HD Home move editor
by Richard Shaw
My new camera takes 720p clips (AVCHD) and I wanted to do a little
editing, but after installing Kino which I've used in the past, I
found it downgraded it to 480p DV video. Are that any full video
editors that handle HD movies correctly?
Thanks,
Richard

[OT] rather advanced video editing question
by Petrus de Calguarium
I have 2 versions of the same video from you tube.
Version 1: in 2 separate segments, great video, bad audio with long silences
Version 2: in 1 long file, poor grainy video, great flawless audio
Concatenated, if that is possible, both versions would have the same length.
Question: How can I join the 2 files from Version 1, erase the audio and
supplement it with the audio from version 2 (using programs available in fedora
& rpmfusion repos, of course)?

display problem through hdmi to tv
by Gianluca Cecchi
Hello,
I have a Dell laptop, XPS M1330.
I had this problem with f12 originally but didn't go deeper with it.
Now I have updated the same system to f13 and experiment the same.
It has an hdmi-out connector and I'm trying to correctly configure it to
send audio/video to hdmi only.
The connection is to a Panasonic 37" TV.
Audio is ok.
For video, after reading the tv specs I set these relevant parts in
xorg.conf
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Default Layout"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
Option "Xinerama" "0"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor1"
VendorName "Panasonic"
ModelName "TX-L37G10E"
HorizSync 31.0 - 69.0
VertRefresh 59.0 - 86.0
EndSection
Section "Device"
Identifier "Device0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
BoardName "GeForce 8400M GS"
Option "NoLogo" "True"
Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP-1"
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Device0"
Monitor "Monitor1"
DefaultDepth 24
Option "UseDisplayDevice" "DFP-1"
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1920x1080"
ViewPort 0 0
EndSubSection
EndSection
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection
It works and sends audio/video only to the tv, while the laptop display
remains black, but it seems that upper and lower rows of the screen are not
shown...
For example I don't see the top and bottom main bars.
xdpyinfo shows:
screen #0:
dimensions: 1920x1080 pixels (650x366 millimeters)
resolution: 75x75 dots per inch
depths (7): 24, 1, 4, 8, 15, 16, 32
root window id: 0x15a
depth of root window: 24 planes
so it seems correct
Xorg.0.log shows these warning lines:

I know that I'm using proprietary nvidia module and the question would be
somehow offtopic, but probably it is not related (only) to the driver..
Anyway I could also try to use nouveau driver and see if the problem arises
with it too...
In the mean time any suggestion?
When X Windows System starts, the tv shows the label
WIDE
1080p
So it seems it accepts the 1920x1080 resolution.
BTW: on laptop
cat /proc/cmdline shows:

Where do I report Chromium bugs?
by Patrick O'Callaghan
If I copy-and-paste a URL from the location bar in Chromium to the
Evolution composer, Evo inserts the contents of the URL as a mail
attachment, rather than just inserting the URL itself into the message.
At first I thought this was an Evo bug, but it only happens with
Chromium, not with Firefox, Konqueror or even Google Chrome.
Since it's not a Chrome bug, I don't want to waste my time sending it to
the Chrome bugs page, but Chromium doesn't appear to have its own page.
What should I do?

How to easily create GUI app (for non-programmers)?
by Valent Turkovic
Hi,
I'm looking for ways of creating simple apps and I'm not a coder. I
saw fer projects that could help me do this but would really like to
hear you if you have done something with some of them or if you have
better suggestion.
xdialog [1]
Pros: with it you can create simple UI from bash scripts, dialogs,
different lists and wizards...
Cons: "retro" looking UI, not active as a project.
zenity [2]
Pros: nice looking UI, with it you can create GUI versions of your
bash scripts, dialogs, different lists...
Cons: can't create single window wizard
autoglade [3]
Pros: most powerful of the bunch, creates GTK gui on the fly
Cons: No Fedora package?
Has anybody tried and done something with autoglade or some other?
Autoglade seams most powerful and flexible but there is no Fedora
package :(
Is there anything better but still simple to use?

Re: Linux Games for Kids
by Birger Monsen
I have kids in that range myself, and these are the results of the jury:
Get a wheel and start with tuxkart. It seems to be the biggest hit for kids that age on my linux game pc (rather old pc with decent graphics card and hi-res 24" screen).
Then there is tuxracer/ppracer/whatever. Great game that keeps changing name.
Tuxpaint is one that will keep them quiet for long periods.
Tuxtyping has also been popular for limited periods. Run with single letters it helps them learn the keyboard layout so it could be worth the hassle for helping them into the game.
Xmoto is also one to try.
A browser with flash and a quick search for the simple dress-up and coloring games would make you popular.

Connecting to a host across the internet
by Jim
FC13
Using scp HP-setup jim@70.255.149.850://home/jim , it times
out, what log could tell me why it won't connect and send the HP-setup
file to that location.
The computer at the other end is also a FC13-x86_64 box.
And the Firewall is set to allow ssh port 22 and sshd is enable an
running in services.
Don't get excited about the IP shown it is a fake and could connect you
to a computer in
Northeast Siberia .
