Perl programming related question.
by Lázaro Morales
Hello folks,
This question is a bit off-topic but the Fedora Community is awesome. This is the question, How can I from this string:
my $url = "http://somesite.org/somefile.zip"; # Example URL
obtain only this sub-string:
my $file = "somefile.zip";
Thanks very much,
Lázaro.

You are right about me using Win2000. I'm the only
one I know who still uses it and it is still working
very good for me. Hard to believe isn't it?
My main machine, which runs Win2000, was bought new in
2006. If I had bought it 6 months later Win2000 would
not install on it.
The Linux went on a 6 core AMD 64 machine I had built last
weekend. Now I have Win7 on that machine.
I think some people here are taking this post of mine out-
of-context. My intent was to record my experience for myself
and for anybody who cares to see it on this list. That is
all. No slams intended.
I will almost surely be moving to Linux someday, but I
suspect it may still be years away.

pptp plugin to network manager.
by Erik P. Olsen
In order to make a VPN connection using pptp I need a plugin for NM. Ubuntu has
a package network-manager-pptp but I can't find a similar package for Fedora 16.
I wonder if it al all exists. What can I do to make such connection?

criminal use of linux
by Skunk Worx
Uh oh...
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/07/25/microsoft_patent_deal_amdocs/
"Microsoft has claimed since 2007 that more than 235 of its patents are
violated by the open source operating system Linux, while critics claim
Redmond has a cynical eye on the project as another source of revenue."
Between the "Android Tax" and this, indemnification licensing appears to
be the only way to protect linux users from themselves.
Oracle Linux Network : $119 per system, per year.
RedHat Desktop : $49 per system, per year (minimum).
RedHat Server : $349 per system, per year (minimum).

Problem with dual monitor and kernel 3.5
by Amitakhya Phukan
Hi all!
After a update to kernel 3.5, my dual monitor support has stopped working.
I am stuck with 800X600 type of display. The actual display should be
1600X900. I am not even able to see this resolution in the display
settings. Was anything broken in the recent updates ? What is the fix ? I
am having Intel Controller for display.
Kind regards.
Amitakhya.

Regarding SRT, i have in this array a SSD drive and a normal hard drive.
I've also tried with the mdadm package from testing (3.2.5-4).
I do not suceed in accessing this raid aray.

mdadm: Cannot activate member /md126/0 in /dev/md126.
It seems related to this bug.
I'm not sure that afterall, this is currently supported.

USB related development on Linux
by Fernando Cassia
Hi there,
I know this list is ´users´ oriented. So what mailing list can you
guys suggest for learning specifically about Linux USB programming, ie
´for newbies´? You know, where one can learn about the oddities of the
usb protocol by example without being lectured to RTFM?. ;)
Is there any such list?. or at least a good book recommendation?
TIA for any suggestions.
