier.i386 2.91-1 development
nfs-utils-lib.i386 1.0.8-5 development
When launching the program from the menu, no dice. I am asked for a
password, enter the password, get the shield icon, but s-c-display never
starts.
From gnome-terminal as root (su -), I get the below python error.
