OT: Any way to mount a Netware 5 partition with Fedora?
by Michael D. Setzer II
Have a student that works for a company that just had the
motherboard in there server go out. Disk is fine, but motherboard
was very old and had an onboard scsi controller. Can see the
driver and the DOS and Netware partition, but can not mount the
Netware partition.
Tried two other SCSI controllers in a new machine, and it boots to
the Novell : prompt, but the keyboard doesn't respond at all?
Copied the partitions to an IDE disk, and it boots to the same :
prompt.
They just need the POS system program and data files.
Did see some old info on nwfs, but don't see that available
anymore.
Any ideals. I ran Novell 2.2 thru 4.11, but last time was back in
1999.
Thanks.

Cannot recognize HDD layout after a fresh installation of Windows 8
by 某因幡
Hi, all.
I have a fresh installation of Windows 8.
HDD was parted as MBR, a reserved partition, NTFS C:/D: and the left 200GB
space was left unchanged.
Now I'm trying to install Fedora 17, using UltraISO burned the image as USB
HDD.
Then it comes to the step of partition. It seems that parted reports that
the HDD is empty, no previous partition can be found.
Tried Linux Mint 13 and Suse 12.2, the results are all same as Fedora 17.

Bugzilla - Modeset - Kernel 3.4 to 3.6 upgrade no longer boots
by Steve T
Good afternoon,
I have been running my laptop on various versions of FC without a
problem and am currently on FC16 running Gnome 3 in full mode.
Recently the FC16 Kernel was updated from 3.4.11 to 3.6.2 and my laptop
(Dell Latitude D610 ) would no longer boot - although I could go back to
any 3.4 kernel and it booted ok and worked under Gnome 3. There were no
messages on the failed 3.6.x boot - the screen just went blank. After a
bit of delving it seemed that a similar problem had been reported in
relation to Plymouth and modesetting. Following that track lead me to
'Bug 845745 - kernel version 3.5.0-2 hangs at boot with modesetting:
"conflicting fb hw usage radeondrmfb vs VESA VGA - removing generic
driver" ' on Fedora Bugzilla.
I did try the 'nomodeset', and that does allow a boot under 3.6.2, but
then Gnome 3 goes into fallback mode.
Does anyone know if this will be fixed under FC16, or is this a generic
Kernel fix that will appear across all releases that use that kernel?

IPTABLES and EBTABLES
by Lázaro Morales
Hello,
How can be used EBTABLES in addition to IPTABLES to forward traffic
from an internal LAN to an external?
Suppose that I have an internal LAN with private IPs, and a Gateway
that control the traffic to the outside, and I only need forward traffic
for certain MAC address regardless IP address.
INTERNET --> Gateway <--- LAN
I'm not sure if I have to enable the following modules in `sysctl.conf`:
net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-iptables = 0
net.bridge.bridge-nf-call-arptables = 0
I have tried with the following configuration, but nothing happens:
# ebtables -F
# ebtables -t nat -F
# ebtables -P INPUT ACCEPT
# ebtables -P OUTPUT ACCEPT
# ebtables -P FORWARD ACCEPT
# ebtables -A FORWARD -i eth0 -o eth1 -j ACCEPT
# ebtables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s INTERNAL_LAN_CLIENT_MAC -o eth1 \
-j snat --to-source MAC_OF_EXTERNAL_GATEWAY_INTERFACE
Any thought will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Lázaro.

How to find the definition of a string in /usr/include ?
by Reg Clemens
How do I find the definition of a string in /usr/include?
OK, there has got to be a better way to do this than with find and
grep (which isnt working). BUT how does one find the definition
of a string in /usr/include ???
In particular, I KNOW that month is defined SOMEWHERE, but Im
not finding in in the obvious (to me) places.
So how do I find 'Mo' or perhaps better yet 'Mo[' in /usr incude?
Is there a database that contains this information?

Network Manager question
by Timothy Murphy
I'm running Fedora-17/KDE on my laptop.
I lost the connection to my WiFi router
when I was in a rather distant room
(though "iwlist scan" could see the router)
and as a consequence I got the message
=====================
Secrets for linksys - KDE Daemon
The network linksys requires authentication
[Text area]
Show password OK Cancel
=====================
every two minutes or so.
However, I COULD NOT WRITE in the text area indicated.
I remember suffering from this some time ago,
but I thought the issue had been sorted out.
I don't really understand how an application
can ask for a password, and yet not allow one to be entered?
I suspect the culprit is a KDE program
that is supposed to be "helping" NM.
I'm not sure why NM needs this help?

MySQL installation on Fedora 17
by Rafnews
Hi,
I would like to know if someone already installed MySQL on Fedora 17
without any issue?
I mean by without any issue, to install MySQL from A to Z (first try)
without really no issue.
I found several posts/tutorials on internet and for some reasons nobody
seemed to be successful from the first try.
I had also some troubles with remote access and socket when i installed
it on several computers (virtual or real hardware).

RE: IPTABLES and EBTABLES
by Errol Mangwiro
your commands are for iptables not ebtables. another way you could do this is to use system-config-firewall to setup masquerading and a stock set of rules for you since you’re not familiar with netfilter, and then add your custom rules later.

actually in Docbook format. What script or program can be used to
