Re: xsane finds scanner only as root
by J M
I agree this is permissions, but I ran into this same thing using saned to
set up a networked scanner. I had to modify permissions accordingly. Some
devices, for whatever reason, are by default readable/writable only by root.
I think that regardless of his configuration he will have to modify the
permissions on the device.

In my case, as the OP's in the posts you cite, it was xorg updates
of 6/14 that caused the problem. I've tried reverting xorg-x11-drv-nv,
but then X fails to start.
xorg-x11-drv-nv-1.1.1-5
Geforce4-400
Samsung 191n LCD
If the OP's intention was the same as mine, it was only to inquire
of the sort "am I only one?". Seems we're not. I was goin to try a fresh
install of test-1 from CD's before persuing a BugZ.

xsane finds scanner only as root
by Gerry Tool
It seems like every new test release reasserts scanner problems that
have been solved before. My scanner works fine in FC5.
I have an Epson Perfection 4490 Photo scanner which is supported by the
epkowa iscan package, providing the epkowa.conf package that allows this
scanner to work with xsane.
After installing iscan-2.0.0-0.c2, both iscan and xsane work with my
scanner if I execute them as root. However, if I try to execute them as
a normal user, the scanner is not found.
Does anyone know the correct fix for this problem, or should I open a
new bug report?
Thanks.

Networked printer not working in FC6
by Thomas Taylor
I have a Brother HL-1440 printer running on a two-port print server (Netgear
PS-110). This has worked great under FC5, FC4, even winblows, but not under
FC6.
The server has IP address of 192.168.0.70 with the Brother laser on PS-Port_1
and an Epson Stylist Photo 2200 on PS-Port_2. This is my private network
consisting of five (5) computers, two (2) printers, and a tape backup. My
wife is the only user of the inkjet.
My problem is that I can't seem to get the print server set up under FC6. My
main computer is "linux2.home" with an IP of 192.16830.15. There is an 8
port switch from the gateway (192.168.0.1) connecting all the local stuff
together and to the cable modem.
What would be a working solution using "system-config-printer" under FC6?
Anyone out there have something similar?
TIA,
Tom

where are sane-find-scanner and scanimage?
by Gerry Tool
Both of these apps seem to be missing from fc6t1. They are essential to
troubleshooting scanner issues. Perhaps their capabilities are hidden
in some new package?
