How does Fedora handle xntpd?
by Reg Clemens
I cant see how Fedora handles xntpd, and would like some insight.
I see GATEWAY being set in either /etc/sysconfig/network or
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ethx depending on wether
you want the same value for all (ether)nets.
But where is this used in a call to xntpd?
Using 'ps -laxw | grep xntpd' I don't see xntpd running.
And how can I tell what xntpd has set?
(yes I know that its returned by 'netstat -r' but was looking
for something 'more direct'.

A wallet mystery
by Timothy Murphy
First of all, KWalletManager does not seem to do anything
on my Fedora-17/KDE laptop;
I mean nothing seems to appear, or is listed in "top".
So I don't know how to add an item to my wallet.
I should say that I have never understood how the wallet scheme works.
I understand its general purpose, but not how it is implemented.
I seem to have two wallets, kdewallet and wallet,
with the latter said (in KDE Wallet Configuration) to be the default.
My problem - not very important from a practical point of view -
is that when I open KNode, highlight the Eternal September account,
and press B to Get New Articles in All Groups,
I am usually (nearly always) asked to enter a password for "wallet".
The message I get is from KDE Wallet Service, and it says that
"The application 'KNode' has requested to open the wallet 'wallet'.
Please enter the password for this wallet below."
When I do this, I can access the newsgroups in this account.
I see (in KDE Wallet Configuration=>Access Control)
that several applications are listed under both wallet and kdewallet,
but KNode is only listed under the former.
It seems I need to add KNode to kdewallet - I don't know why -
but I have not idea how to do this.
(The "Help" button in this window is of little assistance.)
As I said, I am generally mystified by the wallet system,
and in particular by how my two wallets interact,
and would welcome enlightenment on this area.

Fedora 18, future isn't too good as it seems :-<
by Junayeed Ahnaf
Hello,
I'm seeing that Fedora 18 has been delayed 5 times already, and this post from Michael isn't looking too good either: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTIxODk
Distro like Ubuntu and Suse almost never fails there shipping date, what do you think about Fedora's consecutive delays? Doesn't it hurt it's adoption rate to end users?
And a little off topic, how do you think KDE 5.0 will be?

System hangup with suggestion to do "systemctl default"
by Junayeed Ahnaf
Hello,
I used my system last night, all fine. I don't have any testing or unauthorized repo installed , I did usual update everyday, and just press yes.
Now all on a sudden, my system is booting into console and I'm seeing "give password for maintenance" (which results in me logging into the console).
Or the system is suggesting me to use "systemctl default"/CTRL-D both of which results in nothing :S
Please help me :(

somehting similar is hapenning on Ubuntu 3.2.0-32
How do I troubleshoot this?
I can pres Ctrl-Alt F1 and enter a command line environment, but then what?

emails, selinux and Fedora 17
by lee
Hi,
it seems that selinux gets in the way of my self-compiled emacs when
gnus is trying to get mails from /var/spool/mail/lee. Movemail isn't
permitted to get the mail from there. I have tried to adjust the file
permissions on movemail, and it's like this now:
-bash-4.2$ ls -laZ /usr/local/libexec/emacs/24.2.50/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/movemail
-rwxr-xr-x. root root system_u:object_r:bin_t:s0 /usr/local/libexec/emacs/24.2.50/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/movemail
-bash-4.2$ ls -laZ /usr/libexec/emacs/24.1/x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu/movemail
-rwxr-xr-x. root root system_u:object_r:bin_t:s0 /usr/libexec/emacs/24.1/x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu/movemail
The version of emacs that is in Fedora works, though I'd rather use my
self-compiled version because there have been bug fixes to gnus which
might not be in emacs 24.1.
What am I missing?
I'm used to have exim delivering mail into ~/Maildir in maildir format,
and since that doesn't work with selinux anymore, I have adjusted my
exim configuration to deliver to /var/spool/mail/<user> instead. In the
exim configuration section that specifies the routers, I had to set
"group = mail" for those routers that end up making local deliveries to
work around permission problems. Is that the way it's supposed to be?
So far, that works fine, and I'm not sure if I want to go back to
delivering into users home directories. Now I'm wondering if all the
services are set up correctly since I'm also using clamd to scan for
viruses:
Will freshclam be run automatically, or do I need to set up a cron job
for it?
Is there some documentation about selinux in Fedora that would give me
better understanding? I've switched from Debian to Fedora yesterday and
didn't use selinux with Debian. Now with Fedora, selinux is somewhat
getting in the way, but I don't want to just turn it off.
