I think that it is a bug.... I asked this question some time ago and had
no answer!
After a lot of googleing I came accross a solution, but first: have you
a file:
/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-cd.rules
(Maybe, with another number).
If not, create one, using the command:
udevtest /sys/block/sr0
Then, normally, you have this "persistent-cd-rules" file
Reboot and see if you can automount your disks.
(With this file, the links must be "persistent", ie. they are not erased
when you insert a disk.)
I posted this solution some times ago on this list, but someone answered
that if this has been removed from f12, there were certainly a good
reason why and that I could have many side effects if I added it now!
I have absolutely no problem up to now and problem is solved for me.
Hope it will be the same for you.
Hope too that someone gives a good reason for suppressing this file in f12.

Installing F12 on Mactel
by Leon Stringer
Hi,
I've tried to install F12 on my Core 2 Duo iMac. The installation seemed
to go okay but there's no sign of Fedora when I boot. I hold down the
<Option> key and just get the MacOS partition. Is there a trick to this?
Thanks in advance,
Leon...

yes, i can see that.... ( although i have seen some potentially
misleading references to just "open source software" )

uh huh. but is there really something _called_ the "stable release"
(as opposed to...) & if so, would there be a release sufficiently
"unstable" as to "encourage collaboration and incubate innovative new
technologies"?

Sound on iMac 27", Fedora 11.
by Nick Urbanik
Dear Folks,
On this iMac, I have:
$ lspci -nn | grep -i audio
00:08.0 Audio device [0403]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 High Definition Audio [10de:0ac0] (rev b1)
02:00.1 Audio device [0403]: ATI Technologies Inc R700 Audio Device [Radeon HD 4000 Series] [1002:aa38]
No sound comes from the speakers, nor the headphone jack. pavucontrol
shows long sound bars appearing on either output device when each is made
the default, but there is no output I can hear.
Volume controls turned up fully.
$ lsmod | grep snd

1. Has anyone had success with the sound on a recent iMac?
2. Any hints or suggestions?

HP photosmart 1215 printer issues
by Howard Howell
Hi, everyone,
I am also having a printer problem. I let my printer run out of
ink
and let the messages queue up for a week, then bought the cartridges. I
plugged one in and the queue won't restart, and shows the message about
the printer being low on ink and the queue stopped.
I have also tried the tape over bits fix and repeatedly powered up and
down the system and printer in various combinations, with and without
the cable in place. I really don't want to loose the stuff in the
queue, so I am hesitant to go any farther without help.
Hplip shows the new and correct ink levels.
Cups says it has stopped the printer due to low ink, but then says the
printer doesn't report marker levels (clearly untrue because hplip finds
them)
I have finally gotten hplip to initialize the queue and show it as
accepting jobs, but I am out of ideas, out of web based solutions,
and unsure if the f12 patch will install on F11?

FPL steps down: what's the real story?
by Marcel Rieux
I've been a bit late to get to the Distrowatch weekly this week but I
finally heard about Paul Frields, the Fedora Project Leader, stepping down.
"I’m interested in branching out into other ways of championing free and
open source software at Red Hat", he says.
http://marilyn.frields.org:8080/~paul/wordpress/?p=3085
But is this really all there is to it? In a bottom note, he adds that "it
might have been difficult to figure out how to write this message" and that
he had to look "to see how our previous FPL handled the delicate matter of
succession".
About 2 weeks ago, I skimmed over an article explaining that there was some
unrest between developers or administrators as to the direction Fedora
should take. Some were for faster updates to the stable release, some for a
more stable stable release.
Frields being named by Red Hat, and Red Hat being more server than desktop
oriented, was, I believe, for using Fedora as a test bench and for faster
updates, whereas the other clan stood for competing against the likes of
Ubuntu and providing more stable releases. Whatever the case may be, Frields
kinda got caught up in the middle. Maybe he decided it was too hot to
handle?
Of course, I could study the matter myself but, my pharmacist and doctor
disagreeing on the matter, I'll have to spend a "little time" estimating the
appropriateness of prescribing IECA (Coversyl) with ARA (Cozaar) in my
peculair case. If you don't know what fun is, this looks pretty much like
it:)
So, I was wondering if somebody who followed the matter could just drop a
few lines explaing what the real story is.
TIA.
