failure to start installer properly in devel of 2006-06-27 (2138 kernel)
by G.Wolfe Woodbury
Just tried a test install of devel and it fails to find the network drivers
for my RTL-8139 card. Trying to do a network install from my local mirror.
The work1 testbed machine:
Celeron (Coppermine) @600MHz 256 MiB RAM
VIA Chipset std IDE disks (root on LVM)
RTL-8139 NIC Trident Cyberblade/i1

Single-boot on Mactel?
by Peter Hutnick
I'm dying to put Fedora on my Intel Mac Mini.
I read http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraOnMactel. Is it possible
to single boot FC6t1 on a Mac Mini? I don't want to run OS X, and it
seems silly to give up gigs of disk for nothing but a boot loader.
If so, what are the ins and outs of the install procedure? If not, is
this functionality planned for FC6t2 or the final version?
Thanks!

In your xorg.conf, comment out hoiz and vert settings for monitor, and
resolution options for device:
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "LCD Panel 1400x1050"
DisplaySize 370 300
# HorizSync 31.5 - 90.0
# VertRefresh 59.0 - 75.0
Option "dpms"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 16
# Modes "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
# Modes "1280x1024" "1152x864" "1024x768" "800x600"
"640x480"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
# Modes "1400x1050" "1280x960" "1280x800" "1280x1024"
"1152x864" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection
See the lines I commented out? if you do the same, X will detect your
monitor and your card and find the best resolution as provided by the
hardware.

XFCE4.4
by Paul Michael Reilly
One of the ways I would like to give back to Fedora is to help out
with Xfce, in particular by testing xfce4.4 in rawhide. As near as I
can tell the development rpms are still xfce4.2 based. Based on that,
it would appear to be more of a development effort than a testing
effort. Correct? And if so, can someone suggest a developer to work
with in getting xfce4.4 ready for FC6?
Thanks,

Recent kernels do not generate dm for initrd images
by Dwaine Garden
Has anyone noticed that the newest kernels are not generating the proper initrd imges.
The dm lines are missing on all the initrd images that get generated when you update with yum. The dmraid stuff stopped
getting added to the initrd images when the PAE kernels started coming out.
Also, when I try to generate a new initrd image for a PAE kernel, the script does not pick up the dm modules.

FC6 T1 installer problems
by glenn
I burnt the DVD for FC6 T1.
I used the media check of the installer and the DVD passed.
I use "linux text" as the install mode. This proceeded until as
expected until it went to format the disc. Then the install failed.
I retried the proceed 3 times with the same result each time.
I then attempted the default graphical install (UGH).
I selected all pkgs and 'custom now'. I select everything except the
language options (selected 11 out of 36 possibilities).
I selected activate eth0 at boot time. I specified the host name and
the host IP/mask. The installer warned I had not specified the gateway,
but did not offer a method to define the gateway.
When the install completed, I had not network connectivity.
===
I then restarted the install, and tried manual vs DHCP for initializing
the network. Only DHCP would define the gateway. While I would supply
the parms to the MANUAL mode, the install warned I had NO gateway
specified. This is a useless configuration for me as I always specify
the host name and IP/mask manually. Thus I will be waiting for FC6 T2
to see if there is anything useful in the install version.
