building .rpm for a GO app
by arnaud gaboury
I am writing a .spec file for an app writen in GO. I am a litle confused
how to indicate revision and release, following this wiki[0].
The app is in a git repo. When cloning and cd the dir app, I run this
command:
$ git describe --long | sed 's/^v//;s/\([^-]*-g\)/r\1/;s/-/.
This gives me for example : 3.4.0.r246.g428444d
Is the global revision is 428444d, (which is in fact the number of the last
commit) OR r246.g428444d ?
Version is 3.4.0
Then, how can I indicate this in my spec file? Of course, I don't know
version + revision before I clone.
Thank you for help

gnome-terminal --display-factory
by Michael B Allen
I have been using this external editor command for the Sylpheed mailer:
gnome-terminal --disable-factory -x vim '%s'
This allows launching a terminal with vi so that I can capture shell
command output, edit things with vi and insert files and such. This is
a very powerful and important feature.
However after installing F24, this no longer works. The
--disable-factory option is no longer supported. It launches but after
returning control to Sylpheed, the content is lost. Nothing is
inserted into the message. I can only assume this has something to do
with --disable-factory.
Does anyone have a recommended work-around?
I know gnome-terminal is "special" so perhaps there is another
terminal for Fedora?
What is the most popular terminal other than gnome-terminal?
I pretty much only use Linux for the shell and vi. I have about 10
terminals on 5 workspaces going concurrently. So I'm hoping hard that
there are still decent terminals around.

After fedup F23 -> F24 no more left-handed mouse
by Mark
Hi
I just upgraded my desktop from F23 to F24 via fedup and after that the
setting to have the right mouse button as the primary one has no
effect. That is I go to All Settings -> Mouse & Touchpad and select
Right as the primary button. But it has no effect at all. Even when I
go to Test Your Settings it still reports that the right button is the
secondary one.
Is there some config file that I could tweak to set this?

Problem with keyboard shortcuts and layouts
by Jeandet Alexis
Hi all,
I have a laptop with a French (azerty) layout and an USB Dvorak(US)
keyboard(a TypeMatrix 2030).
So I added my dvorak keyboard in the gnome -settings input sources
menu.
I can easily switch between keyboards with Super+Space but shortcuts
doesn't work with my dvorak keyboard.
It looks like the input source switch doesn't apply for shortcuts.
Example:
My default layout is azerty.
-I switch to Dvorak with Super+Space.
-Typing works correctly on my Dvorak keyboard.
-I try Ctrl+S to save a file on Gedit it comments out current line like
I if typed Ctrl+m
-Without switching back to azerty I type Ctrl+s on my azerty keyboard
and it saves the document.
I have this problem with most apps.
Did I miss something? Any hints?
Best regards,
Alexis.

Bonjour,
vlc complains that it cannot find the libvdpau_nouveau.so file.
Where can I find this file for fedora 24?
Thank you.

fedpkg: build error No build ID
by arnaud gaboury
I am writing a spec file to build an app.
The build failed with this error:
*** ERROR: No build ID note found in
/home/makerpm/rpmbuild/BUILDROOT/mattermost-3.4-1.fc24.x86_64/usr/share/webapps/mattermost/bin/platform
Googling it, I found a few "tricks" which I tried but don't work:
- Adding "LDFLAGS+=--build-id"
- adding %global _missing_build_ids_terminate_build 0
What can I do to solve this issue ?
Note: the application is written in Go.
Thank you for help.

/usr/lib & /usr/lib64 & %{_libdir} in .spec files
by arnaud gaboury
Below is part of my .spec file:
--------------------------------------------------
%install
install -Dm644 mattermost.service
%{buildroot}/usr/lib/systemd/system/mattermost.service
install -Dm644 mattermost-user.conf
%{buildroot}/usr/lib/sysusers.d/mattermost.conf
%files
%{_libdir}/systemd/system/mattermost.conf
%{_libdir}/sysusers.d/mattermost.conf
----------------------------------------------
which throw two errors when building:
error: File not found:
/home/makerpm/rpmbuild/BUILDROOT/mattermost-3.4-1.fc24.x86_64/usr/lib64/systemd/system/mattermost.conf
error: File not found:
/home/makerpm/rpmbuild/BUILDROOT/mattermost-3.4-1.fc24.x86_64/usr/lib64/sysusers.d/mattermost.conf
I understand I installed these two files in /usr/lib/ (which is what I
want), as said by the below output:
----------------------------------------------------------
+ install -Dm644 mattermost.service
/home/makerpm/rpmbuild/BUILDROOT/mattermost-3.4-1.fc24.x86_64/usr/lib/systemd/system/mattermost.service
+ install -Dm644 mattermost-user.conf
/home/makerpm/rpmbuild/BUILDROOT/mattermost-3.4-1.fc24.x86_64/usr/lib/sysusers.d/mattermost.conf
----------------------------------------------------------
BUT Fedora is looking for them in /usr/lib64, right ?
So %{_libdir} seems to point to /usr/lib64 rather than to /usr/lib as
mentioned in wiki[0].
Am I right? Shall I then write this in %files ? :
/usr/lib/systemd/system/mattermost.conf
/usr/lib/sysusers.d/mattermost.conf
Thank you for help.

I have resolved the issue. The machine came with Windows 7 which uses
BIOS (aka Legacy Mode) and not UEFI so I don't even have a UEFI boot
partition. But to boot Fedora Live from USB, I had to switch from
Legacy Mode to UEFI in system setup (F12 at the Dell logo when
booting). Changing this *back* to Legacy Mode after the installation
now loads the grub screen and I can get into the hard disk
installation.

starting remote firefox via SSH
by bruce
Hi.
This is a "continuation" of the issue of starting firefox for a diff
user on a box.
If one logs into (SSH) into a remote box, and wants to start firefox
on the remote machine, such that all firefox operations occur on the
remote machine..
Different sites suggest setting the DISPLAY var, as well as xauth,
etc.. none of which seem to work.
The local/remote are both centos/fed.
The goal:
To be able to SSH into a remote box, and run a py script that
initiates a py/selenium binding/process to use firefox.
-This requires that the remote box be able to start/run firefox
for the user that the SSH session was started as/under.
The SSH/Firefox issue:
-How to SSH into the box, and start firefox?
(Already set up the keys, to allow ssh into the box vai ssh 192.168.1.4)
Tried:
ssh 192.168.1.4
foo@box1# DISPLAY=0: firefox
---ERROR: cannot open display: 0:
foo@box1# export DISPLAY=0:
foo@box1# firefox
---No protocol specified
---ERROR: cannot open display: 0:
This has to be simple!
Any thoughts??

Emacs24 at f24/f25
by Gour
Hello,
after experiencing some problem between Emacs-25 and org-mode (org’s
ELPA), I had to downgrade to Emacs24(.5.1) on my Debian Sid machine.
Since I’m considering to migrate fully to Fedora I wonder if one can use
Emacs24 on newly installed f24 and/or f25-beta?
I have f25-beta installed on my netbook, but it seems only Emacs25 is
available?
Any hint?
Sincerely,
Gour
