Looking for a new netbook
by Robert Moskowitz
I have to do something about replacing or upgrading my Asus ee701.
So I am looking for a netbook with:
7-9" screen
1Gb mem
16Gb storage
5hr battery
< $100
Asus 900? I can watch ebay and hopefully get one in my price range.
Dell 1012 is a bit big for my wants.
Others?

Kate over a remote connection
by Mark Haney
Up until the latest version of Kate (3.8.5 with Qt v4.8.1 & KDE v4.8.5)
I've been able to use it over a remote LAN connection without any
trouble. (I know I can use vi, but unless someone can show me how to
highlight perl and javascript code in vi, this is what I use)
Now it's just dog slow. Simply typing a single word such as 'testing'
is lagging on the keystrokes. Anybody know of a place to start figuring
this out? I know I can hit the KDE people, but I'd like to have some
debugging data to send to them.

Grub boot menu after kernel update/install
by Mateusz Marzantowicz
I know it's nothing serious but after installing/removing new kernel
with yum my boot menu is totally messed up.
What I mean here is that after clean install of Fedora (17/18) or after
running grub2-mkconfig there are only two "top level" items in grub menu:
1. Fedora
2. Advanced options for Fedora
I really like to have only those two items, but every kernel
installation adds new items to the menu related to new kernels. Is it a
bug or is it just some inconsistency? Why grub2-mkconfig makes order
again but simple yum upgrade/distro-sync messes things? How can I fix
permanently?

Is there any way to trace ip addresses back past the originating ISP.
I've been using whois but it seems limited.
Thanks in advance

mp4 video to AMV 160x120
by Robert Moskowitz
I just got a Trio v418 that was advertised as supporting mp4 video, but
it does not. Only AMV.
So is there a tool to convert mp4 videos to AMV format with 160x120
resolution?

yumex is working just fine here. Don't mess with its desktop files, your issue is something else.
BTW, that looks like yumex-local.desktop which is made to install local rpm's.
yumex.desktop is attached in case you lost it (?)

Yumex issue on new install
by Joe Zeff
I finally broke down and replaced F16 with F17 on my laptop with a clean
install, except for /home. The good news is that the boot issue went
away, proving that it was a software issue not a kernel issue. The bad
news is that after installing yumex I can't get it to run. It asks me
to authenticate, but always fails, claiming the password's wrong. I
know that I haven't forgotten the root password because it's the same
one I used to install yumex.
I'm not at that computer right now, but I did have a thought: just on a
whim, when I set up my user I made it an Admin, putting it in the wheel
group. (I'm not sure why; when I was customizing my install I made sure
sudo wasn't installed because I have no use for it. [I'd feel
differently, of course, if this were a production box.]) Could it be
expecting me to use my password instead of root's? If so, I'll take a
moment and remove myself from wheel because it really doesn't matter one
way or the other as long as I'm the only person who ever uses it.

Is nspluginwrapper needed for AdobeReader?
by Robert Moskowitz
On f17 x86_64 I have installed AdobeReader and it seems to work just
fine without nspluginwrapper.i686
Do I really need nspluginwrapper.i686?
(When I googled about how to yum install AdobeReader, the site showed
needing to install nspluginwrapper)

Second sentence should read:
"If you don't want your (web-)app (and its users) to be vulnerable to MiTM attacks, they need to be issued by CA's that are trusted by the (web-)app users. The easiest way to do so is to use one of the many commercial CA's trusted by default by browsers. These certificates are frequently quite inexpensive."
