XMarks (OT?)
by Timothy Murphy
An "XMarks Settings" window opens every few days on my Fedora-13 laptop,
saying "Syncing successfully", but with an option to "Synchronize Now".
This seems ambiguous to me;
if it is "syncing successfully", why should I "synchronize now"?
(I have to respond for the window to close.)

evince problem (doesn't remember defaults)
by Danny Yee
Upgrading from F12 to F13 was really smooth, but there a couple of
very annoying regressions.
Every time I open a PDF using evince (document viewer), I get a small
window in the top left of my screen, which I have to resize to be
usable. It's also set to "best width" instead of "best fit", so I
have to change that as well. My new settings aren't remembered for
the next invocation of evince. A zero length file is being created in
~/.gnome2/evince/last_settings.
Any advice on how to fix this? I'm not running GNOME or KDE - I'm
using a lightweight stand-alone window-manager (9wm).
Danny.

F13 and sound in Thunderbird
by mike cloaked
I have just installed a new f13 system clean in a machine that was
previously running and needed updating and I have a problem that I
can't fix.
Everything that I have tested works just fine, except that in
Thunderbird (both stock as well as latest nightly) if you go to
Edit->Preferences->General and click to play a sound for incoming
mail, then if you select the system sound it works, but if you ask it
to play a .wav file then it does not but instead plays the default
system sound ( a beep ) when email arrives.
I have tried to run alsamixer from a terminal and have only a limited
number of options but the few things that are visible are set on and
at a reasonable level and this seems not to help. I have pavucontrol
and paman installed but nothing there seems to help either for
pulseaudio control.
Yet in a terminal using aplay xxxx.wav does play the sound file
perfectly, so sound appears to both be on and working.
Does anyone else have this issue? If so is there a known workaround?
I am guessing this is a bug in Thunderbird, but could be a problematic
interaction between Thunderbird and pulseaudio?
Any information gratefully received that might get this working.... oh
and this is from Gnome as the desktop.

Rsync + Windows 7 - backing up to linux server
by Max Pyziur
Greetings,
I have successfully been using rsync to backup my Linux desktop and laptop
for several years.
My current goal is to automatically backup a Windows 7 desktop to a linux
server using rsync. I've found guidance here:
http://www.gaztronics.net/rsync.php
I have installed Cygwin along with the rsync option.
For the Windows 7 machine I've written a short batch file who's critical
line reads as follows:
c:\cygwin\bin\rsync -vrtz -e "c:\cygwin\bin\ssh -i
/home/someuser/.ssh/id_rsa" /cygdrive/b
someuser@leeloo:/var/backup/arrakis
It almost works as intended. I can run it from the Windows 7 machine by
doubleclicking the file, or running it from a Command window. In either
case, I need to be authenticated by my Linux machine.
I would like to have the script run automatically from Windows 7 Task
scheduler w/o having to sit there and authenticate the process.
The Gaztronics article suggests a process; to that end I've modified the
above line to read:
c:\cygwin\bin\rsync -vrtz -e "c:\cygwin\bin\ssh -i
/home/hanya/.ssh/id_rsa" --password-file=c:\cygwin\secret /cygdrive/b
deckard@leeloo::arrakis
However, I'm still required to authenticate. And I get the following
errors/noise:
rsync: unable to open configuration file "rsyncd.conf": No such file or
directory
rsync error: syntax or usage error (code 1) at clientserver.c(498)
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [sender]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at
/home/lapo/packaging/rsync-3.0.7-1/src/rsync-3.0.7/io.c(601)
[sender=3.0.7]
However, there is a rsyncd.conf file at the both the client and the server
end.
Any help would be appreciated greatly.
Much thanks.

No WIFI under HP Probook 4515s
by Zoltan Hoppar
Hi guys,
Currently I have run out of ideas about how to activate, and create an
working wifi on my new machine. It uses an Broadcom PHY - Broadcom
Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY [14e4:4315] (rev 01). I have followed
the the advices at linuxwireless.org - but no effect. Maybe I have made
mistakes, or something went wrong - I couldn't tell that. I have already
changed the latest kernel to PAE version, because wasn't were the default.
Changed also the firmware package to newer, but what currently I have
achieved is the following:
Networkmanager sees that I have wifi, but shows no wifi network, and says
it's "disconnected". The iwconfig command says that I have wireless at eth1,
but further data has seems to be set up to nothing (IEEE 802.11
Nickname:"", Access Point: Not-Associated, Link Quality:5 Signal level:0
Noise level:0, Rx invalid nwid:0 invalid crypt:0 invalid misc:0).
Somewhere I have red that for that PHY is integrated with the bluetooth
(witch is works - seems to be active), and I will need one of the 2.6.35.xx
kernel for fedora. Well, I don't know, but I don't want back the originally
shipped SuSE Enterprise Desktop 11....

Auto save for .txt files
by Parshwa Murdia
hi,
Is there any way to have auto save option for .txt files in Fedora.
Means, if we write something, in some seconds (fixed, e.g., 10 secs)
that after which it automatically saves the name.txt files while
creating any new file in Fedora.

firefox youtube cookie fix
by Frank Cox
I keep the "accept cookies from sites" option un-checked in my Firefox
preferences and maintain a (short) list of websites that I allow cookies
from.
Even though I have "allow for session" set for www.youtube.com, it still
comes up with "An error occurred" when I try to play a video. If I
check "accept cookies from sites" and reload the page, it works even
though no cookie that's not already on my whitelist shows up.
Which is a pain because I have to change that setting, reload the page,
watch the video and then remember to change the setting back to not
accept cookies again.
I just found the fix.
www.youtube.com is already on my "accept for session" cookie exception
list.
Adding youtube.com (note no www in that) to that list manually (under
Edit-Prefrences-Privacy-Exceptions) solves the problem..

by PaulCartwright
I'm running fedora 13, and and on my laptop, I have a synaptic
touchpad. When I am moving the cursor around, I used to be able to TAP
the pad to make it do the same as a left-double-click. I can't figure
out how to make it do that in fedora ( gnome).. Not sure what menu that
would be under...

httpd.worker php support
by solarflow99
Has anyone else found a way to run Apache's worker MPM with php
programs like drupal, etc. ? I see php-zts provides a thread safe
php finally, which is excellent. But none of the php modules will
load, which makes it almost useless.

If you're using Shotwell, please sign on to this RFE on the bugzilla.
It would be nice to have the current version supported within the repos.
