Your guess is right; I use "dnf" to update packages.
When from now on I start using PackageKit as the tool to update the
packages, will that eventually clean up my /var/cache/PackageKit?

Supplemental to my (31 Oct) above posting (which doesn't appear to have
made it through to the list:
By "different sockets" above, I mean try using the USB sockets directly
on the motherboard (through the back panel), rather than using USB
sockets on the front of the box (which may connect via a thin flylead
through the cabinet).
I'd be inclined to make sure that any drive using a Y-lead, always has
both of the computer-end USB plugs connected to the same host (i.e. two
adjacent USB ports), rather than spread between different hosts. Some
of those Y-leads simply join the +5 volt supply lines together without
any isolation between the two of them. That's the kind of thing that
can upset some electronics.
A simple solution can be to use an external powered hub, especially if
you suspect that your computer doesn't have enough spare power supply
capacity for powering yet another device. Even though standard advice
is to connect drives directly to the computer, so that data speed can be
as fast as possible.

gpg-agent is not available in this session
by Gour
Hello,
I’m running Fedora f25-beta and have problem that I’ve to repeatedly
enter my gpg password whenever I e.g. commit with Fossil (DVCS).
gpg-agent.contains the following:
pinentry-program /usr/bin/pinentry-gtk
#allow-emacs-pinentry
#no-grab
default-cache-ttl 86400
allow-loopback-pinentry
and I’ve installed both pinentry-{gtk,gnome3}, but none is launched.
gpg-agent is now running as:
[gour@atmarama ~]$ ps ax | grep gpg-agent
2521 ? Ss 0:01 gpg-agent --homedir /home/gour/.gnupg --use-standard-socket --daemon
8573 ? Ss 0:00 gpg-agent --homedir \
/var/cache/PackageKit/25/metadata/fedora-cisco-openh264.tmp/gpgdir --use-standard-socket --daemon
although previously only the first process was present.
Moreover, I do not see the difference between Xorg and Wayland sessions…
I also see (in Seahorse) that Gnome2 Key Storage remains locked after
(non-automatic) login.
Any hint what’s wrong or how to get working gpg-agent as it is the case
with ssh-agent?
Sincerely,
Gour

devops/clusterSSH - (offtopic)
by bruce
Hey!
--This is offtopic from fed --
Thanks to all who've commented on the SSH/screen issue! Think I got
that part resolved.
Now, in order to use the ipAddresses that have been generated for the
droplets, need to get opinions/thoughts on apps to use to handle
connecting to the different numbers of droplets/instances for the
project.
The following items are a kind of rough overview of what we're
thinking needs to be done.
We're looking at clusterSSH (even though it appears to need to be
built from source!). Other thoughts/opinions on apps that might
suffice would be good.
Any tool we use, will need to initially handle ~50 droplets/instances,
and scale to ~500-1000
The tool should:
- be able to fire up group(s) of servers based on ipAddress (type of
droplet -fetch/parse/etc..)
-be able to generate cmd to single/multiple
-be able to display either single/group of terms based on ipAddress
(single/group)
-be able to group the term(ipAddress) -- single term/multiple term in
the group(s)
-be able to switch between the groups, which in turn display the terms
for the group
The use case...
-the crawler spins up a number of droplets/instances
-the crawler generates the required ipAddresses and "groups" the
ipAddresses, based on fetch/parse use
-All the "instances' are generated/cloned to have the required apps on
the server in order to be fetch or parse - there's no need to
upload/scp files to the remote instances
Tool Requirements:
-Nice if the termManagerApp is able to use config/xternal files to
handle the ipAddresses to create groups as required
-Nice if the termManagerApp is able to display terms in a given group
-App has to handle external pub/priv key, all terms (cloned) have the same key
-
The termManagerApp needs to be able to display terms from the selected group
TermManagerApp needs to be able to send same command to all terms in
the displayed group
TermManagerApp needs to be able to select a given term, and insert
cmds to that term only
Terms being displayed, should display "realtime" window update
Nice if termManagerApp can display 20-50 terms simultaneously
Basically, the tool/app will be used to allow the project to manage
the multiple instances/VMs that are being run for the crawl.
Project use functions requires:
-Running commands on remote servers
-Checking on the progress of the remote processes via the screen function
-Starting up/Shutting Down remote servers as needed
-TBD..
Thanks for any/all comments/thoughts!!

