GNOME Terminal alternatives?
by Alex
Hi,
Some time ago I posted the message below, and still haven't been able
to find the answers to the Terminal configuration questions that I
have, and hoped someone might have some ideas. Is there an alternative
that might be better suited for what I want to do, without requiring
creating an .xtermrc from the command-line?
I'd really just like the ability to copy/paste by just highlighting,
and the ability to copy to/from a VM. Ideas great appreciated.
- How can I disable the automatic conversion of email address and URLs
to hyperlinks?
- How can I make the mouse scroll wheel be used for scrolling back
through the terminal buffer, rather than acting as an up arrow?
- How can I change the terminal bell sound?
- How can I configure the terminal so copy is performed by simply
highlighting the text with the mouse, and paste is done through
shift-insert? I understand the default is to press the mouse scroll
wheel, but I would prefer the method I've described, and the scroll
wheel on my mouse apparently doesn't always properly work -- sometimes
it simply does not paste, and I have to do it a few times. I don't
understand why, because it's a brand new mouse (MS Wireless 5000).
- I found a link to copy and paste between a terminal and Windows
running in a VM, but isn't there a better way than installing and
running a separate program on both Windows and Linux for this purpose?

Ideas greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex

OSS Combat Flight Sim for F13 ?
by Gavin Spurgeon
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi List,
A friend of mine is looking for $Subject... So thought i would post here
to see if anyone has any recommendations...
I'm seeking an opensource combat flight sim for F13 (x86_64). Windows
games of the like are Battle Field 2 (flying with jets and heli's), M$
Combat Flight Sim and Hawx 2.
I haven't managed to come across anything with graphics which are
comparable to these Windows games on any linux platform. My goal is to
avoid going back to a dual boot just got a game I might play once or
twice a month.
I currently use X-Plane and dabble with FlightGear and the graphics are
quite reasonable, but the big thing I am looking for in such a game is
team dogfighting.
If someone has any recommendations and/or previous experience with these
kinds of games, I'd appreciate any suggest you might have.

Fedora-12 yum update dependency problems
by KC8LDO
I just did my normal yum update routine and found several problems flagged
as below:
[root@Fedora-12 Desktop]# yum update
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit

pkgconfig(nspr) = 4.8.4

pkgconfig(nspr) = 4.8.2
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
** Found 1 pre-existing rpmdb problem(s), 'yum check' output follows:
tigervnc-server-1.0.1-3.fc12.i686 is a duplicate with
tigervnc-server-1.0.0-3.fc12.i686
[root@Fedora-12 Desktop]#
Doing a "yum clean all" and "rpm --rebuilddb" did not fix the rpm database
problem either.

[OT] wine and internet access
by Joachim Backes
Hi,
For some reasons, I had to install wine by using the git version:
git clone git://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git <target>
Installation (version 1.3.2-225-g5815b63) has performed, but it seems
that this wine has no access to the internet.
Question: Do I have to install additional packages for getting an
internet access by wine? An installed firefox for win for example had no
chance to access any external links.
Any help is welcome.
Kind regards
Joachim Backes

Adding a second IP address with NM
by Robert G. (Doc) Savage
How does one add a second, non-routable IP address to a laptop's
Ethernet port with NetworkManager and F13? At one time I knew how to do
this without NM, but a few key brain cells seem to have failed.

unix_checkpwd[980]: password check failed for user (jonathan)
by Jonathan Beatty
Subject is the error line I get when I try to change a password from
single-user mode. I got the same error last time I tried to install
Fedora 13 with the same situation. I can't log in as a user or as
root, nor can I change the passwords.
It's a Gateway MT3421, if it matters. AMD Turion64 with 2gb of RAM.
I'm installing the i686 version for Skype and Flash, but it should
still work.

fedora 14, systemd question
by Brian Millett
OK, so I'm playing with F14 to learn about the systemd.
After doing systemctl, I see several services in maintenance mode:
systemd-initctl.socket loaded maintenance
Ok, so now what? Is there a tutorial on clearing or fixing a
maintenance service?
Thanks.
