F20 - broken ethernet setup in NetworkManager?
by Robert Moskowitz
Continuing saga.
I have studied up on the nmcli commands. If I do:
nmcli dev show p6p1
I see that:
DHCP.OPTION[9]: domain_name = htt-consult.com
DHCP.OPTION[23]: domain_name_servers = 192.168.224.2
But /etc/resolv.conf, which according to the comment is Generated by
NetworkManager has only commented lines.
I rebooted. No change in /etc/resolv.conf
I mv /etc/resolv.conf elsewhere and rebooted. No /etc/resolv.conf
Now I have the WiFi radio off. I turn it on, and it connects to my AP
where the DHCP there creates an /etc/resolv.conf. I turn the radio off,
and the /etc/resolv.conf goes back to the empty /etc/resolv.conf (or
rather only comment lines).
The only thing I can see different between the
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-Wired_Connection_1 and the WiFi one
is that on the ethernet, PEERDNS=no and I can't find where this is set.
What else should I try?

Pan Zbyszek thanks for the effort.
Given that only you answering this contact seems as pro forma,

Unwanted screen lock
by Sam Varshavchik
I installed the F21 XFCE spin. When the laptop wakes up after a suspend, the
screen is locked, with a password prompt.
I've disabled the option to lock the screen both in the XFCE Power Manager,
and in screensaver settings, but the display is still locked. Anyone has any
idea why the screen is still locked?

Who is this "we"? :)
I also think, at least I hope, but what is the real agenda, not speculation?

question about cd text
by JD
I have some mp3 files which seem to have built-in cd-text info about the
track and the album.
When I transcode them to wav and I play the wav file using ffplay or
mplayer, the cd-text
info is also displayed, just like playing the mp3 file.
So, if I create an iso of the directory containing the wav files,
I mount the iso file via the loop device, and play the files listed
in the mount point, the cd-text is no longer there.
How do I force the preservation of cd-text when creating the iso?

Replacement for rc.local
by Alex
Hi,
I have a set of commands that I need to run after my fedora21 desktop
has completed booting. Should I just create a whole sysv init script in
/etc/rc.d/init.d, or is there a more updated way using systemd without
having to create a whole service around it?
The commands I want to run are:
for i in /sys/bus/usb/devices/*/power/autosuspend; do echo 2 > $i; done
I'd like to disable the power management for USB devices, as once the
desktop goes into suspend, the USB keyboard/mouse won't wake it up. The
desktop is also blanked when accessing it through tigervnc.
root doesn't always login, or I would otherwise just put it in the bashrc.
These commands seem to fix it.
Thanks,
Alex

open source - drawing/online app
by bruce
Hey guys.
I know, this has nothing to do directly with Fed. However, I'm looking
for a good/free online app that can be used to do network diagrams.
I was really into draw.io, until it appears that I can't copy a item
from one document to another within the browser. IE, if I create a
block in tab1 in the browser, and do a select/copy I can't then do a
paste of the copied item to the new tab/doc.
draw.io is good, as you can create as many/complex diagrams as you
want, and save them to the cloud/local. If I could solve this minor
issue.. I'd be good to go!
If anyone has a good/free online soln, feel free to let me know!! (Or,
if you know how to solve the issue I mentioned. Couldn't find anything
via searching, that worked for me. -- btw, I tried
Firefox/Safari/Chrome with no luck)
Thanks

Virtual CD/DVD burner for Fedora
by JD
googled for a virtual cd/dvd burner but all I could find
was cdemu, which is not a burner but a rom.
Any info on a virtual cd/dvd burner would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone gotten either ntp or chrony working when masquerading is enabled
by Sam Varshavchik
As far as I can determine, the way that firewalld sets up masquerading
completely breaks both ntpd and chrony.
Both servers appears to start, but their corresponding client-side tools,
ntpdc or chronyc, cannot talk to them. strace shows that UDP packets to
127.0.0.1 have their source IP address rewritten to the public interface,
and the server's response is lost.
This bug with firewalld's masquerading rules was reported back in October,
as bug 1152472.
If anyone managed to get either ntpd or chrony fully functional on a server
that has firewalld's masquerading enabled, I'd love to know how you did that.
