Actually was getting this error when I had the 'wrong' HP driver in use,
but still getting it. Google search is not helping all that much on
this error. Seems something I still need to configure.

I was just figuring this out. I am looking at the cups web interface
for my notebook where I am able also have the printer. The 'joy' of a
minimal server install is to figure out what you have to add to get it
useful! I installed hplip which also installed hpijs.
Now for the hp8600 I have a choice of hpijs or hpcups. My notebook is
using hpcups. What is the difference?
