Somewhat OT - can underpowered power supplies damage a system?

Say, hypothetically, I have 8 identical Intel DG45ID motherboard-based
system with 8GB memory and a single drive with a cheap-o generic 300w
power supply. All running Linux, so sorta on-topic.
Say those systems have been running for over a year, but lately they've
been really flaky. Random lockups, sometimes they boot with garbage
characters on the screen instead of the normal OS boot, sometimes they
hang at various parts of the boot sequence, spontaneous reboots when
kickstarting.
Say the Antec web site says I need more like a 350w power supply, and I
read somewhere that PSUs tend to age and get less efficient over time,
so I am guessing that I've been starving these things for juice for
weeks or maybe months.
Hypothetically, could I have actually damaged these systems if the PSU
was under-powered? Or would a new, higher powered PSU fix the problems
I've seen?
I would guess that too much juice might hurt the systems, but would too
little actually damage anything?
I know it's not thermal, they're in a very cold room with dedicated HVAC
and the airflow is great.
Hoping someone who knows more about electronics can chime in.

f13 nm-applet and new vpnc sessions

I can define a vpnc session via nm-applet just fine. But it isn't there
when I go to start it. I go back to recreate it and it appears to be
defined. What's up with that??

nxserver sound configuration/ESD sound support

Dear users!
nxserver [1] is running perfectly on my system [2]. Everything works
as expected and I can login from remote machine to my system. But I
would like also to have sound redirected from server to remote client.
I went through all steps on nomachine wiki [3] except the last two. I
couldn't understand how to compile gst-plugins-good package. Quote
from wiki:
Configure gst-plugins-good to compile only one external plugin, i.e. ESD:

Is there anybody on this list who did the trick with sound
redirection? Could you please give me some hints?

The gui for setting up the firewall is to darned limited and it
creates unexpected rules and filters I did not specify.

Urgent: KDE printing custom paper sizes ?

I'm trying to print 6.5x10 cardstock from KDE in F13 on a Dell 1720
networked printer.
No matter what I do I cannot get the printing to align with the paper.
It works just fine on 8.5x11.
Any ideas on how to make this work ?

kernel crash

I leave my computer on 24/7 so that my backups can run at night.
Lately, it has been crashing during the night usually leaving no trace
of what happened. Last night it crashed but left this

This happened in the middle of the backup which started at 1:00am and finished (successfully) at 1:28am so perhaps the backup blocked the kjournald process but it didn't crash the computer because there are later messages in the backup log and the messages file.
The last entry in the messages file is:

Could a hard drive get shut down because it was getting too hot? What would be a normal temp for a hard drive that has just completed a backup? 124C seems really hot. The HD cooling fan had been broken so I replaced it this past weekend but it doesn't seem to have helped. Too late? Permanent HD damage already done?
Any other comments or suggestions?

Urgent: how do I setup/run gnome in F13 ?

I'm a long time KDE user. I'm having printer problems in KDE tonight
and I desperately need to get something printed.
I would like to log into a Gnome session and try printing from there.
(different infrastructure ?) However, when I log out of my KDE
session, there is no option to boot Gnome. How do I boot a Gnome
session these days ?

Dear folks,
I have downloaded/compiled and installed kernel 2.6.35.2 on one of my machines.
I get the above bug with details following:
I get the message that there is a kernel oops, but I can't report it since the
kernel is not a Fedora kernel and abrt does not work :(
Is there a way I can send this to kernel developers so they can get this error
and see what if anything causes it?

I apologize in advance for sending this, since I know that it is my own fault
since the kernel is a nonFedora kernel and this is why Fedora has stayed a

forwarding Syslog messages on localhost:514

Hello,
I have following problem with respect to syslogd on fedora13.
With the following configuration in the /etc/syslog.conf i should be able to receive all syslog messages on localhost:514 port.
*.* @localhost
I am not getting anything on localhost:514. However if additionally i give following in conf file.
*.* @localhost
*.* @remoteIP
In the I am receiving syslog messages on remoteIP:514 server. I tried to see straces and in strace it does not show any hint about sending data to localhost:514.
Is this the normal behavior of syslogd or I am missing something in configuration?