Real Cause of the Missing Folder Pane in Thunderbird for Linux and Its
Working Fix and Solution
by Turritopsis Dohrnii Teo
Dear Linux Users Worldwide,
The real cause of the missing folder pane/folder pane not showing up in Thunderbird email clients for Linux operating systems is extensive and widespread corruption of the *.msf mail summary files or mail index files. If your *.msf mail summary files or mail index files are badly corrupted, the traditional usual recommended and oft-quoted solution of deleting the folderTree.json and session.json files in your mail profile(s) and later rebuilding them will not work, for sure. Even if you try this solution for 1 trillion times, it will still not work. This is because the files which are actually corrupted are NOT the folderTree.json and session.json files. The real files which are corrupted are your .msf mail summary files!!!
I have been repeatedly and stubbornly trying the traditional usual recommended and oft-quoted solution of deleting the folderTree.json and session.json files and later rebuilding them, for a few years, but it did not work out for me at all. Now, today, 15 November 2016 Tuesday, Singapore Time, I have actually solved the problem of the missing folder pane/folder pane not showing up in Thunderbird email clients for Linux, which has plagued me for a few years.
Please refer to the following link/URL for my solution to the problem:
http://forums.edmw.xyz/index.php?threads/is-there-a-cure-for-stupidity-re...
An archive (ZIP file 19.7 MB) of the above forum thread is available at the following Google Drive Cloud link:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B96mKCooAF0naXJNNnpYUERncUk/view?usp=sha...
The original reference resource is here:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Compacting_folders
Concisely, the solution towards fixing the problem is to:
1) Exit or close Thunderbird
2) Go to your email profile, e.g. /home/user/.thunderbird/<profile-name>
3) Rename the *.msf files to *.msf.bak
4) Start Thunderbird
5) Create a new folder, e.g. "Backup 15 Nov 2016"
6) Move all your email messages from the INBOX folder to "Backup 15 Nov 2016"
7) Check and ensure that all your email messages from INBOX are actually in your new folder
8) Exit and restart Thunderbird again
9) You should be able to start receiving email messages into your Inbox all over again
For a few years, Thunderbird for Linux had fixed me. Now, I have fixed Thunderbird for Linux.
Thank you very much for reading.

ssh/screen question - thread
by bruce
Hey Ladies/Gents.
This follows the other thread i posted over the last few weeks on
devOPS stuff for managing groups of remote droplets/vms.
My approach for now to implement clusterSSH as well as screen to be
able to auto gen the remote droplets, and to be able to ssh into them
to view status, as well as to track progress, and run remote processes
with the screen env.
I'm currently testing the screen function to get more familiar with
it, and running into an issue.
I generate a basic test screen session, with a name. This session is there.
screen -ls
shows the session and i can pop another term, and ssh into the box,,
and attach to the screen session
screen -r 'testname' gets into the session.
However, when I attempt to do a simple test, to run a remote cmd
within the remote ssh/screen env, I run into issues. I get an error in
that the ssh/screen/cmd needs a terminal
-----Must be connected to a terminal.
Ive tested/tried a few different iterations of the ssh/screen/ls to
try to get this to work.
//--this actually generates the screen sesstion on the remote box, no issues
ssh crawl_user(a)192.81.214.49 "screen -d -m -S 'testname' "
//--which of these (or something else) to remotely run ls in the
ssh/screen session??
--which of these??
ssh crawl_user(a)192.81.214.49 'screen -m -d -r "testname" "ls" '
ssh crawl_user(a)192.81.214.49 'screen -r "testname" "ls" '
ssh -t crawl_user(a)192.81.214.49 'screen -r "testname" "nhup ls &" '
--- this almost seems to work, but the process hangs, leaving the
user in the remote term, in other words, it doesn't run, and return to
the calling term
I've been looking at the net/goog/SO/etc.. but no real insight yet..
Thoughts/comments appreciated...
Thanks

Ralink USB RT5370 Wireless Adapter on F21
by Gary Stainburn
Hi all,
I've plugged the above USB WIFI dongle into an aging F21 server to make it
into an AirPrint server but can't get it working.
I chose this dongle, purchased from The Pi Hut [1] because I have used a
number of them in Raspberry Pi's as well as my Centos 7 laptop (The built in
one doesn't work)
My problem is that I cannot get it to work on my server. The install on
Jessie on the Pi's is a doddle, and on Centos it just worked. However I can't
seem to get it working on the F21 box. I have done the usual checks, and
Google but I can't find out what to do. LSUSB [2] sees the device, but I
don't get anything in ifconfig. lsmod seems to have the correct modules
listed [3].
Any help would be appreciated.
Gary
