Reloading amavisd to read spamassassin rules
by Alex
Hi all,
I've discovered that when I use "service amavisd reload" to signal
amavisd to reload the spamassassin rules, it sometimes exits
completely. If I use restart, it works fine.
However, using restart seems unecessary. What is the proper way to
signal amavisd to reload the spamassassin rules?
Is there a kill signal that I can send? Is there a more appropriate
command to use?
Thanks,
Alex

F17: How to restore EFI (for Mac) grub.conf (after grub2-mkconfig issue)
by Gottfried Haider
Hello all,
I am running Fedora 17 on a MacBook Air. Since I needed to change the
kernel command line, I made changes to /etc/default/grub and
(following documentation) tried to update the grub.conf by running
grub2-mkconfig (-c /boot/efi/EFI/redhat/grub.conf).
This prevented my system from booting (legacy grub only showed me the
prompt). I've since manually hacked together a grub.conf that can at
least boot the system again, but that leads me to the question:
How can I restore the original (post-install) grub.conf for my EFI install?
Thanks in advance

DNS problems this morning -
by Bob Goodwin
My ISP appears to have a dns problem today. it has been taking as
much as one minute to deal wit an address! I appears that we are
locked into using the Viasat provided dns, the usual alternatives
like opndns do not work.
I installed caching-nameserver which seems to restore things to normal.
yum install caching-nameserver
I have two questions:
1: It seems to me that it must have to collect and accumulate
it's own list of addresses which would mean it is normal for it
to work faster the second time an address is requested of it?
2: Is there a practical way to share my Linux dns with other
[Apple Mac, etc.] computers on our LAN?

abrt: how can you change bugzilla credentials?
by D. Hugh Redelmeier
On Fedora 17, I'm getting a few aborts. Before I get to the fundamental
problem, I'd like to let "abrt" file a BZ.
The problem is that I mistyped the password when abrt first ran. Now it
always uses that wrong password. So it can never succeed.
Does anyone know how to change abrt's idea of Bugzilla credentials?
Does anyone know where it squirrels awy the Bugzilla credentials?
See <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=861899>
I've looked in /etc/libreport/plugins/bugzilla.conf and in /etc/abrt.
It's not there.

Fedora 17: Auto configuring wireless networks in Network Manager on first boot
by Arun SAG
Hi,
How do i configure wireless networks in NetworkManager during install time
so that the user don't have to configure it manually. I tried to drop in
the file ifcfg-networkname in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/, but Network
Manager keeps asking me to configure the network myself despite the
presence of the configuration file.
Here is my ifcfg-networkname file looks like
HWADDR=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
ESSID="networkname"
MODE=Managed
KEY_MGMT=WPA-EAP
SECURITYMODE=open
TYPE=Wireless
IEEE_8021X_EAP_METHODS=PEAP
IEEE_8021X_IDENTITY=<username>
IEEE_8021X_PASSWORD_FLAGS=ask
IEEE_8021X_INNER_AUTH_METHODS=GTC
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
DEFROUTE=yes
PEERDNS=yes
PEERROUTES=yes
IPV4_FAILURE_FATAL=no
IPV6INIT=yes
IPV6_AUTOCONF=yes
IPV6_DEFROUTE=yes
IPV6_PEERDNS=yes
IPV6_PEERROUTES=yes
IPV6_FAILURE_FATAL=no
IPV6_PRIVACY=rfc3041
NAME=<mynetworkname>
UUID=cbb10c64-e609-4dcf-b554-7343cb791eae
ONBOOT=yes
Does network manager do anything other than generating this file when the
user configures a wireless network?
PS: Reposing in users list

System fonts are all messed up ????
by linux guy
F16 install, KDE, fully up to date.
Did an upgrade to F17 via the F17 DVD.
Now all the system fonts are messed up, size wise. All of them are way
too large.
On the session login screen, for example, the font size in the Username
and Password fields are so big that the letters overflow the height of
the box.
This problem exists everywhere in the session where system fonts are used.
Application fonts seem to be fine and are easily adjusted with
KDE->System Settings-> Application Appearance -> Fonts.
I cannot figure out where to adjust the size of the system fonts.
I have half a dozen Linux systems running F17, all upgraded via the DVD
and this is the only one with this problem.
What do I do to fix this issue ?
Thanks in advance.

Sidegrade from F16.x86_64 to F17.i686
by Frank Murphy
Would it be possible to sidegrade from a 64bit install to 32bit.
This is just for my own bag of info collection.
Rather that a "lets go do it" project.

Frank

FC 17 and Intel HD4000 no login screen only background
by Kim Barthel
Hello,
i set up a new system with an in Intel i7 3770t.
It runs Ubuntu 12.10 without any problem, but when I try to install FC17 I only get the background of the loginscreen. I cannot even use the live cd, because of the same problem.
I installed the system by connecting the ssd to my old pc. I was able to login and do everything there, but when I connect the drive to my new system I get the problem with the loginscreen.
I installed Fedora-17-x86_64-Live-Desktop.
Thanks in advance!
Sincerely
Kim
