File conflicts
by Chris Kottaridis
I tried to use yum to install openchange-devel and that package seems to
have a man page in common with the man package:
$ yum install openchange-devel
<bunch o stuff>
Transaction Check Error:
file /usr/share/man/man3/index.3.gz from install of
openchange-devel-0.9-9.fc14.x86_64 conflicts with file from package
man-pages-3.25-1.fc14.noarch
What is the right way to get around this conflict. I really probably
don't need the man page version from openchange-devel, I'd rather keep
the standard one.
Is there some way to tell yum to not intall the conflicting file, but
install all the others ?
Thanks

udev rules + adb insufficient permission
by slamp slamp
did anything change on how udev creates devices for usb's?
specifically debugging device for adb? i dont know when this changed
but all of the sudden i did not have permission to my adb device. i
had to create a udev rule to specify the proper permission. i am
running fedora 14 x86 with all the latest updates. i checked my yum
log and did not see anything pertaining to udev.

Boost Library Parallel Installation
by Mark LaPierre
Is it possible to install boost-1.37.0-6.fc11.i586 along side
boost-1.41.0-11.fc13.i686 on F13 without hosing up the entire system?
I've got a thorny dependency problem that sym-links doesn't fix. Maybe
I could install it to a different base directory?

desktop file exec working firectory
by Dj YB
Hello,
I am creating a desktop file for a service menu, and can't find out how to use
the directory from which the action was launched.
this is how it looks:
Exec=convert %F `kdialog --title "save PDF" --getsavefilename join.pdf`;
this is how I want it to look:
Exec=convert %F `kdialog --title "save PDF" --getsavefilename $PWD/join.pdf`;
that doesn't work.
thanks in advance,
YB.

apcupsd & Fedora 14
by Jorge Fábregas
Hi,
Is anyone here using apcupsd with Fedora 14? I just noticed the stock
apcupsd package is crippled. It won't send the "killpower" signal to
the UPS (just had a power outage).
When I inspect /etc/init.d/hat, the only UPS-related logic there is:
# Shutdown UPS drivers
if [ "$command" = /sbin/halt ] && [ -f /etc/sysconfig/ups ]; then
. /etc/sysconfig/ups
if [ -z $POWERDOWNFLAG ]; then
POWERDOWNFLAG=/etc/killpower
fi
if [ "$SERVER" = "yes" ] && [ -f $POWERDOWNFLAG ]; then
/sbin/upsdrvctl shutdown
fi
fi
These files (/etc/sysconfig/ups & /etc/killpower) are not related at all
to apcupsd. Also, when I check what package provides /sbin/upsdrvctl I
get the "nut" package. I'm not using nut and I also disabled the
power-manager on Gnome.
I verified the apcupsd package for scriplets (to see if it would modify
/etc/init.d/halt according to apcupsd) but it won't. Am I missing
something? If not I'll open a bugzilla then.
Thanks,
Jorge

GNOME - mount CD/DVD to fixed point
by Franta Hanzlík
Hello all,
is possible in GNOME 2.30/2.32 (on actual F13/F14) for some users mount
CD/DVD media not to "/media/VolName/", but to fixed mountpoint - e.g.
media pushed to /dev/sr0 mount to /media/cd0 or to ~/Desktop/CD0 e.t.c.?
Or mount as currently GNOME does, but in adition automatically create
fixed symlink to created mountpoint (and remove it after is media unmounted].
I know "autofs" automounter can mount CD/DVD to fixed point, but this
likely isn't user-aware and it would have do with any custom scripting. Or
this task can be probably solved by watching /media directory using
incrond or inotify-tools and custom scripts - but solution directly in
GNOME would be cleaner.
Thanks in advance, Franta Hanzlik

nautilus help
by kellyremo
When i rith click on a file in nautilus, i could see, this:
Compress -> .tar.xz
Compress -> .tar.7z
But there not using the best compression method: smallest file/longest creation time, like:
7z a -mx=9 FOO.tar.7z FOO.tar
xz -9 -z FOO.TAR
How could i set it in nautilus, to ".tar.xz" with "-9", and ".tar.7z" with "-mx=9"?
Is there any solution? I'm using Fedora 14!
