I am the owner of package netty because it used to be required by Maven. Maven doesn't require it any longer, so I would prefer to give this package to someone else.
Currently netty is required by a few other projects (including hadoop, resteasy, thermostat, wildfly), so I would expect maintainers of these packages to help with maintenance of netty by becoming comaintainers or taking ownership.

Hi Mikolaj,
I'm not familiar enough with the guts of netty to take it on as owner, but I'd be happy to sign up as comaintainer. I've added myself via pkgdb. Had a quick look, thanks for keeping patches minimal!
cheers, jon

Thanks for becoming comaintainer.
There is an update to new major upstream version, which may be a good opportunity to get familiar with the package :)

Good idea. I won't get to it until next week, if that's OK. Do you mean to update to 4.0.10.Final?
cheers, jon

Yes, that's what I meant (bug #984551). This update has been waiting for quite long time, so there is no hurry. I didn't hear any requests for update either.
There are probably some API changes so we may need to be careful (I mean checking if dependant packages work after update to 4.x).

I've had some priority things to work on so it turns out I won't start on this in earnest until a couple weeks into November, probably. Still should be doable in F21 cycle though.
What I have done is had a quick look it is almost certain packages will need to be ported. Will send separate email with details.
cheers, jon

Signed up for co-maintainership too.
