JRE not recognised in eclipse IDE
by Yup Yup
Hi,
I installed eclipse-platform-3.5.2-2.fc13.x86_64 on Fedora 13.
Java has been installed on the system.
ca1@localhost ~]$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_18"
......
But, Java runtime is not recognised in the Eclipse IDE.
Under Menu....... Window>Preferences there are no installed JREs options.
Also, no Java project, class options in the menu is available.

maven plugins
by Orion Poplawski
Any reason we don't have maven2 or something require things like:
maven-compiler-plugin
maven-install-plugin
maven-jar-plugin
maven-javadoc-plugin
maven-release-plugin
maven-resources-plugin
maven-surefire-plugin
since every maven project I've built seems to require them?

Java SIG meeting minutes from September 21st
by Stanislav Ochotnicky
Meeting minutes from our second meeting. I reordered our wiki a bit to
accomodate future meeting minutes and agendas (thanks to KDE SIG for
template :-) )
I would like to know how many people wanted to attend but couldn't
because of time. There are about 2x as many people written on our SIG
page than attended our first two meetings, so if something is keeping
you from coming: Speak up! We don't bite.
Our next meeting wiki page:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Meeting:Java_SIG_2010-10-05
Use it to add agenda you'd like to discuss (if you add something, attend
the meeting though). Also please try to add youself to the list of
people attending.

Help needed - errors while building rpm from srpm
by Edmon Begoli
Hi,
I used commons-codec as well as previous version of the htmlunit to
create a new .spec file.
I did SRPM build on FC13.
Here are the issues I encountered:
1. My package POM file requires maven-release-plugin. On F13 I could
not find any maven plugin that has to do with
maven and release (sudo yum search maven | grep release)
2. When I build the srpm (rpmbuild -bs --clean htmlunit.spec) I get
srpm built but when I try to build rpm or to install rpm
I get this:
$ rpmbuild --ba --clean SPECS/htmlunit.spec
Executing(%prep): /bin/sh -e /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.OqRY17
+ umask 022
+ cd /home/edmon/rpmbuild/BUILD
+ cd /home/edmon/rpmbuild/BUILD
+ rm -rf htmlunit-2.7
+ /usr/bin/gzip -dc /home/edmon/rpmbuild/SOURCES/htmlunit-2.7-1.tar.gz
+ /bin/tar -xf -
+ STATUS=0
+ '[' 0 -ne 0 ']'
+ cd htmlunit-2.7
+ /bin/chmod -Rf a+rX,u+w,g-w,o-w .
+ exit 0
Executing(%build): /bin/sh -e /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.3IIwbQ
+ umask 022
+ cd /home/edmon/rpmbuild/BUILD
+ cd htmlunit-2.7
++ pwd
+ export MAVEN_REPO_LOCAL=/home/edmon/rpmbuild/BUILD/htmlunit-2.7/.m2/repository
+ MAVEN_REPO_LOCAL=/home/edmon/rpmbuild/BUILD/htmlunit-2.7/.m2/repository
+ mkdir -p /home/edmon/rpmbuild/BUILD/htmlunit-2.7/.m2/repository
+ mvn-jpp -Dmaven.repo.local=/home/edmon/rpmbuild/BUILD/htmlunit-2.7/.m2/repository
install javadoc:javadoc
/usr/lib/jvm/java
/usr/share/maven2/bin/mvn: line 157: /usr/lib/jvm/java/bin/java: Success
error: Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.3IIwbQ (%build)
RPM build errors:
Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.3IIwbQ (%build)
My most recent srpm and spec files are on:
http://ebegoli.fedorapeople.org/htmlunit-2.7-1.src.rpm
http://ebegoli.fedorapeople.org/htmlunit.spec
If you could, would you please take a look at what I may be doing
wrong (or if the absence of maven-release-plugin may
be an issue).
Thank you in advance,
Edmon

ClassNotFoundException in maven-javadoc-plugin
by Mat Booth
Hi all,
One of my Fedora 14 FTBFS bugs is caused by this error that occurs
whilst maven is building the javadocs:
[INFO] Internal error in the plugin manager executing goal
'org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-javadoc-plugin:2.7:javadoc': Unable to
load the mojo 'org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-javadoc-plugin:2.7:javadoc'
in the plugin 'org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-javadoc-plugin'. A
required class is missing:
org/apache/maven/shared/invoker/MavenInvocationException
org.apache.maven.shared.invoker.MavenInvocationException
Is maven-javadoc-plugin missing a dependency?
Regards,
Mat

Looking for small .spec example for srpm that uses maven2
by Edmon Begoli
I am learning to develop Java source packages for F13/14 that are using Maven 2.
Is there an example of a .spec file that anyone could recommend as
well as the tutorial how
to develop a spec file for SRPM for small Java package that uses Maven 2?
On %build step I am getting non-descriptive errors that may simple be
result of some
beginners error with Java+rpmbuild but I would like to get some good
learning example
and a tutorial so that I can continue make progress and contribute packages.
Otherwise, I may remain stuck.
Thanks.

Oct 8th - Etherpad FAD at Olin College! (Outside Boston, MA)
by Colin Zwiebel
[image: ep_fad_poster_x500.png]
Oct 8th starting 5pm - Oct 9th
We're holding a Hackathon / Fedora Activity Day at Olin College in Needham,
MA!
Etherpad is open source software for teams to type together on the same
document.
Join a team of students, alumni, and Fedora Linux hackers as we improve
Etherpad for ourselves and the world!
Cut to the chase: *http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Etherpad_FAD*
== What is EtherPad? ==
Etherpad is pretty much the pinnacle of online, collaborative text editing.
If you're not familiar with EtherPad, take a look at this
video<http://www.viddler.com/explore/aaroniba/videos/1/>
.
== Backstory ==
EtherPad was acquired by Google in 2008 and the code was open-sourced
(yay!). Buuut the EtherPad code-base isn't exactly in a packageable state,
as demonstrated by SDZ, here <https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Etherpad>. (SDZ
is an Olin student!)
Thus we plan to:
* Repackage EtherPad in a consistent, portable way, more best-practice form
* Create compliant, Fedora packages for EtherPad
* Setup EtherPad instance on Fedora Infrastructure (infrastructure managers,
sorry, quietly stop choking and shoot me an email so I can explain Fud +
EtherPad = awesome and discuss how to go about that)
* Teach non-Propeller-heads about OSS development and the technologies used
== When? ==
** *Friday, October 8th - Saturday, October 9th* **
(and maybe early Sunday if we get some of the no-sleep crowd).
Dinner on Friday. Dinner and lunch Saturday.
Can attend in person? Remotely join us! See the
wiki<https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Etherpad_FAD#I.27m_far_away_.2F_can.27t_ph...>
.
== Us ? ==
Andy, Sebastian and I are Olin College students and long-time linux users,
and total EtherPad fanboy. We would love to give back to all three of these
communities and help people get involved in open source software.
Finally, there is generally just a lot of cool technical stuff inside
EtherPad? Server-side-JS? Scala? Comet? Collaborative diffing? Web-service
architecture? Your totally welcome to come and geek out on these topics, and
maybe learn a thing or two about how EtherPad works.
Check us out on the wiki and twitter:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Etherpad_FAD
http://twitter.com/olinetherpadfad
Cheers,
Colin, Sebastian, Andy
P.S. You've probably never heard of Olin College, but you should
totally look at the crazy higher-ed experiment we're running:
