Is the download.fedora.redhat.com down?
by William Perkins
Is there a problem with the download.fedora.redhat.com system or is
it my problem? I have been using this FTP and HTTP server for Fedora
updates for quite awhile with no problems, but several days ago it
stopped accepting connections from the system that handles package
updates for all of my servers and clients. No errors are returned,
there is just no response. It does resolve correctly in the DNS:
209.132.183.67. I can connect to this server from other systems
outside of my domain, but none of my own clients or servers can get a
connection to open on the download.fedora.redhat.com server. I can
connect to other FTP and web sites without any problems. A traceroute
gets as far as redhat-2.border1.phx004.pnap.net (69.25.121.26) and stops
there after fourteen hops.
I would appreciate some help or suggestions in resolving this problem.
Thanks,
Bill

Re: password change does not work: LDAP, sssd, nss or pam error?

Volker,
Have a look at the 389 Directory Server <http://directory.fedoraproject.org/>. I set it up on CentOS (where it is called CentOS Directory Server) and it requires some work to get up and running, but the results are worth the effort. It's simple to configure clients using the "system-config-authentication" GUI and standard functionality, such as using "passwd" to change LDAP passwords at the command line, "just works".

Best hardware for Fedora video/audio capture workstation?
by Samuel Kidman
Hello
I'm planning to save up and build a computer to record digital TV and
archive my vinyl records. Given that I want to install fedora on it, what
capture cards and audio cards other the best compatibility and best value,
and what other solutions might be available for this purpose. Also what
chipset is best? AMD/Intel? Which videocard?

AVI and gxine
by Oliver Ruebenacker
Hello,
I wanted to watch a video in AVI format. Since xine supposedly can
play AVI, I installed gxine from the Fedora repository. When I tried
to play the AVI movie, I get the message:
"Error loading library: msvidc32.dll"
Besides being surprised that a required library is missing, I find
the name odd for a Linux library. What is going on? Thanks!
Take care
Oliver

OT: dynamic -> static lib
by Terry Horsnell
Is it possible to create a static (.a) version
of a library from the dynamic (.so) one, or to
create a static executable when only shared libs
are available?

How can I stop this network scan ( cfg80211) ?
by Boggiano
I still have problems with my wlan0 on my HP HDX18.
If I don't run a ping in background I lost the connection every 30 sec
(more or less).
I see these lines in my /var/log/messages:
Oct 7 21:54:34 localhost kernel: cfg80211: Calling CRDA to update
world regulatory domain
Oct 7 21:54:34 localhost kernel: cfg80211: Calling CRDA for country: IT
Oct 7 21:54:34 localhost kernel: cfg80211: Regulatory domain changed
to country: IT
Oct 7 21:54:34 localhost kernel: (start_freq - end_freq @
bandwidth), (max_antenna_gain, max_eirp)
Oct 7 21:54:34 localhost kernel: (2402000 KHz - 2482000 KHz @
40000 KHz), (N/A, 2000 mBm)
Oct 7 21:54:34 localhost kernel: (5170000 KHz - 5250000 KHz @
40000 KHz), (N/A, 2000 mBm)
Oct 7 21:54:34 localhost kernel: (5250000 KHz - 5330000 KHz @
40000 KHz), (N/A, 2000 mBm)
Oct 7 21:54:34 localhost kernel: (5490000 KHz - 5710000 KHz @
40000 KHz), (N/A, 2700 mBm)
It sounds to me like a "scanning" of the "network situation". Is this
correct ? How can I stop it ?
I'm already using "eee80211_regdom=IT" as option of the module cfg80211.
Thanks!

help - can't boot 2.6.34
by Dr. Michael J. Chudobiak
Hi all,
My HP DC7800 with encrypted Intel SSD can boot:
kernel-2.6.33.8-149.fc13.x86_64
but not the 2.6.34 kernels like:
kernel-2.6.34.6-54.fc13.x86_64
The screen goes blank very early in the boot process, before the disk
passphrase is requested. It happens so fast that I can't read the
limited text that appears on the screen, and the disks are not mounted
for logging...
Anyway... maybe this rings a bell for someone?
Removing and re-installing the 2.6.34 kernel doesn't fix anything.
