No wireless (waiting for authorization) after awake from suspend
by Gene Smith
F15 on new HP dv7-6195 (i7/sandy bridge) cannot regain wireless
connection after awake from suspend. In KDE, I see notification "waiting
for authorization" and then a "key" icon appears over the wireless icon
in tray. In gnome, a dialog pops up with my wireless key (correctly
filled in) for me to confirm. After confirming, it keeps popping back up
every 30 seconds or so. Never asks for my password, just wireless key.
It is set to be stored in encrypted file.
Wired ethernet connection works fine before and after suspend and
wireless works fine only before suspend.
I have tried rmmod / modprobe to remove / add back the wireless driver.
Also, set selinux to permissive thinking it might be that type of problem.
Only reboot, so far, brings wireless back.
Any ideas?

RS880 Audio Device (Radeon HD 4200) HDMI sound interface difficulties
by Gregory P. Ennis
Everyone,
I have a new install of F16 on a Gateway laptop with an ATI Movility
Radeon HD4250 that I am not able to get any sound output through an hdmi
interface. I believe that I have the sound interface selected
appropriately. The speakers on the laptop work fine, but there is no
sound to the hdmi. I have also tested the hdmi receiver with a
different laptop and it is working satisfactorily.
Does anyone know if there are special drivers that are needed for this.
Your help would be appreciated.
Thanks much,
Greg Ennis

Firefox 9 can't set home page <SOLVED>
by Aaron Konstam
I solved my Firefox 9 homepage. No ones posting gave the best solution
but some were close. All the responses helped me understand Firefox
better so thank you all.
Now the solution:
I noticed when the bing search page was displayed www.bing.com did not
appear in the address window. Rather the following address was
displayed:
search.conduit.com/?ctid=CT2857572&Search source=13
I would like someone to tell me why that address displays bing. But
anyway in about:config there was the variable: HomepageBeforeUnload
that that web address as its value. I changed its value to:
http://www.google.com
and all was well. You notice there is no reference to bing in that web
address that gave me bing. So there is some mystery left.

Listings Question About Ping
by Richard Heck
When I do:
ls /bin/ping
I get "ping" displayed with black text on a red background. I don't see
anything special about its permissions. What's up? I ask because I've
installed another program recently that has the same color display, and
I'm trying to figure out why.

How To Install Miro & Arista In Fedora 16
by Swapnil Bhartiya
Hi,
I can't find Miro and Arista in Fedora repos (have also installed Live
and RPM Fusion). I need these two apps to convert movies for my Samsung
Galaxy 10.1 tab (and also writing a review). Is there any easy way to
install such apps on Fedora?
Best

creating all users with one primary group?
by Franta Hanzlík
Has anyone experience with situation, when all users on Fedora
distro have same primary group (i.e. is not created extra group
for every user?
Namely I'm asking when all programs will be working without problems.
I want use for all users predefined group "users" (GID=100), which
seems be intended for that situation; in "/etc/default/useradd" is
this group defined.
I'm little confused from two things too:
- according to useradd man page, USERGROUPS_ENAB variable in
"/etc/login.defs" controls, when by default will be for users created
their own primary group or not. Thus set "USERGROUPS_ENAB no" should
disable this "feature". But in this file on Fedora distros
(F14-F16) is weird comment
"This enables userdel to remove user groups if no members exist"
- "/etc/login.defs" defines variable "GID_MIN 500". In F16 are min
UID/GID raised to 1000 and arrives two new variables
SYS_UID_MIN 201
SYS_UID_MAX 999
Poses this that what GID=100 are still "normal user" GID and may be
used as primary (and only) user group ID?
Thanks, Franta
