Tripwire in Extras
by MJang
Folks,
I see Tripwire has been removed from FC5 extras, but per
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Extras/FC5Status , it's probably going to
get a new maintainer soon. Will it be available in FC5 Extras after it
gets the new maintainer, or will it go someplace else like
Extras-Development?
I've tried posting this to the Extras list, with no response. That list
seems dedicated to bug discussions, so I'm not surprised that my
question there was ignored.
Thanks,
Mike

updating stage2.img
by Aggarwal, VikasX
Hi,
I am trying to insert a utility into stage2.img for FC5-test3,
this utility will be run by slightly modified anaconda installer
(version 10.12.14).
So far I could not get my utility inside stage2.img.
1) I tried it doing manually but "buildinstall' will
replace it.
2) If I try to update stage2.img manually after running
buildinstalll, then NFS boot from boot.iso complains that install-tree
does'nt match. Timestamp changed ?
3) Adding my utility in upd-instroot script should make it
available in stage2.img, I tried but add to my frustration its not
there when I boot from install disk1.
Please provide me with the procedure for building the custom
distro for fc5, I need to insert a tool into stage2.img and installer
will run that utility.
Appreciate your help in this
Thanks

Vim-7 Preview
by Karsten Hopp
Hello,
I've prepared vim-7 prerelease packages, they are available from http://people.redhat.com/karsten/
Most prominent new features are gvim with windows in multiple tab pages (:help tabpage),
spell checking (:help spell) and omni-completion (:help new-omni-completion).
A description of the new features of vim-7 is available with :help version7
Please report any problems in bugzilla and make sure to mention the package version
Have fun...

how do I integrate patches and get updated rpms to users
by Michael Christie
Hi, sorry of this is the wrong list. Maybe it should go to the maintiner
list but I am not yet on that.
I packaged the iscsi-initiator-utils rpm and have some fixes I need to
integrate. I think I know how to update cvs and the spec file and that
stuff from this doc
http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/developers-guide/
But how does the update get propagated to the user so when they do a yum
command they get the newest version? Do I have to send mail to someone
or another list or does someone watch the cvs commits or is there some
magic in the build system?
And one other question about updating packages. Should I assume someone
will be running the current kernel? If a new kernel is released and it
lets say a sysfs file is removed or has some new behavior or the netlink
interface has changed, should I build in the userspace application (in
this case iscsid and iscsiadm) the ability to support all Fedora kernels
or just the current one?
Thanks

pilot-link.org: Anonymous CVS Removed indefinitely
by Gilboa Davara
I'm just posting this, so -please- don't shoot the messenger:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Submitted by desrod on Mon, 03/27/2006 - 01:50.
Since the Fedora Linux distribution (always problems with Fedora, sigh)
has decided to ignore the FAT GLARING WARNING about NOT packaging up
pilot-link 0.12.x in their releases, I’ve taken anonymous CVS down
indefinitely, and hourly snapshots will also be removed.
Those who wish to use the code, will have to wait until official
releases are made.
Sorry, but this has happened way too often with Fedora (and previously
with the Red Hat packagers) to ignore time and time again. Their
ignorance has increased our maintenance headaches, and I’m frankly tired
of dealing with the support issues.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Problem is: pilot-link AND gnome-pilot are semi-broken on FC4 and
completely broken on FC5. Now that CVS is shut, until pilot-link 0.12 is
released (and there's not tables for that) there's little chance that
FC5 will be fixed.
My question is:
Will it be possible to roll-back all patches and go back to 0.11?
Please?
Pretty please?

GCC ADA compiler driver failure for recent Fedora Core kernels
by Joachim Frieben
I have a problem with both (current, i.e. fully updated updated) FC5 *and*
FC6/rawhide: I install the system from scratch. All volumes get formatted,
no additional or customized dot files, one stock test user account. My
default shell is "csh" but "bash" makes no difference. My local ".rpmmacros"
file reads:
%_usrsrc /home/test/build
%_tmppath /home/test/build/var/tmp
and the corresponding directory tree has been created in test's home
directory in order to avoid building the package as "root".
Result after installing FC5 w/o any updates:
"checking for gnatbind... gnatbind
checking whether compiler driver understands Ada... yes"
After fully updating the system as of 04/04/06 or [updating to/installing]
FC6/rawhide from scratch and booting the system again, the Ada driver stops
working (!):
"checking for gnatbind... gnatbind
checking whether compiler driver understands Ada... no"
In the first case, the system boots "kernel-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5", in the
second case "kernel-2.6.16-1.2080_FC5" or FC6 rawhide kernel respectively.
After rebooting the [updated/rawhide] system again and booting
"kernel-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5", case #1 occurs, thus no error message.
Rebooting the system several times confirms that for the original FC5
kernel, the configure script passes successfully when checking Ada support,
whereas for update kernel and current FC6/rawhide kernels, the script fails.
I had posted a bug report at:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=187687
It had been closed as "WORKSFORME" but I had reopened it after finding out
that the issue actually depends on the kernel version (!) as described above.
Any similar observations? Any clues?
