Installed ATI driver removal after Xorg update
by Zoltan Hoppar
Hi,
I have installed the original factory driver from ATi, what is worked
until I have received the Xorg update. This bugfix update has broken
the output (only receive an black screen), and I would like to restore
the original screen. Please suggest somekind of solution - what are
the possibilities when I would like to fix my system, and don't want
to reinstall completely? What do you prefer - how can I revert the
update, or remove the ATi driver?
Thanks,
Zoltan

Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3t
by CS DBA
Hi all;
I'm thinking about buying a Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3t and running Fedora14
on it. Anyone know if it's compatible? Web searches seem to indicate
that the wireless may be an issue. Any thoughts on if Fedora14 works
well with this card:
BCM 4313 BGN Wireless
Thanks in advance...

Issues after preupgrade F13-F14
by Wade Hampton
I upgraded my netbook from Fedora 13 to 14 using preupgrade.
The update was not smooth and I am still working through
problems (started Christmas week).
I have the following problems and am working through them.
1) No check up front on disk space, update started then after
a few minutes mentioned insufficient space in /boot
(yes, I had only 100M). The preupgrade did continue
after I checked the dialog box.
2) preupgrade checked for packages then started the upgrade.
About 1/2 way through, it complained about a file it could not
upgrade and aborted (moodle). I booted into the old kernel,
removed the package and restarted the upgrade.
3) After upgrade, the new kernel has an OOPS on boot so I
am still using the old kernel.
4) Lots of old packages were left on the system. I am trying to
remove them but this is taking a while.... I am using
package-cleanup --orphans >ofile then editing ofile and
feeding it to rpm -e $(cat ofile)
The only problem I currently need help with is fixing the
kernel boot problem.... The rest I have worked through.
A fresh install would have been FAR easier.
Cheers,

F14, from runlevel 3 can't logout from X environment
by jjletho67-arodef@yahoo.it
Hi all,
i think to have discovered a very strange bug on fedora 14, but i was not able
to
gather the attention of a developer yet, so i'm also posting here in the hope
someone could investigate and solve it.
briefly this is the problem:
1) Fedora 14 installed on a vmware virtual machine (but you can reproduce the
problem also with a livecd)
2) boot in runlevel 3
3) startx --> X comes up normally
4) logout using the logout button in the system menu --> keyboard and mouse are
frozen, screen is blocked and the background image is visualized, it's no more
possible to obtain a text console.
I have already done a lot of test, described in bugzilla and in the forum
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=665540
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=256585
further data i gathered:
1) when the problem occours the system is still alive, i can login remotely
through ssh.
2) after logout X is really completely died, no X related process are alive.
(resources not released ??)
3) the problem is not related to a particular window manager, i reproduced it
with KED, GNOME, FLUXBOX and FVWM
4) The problem seems to be hardware related, i have reproduced it only on vmware
hardware, on a normal q35 based pc i CAN'T reproduce the problem
In my opinion the source of the problem could be in the xorg-x11-drv-vmware
driver or in something connected to it.
All the tests and the experiences of other users are on the forum and on
bugzilla
Is someone of you able to do some more tests ? Could you build a package with
the latest version of the driver ?
Any help is very appreciated

Fedora + BigBlueButton = win (multi conference chat, voice and video server for meetings/teachings)
by Valent Turkovic
Hi Galls & Guys,
you should have a look at BigBlueButton as a multi conference and
video server for your meetings/teachings (http://bigbluebutton.org).
This is a great program, you can install it in a breeze, fully GPL
compliant and with a very active community.
Latest version has multi video conference with screen sharing, text
chat, slides control and even shared whiteboard for annotations!
This is huge for remote teaching, and you don't need to subscribe to
any web page, nor pay anyone to use their server.
Maybe Fedora community can even help develop bbb further, a working
client that uses non-adobe gpl flash player would be sweet, for
example.
And no, I don't get paid by BigBlueButton at all :P
You should also consider BigBlueButton (http://bigbluebutton.org) if
you want to host your own servers, and it's fully open source and
under a heavy development. There are scripts to install it very easily
in Redhat/CentOS and Ubuntu/Debian.
I first heard about bbb project on FLOSS Weekly podcast
(http://twit.tv/floss147)
Bu sure to check out their videos: http://bigbluebutton.org/content/videos
Should I post this email to Fedora board or some other mailing list
because I'm not sure that Fedora user mailing list is the right way
for this proposal.
Cheers,
Valent.

dmcrypt-luks version
by mike cloaked
I note that cryptsetup-luks version 1.2.0 has builds for rawhide at
the moment, but for f14 the current version (and koji builds) are
version 1.1.3 only.
Does anyone know if there is a chance that 1.2.0 will be built for f14
before f15 is released?
