hde: lost interrupt
by Richard Heck
I am getting a lot of kernel errors of that type:
hde: lost interrupt
on one of my servers. (This is actually CentOS, not Fedora.) The errors
are intermittent, but when they start they often will just keep coming,
and the disk has locked up a couple times completely.
Something presumably needs to be replaced, but the question is: What?
The drive is a 500GB EIDE drive, connected via a Promise Ultra 100TX2
controller to some ancient motherboard. (This is a 300MHz Pentium II,
acting as a server, including a media server.) The controller is needed
because the old mobo bios won't deal with such large drives. There's
another drive connected to the Promise, as hdf, and I'm not seeing
errors from there. So, all in all, it looks as if it's probably the
drive, even though the drive is less than a year old. But before I
replace it, I thought I'd ask and see if anyone has any other ideas.
It'll be a hassle to replace it, since it's part of a volume group, etc.
Thanks,
Richard Heck

|Don't know if it will happen to everyone, but the new
|gnome-settings-daemon goes wacko, using > 50% of the
|cpu after the latest updates pulled in a new version.
|(And the fonts look terrible in this mailer with it

I have exactly the same situation: gnome-settings-daemon eats CPU!

Moreover, I'm much more worried with another fact. It also sends
something somewhere:
http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/3783/kuvakaappaus4.png
How to stop it? I know, I can kill the process but is it 'official'
way of dealing with problems? I don't want to kill anybody after
login.

What additional information should I provide? Thanks in advance!

install Eclipse plugins in home folder
by Christoph Höger
Hi,
in the good old days there used to be a plugins/ folder somewhere inside
~/.eclipse .
One could put plugins in this folder and they worked.
For f11 (eclipse 3.4) I cannot find this folder anymore. Any ideas where
it has gone?
Also /usr/{share,lib}/eclipse/{dropins,plugins}/ did not work out.
Anybody, please?

Wanted: rpm for GraphicsMagick
by Colin Paul Adams
If I do:
yum install GraphicsMagick
it attempts to install 1.1.14, which is really ancient.
I need 1.3.3 at the very least (I think stable is 1.3.7). Does anyone
have an rpm available for this? There is a .src.rpm on the sourceforge
site, but I can't install this (rpmbuild --rebuild fails with obscure
error message - googling doesn't help).

Update to 2.6.30.5-43.fc11.i586 duplex problem
by Anton Buenavista
Recently updated kernel to 2.6.30.5-43.fc11.i586 and now my Fedora
system won't boot up.
It boots up to the splash screen after which I am greeted with an "alt1
0000:02:00.0: eth0 link is up 100 Mbps full duplex" on my screen. It
stops there and I am unable to do anything but restart. The old kernels
still work. Can anyone advise on how I can remedy this?
