Backing out an upgrade
by Bill Davidsen
I was trying a rawhide kernel to see if it would address a video problem. It
did, but pulled in dependencies which didn't work, resulting in many selinux
denials of udev, missing devices, and things which convince me rawhide is not
even in alpha shape. After a few hours I finally tried to revert udev, selinux,
selinux-policy*, and policy*. No matter how I tried I couldn't get yum to
downgrade just those things. Yes I had the downgrade and other extensions loaded
in yum, but it was either going to remove the entire set of all software or nothing.
I did downgrade the kernel, erase some things I could easily reinstall, but none
of the tricks I used on previous similar issues helped. I finally esed the yum
shell to do the erase with leaves, and then an install of the minimum toolset.
However, even though the yum was still fc11, the erase took everything out yum
needed to do the install.
The cold reinstall is running, I took a brief try of fc12 alpha, same issue with
not creating devices, and something else is now being installed on that system.
Just a note to people who might be trying rawhide, just installing the kernel
appears to bring in enough cruft to leave the system unusable.

Re: [fedora-java] Problem w/ setting Sun's JVM via (g)alternatives?

Eclipse works just fine with OpenJDK.
I've spoken with Dan offline and while I don't have confirmation, I
suspect he was bitten by the fact that the XULRunner APIs changed
post-Eclipse 3.4 (Ganymede) release so out of the box on Fedora 11,
Eclipse 3.4 will crash when trying to render the welcome page (and other
browser-using bits).
In our Fedora packages of Eclipse 3.4.2, we carry a patch from upstream
to work with the latest XULRunner APIs. Eclipse 3.5 (aka Galileo) works
with the latest XULRunner APIs so this is will no longer be necessary in
Fedora 12.

need a copy of /etc/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage.rules
by daniel shi
hi guys,
i have a usb mount problem, according to,
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=478679, the probable solution
for me is to modify the /etc/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage.rules,. it
exists on fedora 8, but im using fedora 10, which doesn't have this file.
so, if you are running fedora 8, would you please send me a copy, really
appreciate that. thanks in advance.

what hath yum wrought?
by Tom Horsley
My system at work runs:
yum -y --downloadonly update
in cron every night, and every day I find this in the mail:
/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/yum/packages.py:413: UnicodeWarning: Unicode unequal comparison failed to convert both arguments to Unicode - interpreting them as being unequal
if reqn != n:
My system at home runs the same command in cron, and no such mail
appears.
Also at work, if I run yum in a terminal, I don't see any
such message.
Any clues why this happens (and if it is important or not :-)?

help
by Brian Bentley
I installed fedora 11 and I can't get online. It detects the Internet connection and says it is established but firefox will not connect neither will the system update. Is there something I need to do in the terminal to make it go online. I have a dsl connection. I had to revert back to ubuntu to get online. Any help would be appreciated.

HDA Intel sound card problem
by dariusz rojewski
Hello everybody,
i don't have any idea how can i fix it. As i said I have HDA Intel sound
card:
Codec: STAC92HD73*
lspci: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev 03)
aplay -l:
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog]
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#0: Codec: IDT 92HD75B2X5
I've tried everything :) I added to /etc/modprobe.d/dist.conf 'options
snd-hda-intel model=dell-m6' line (dell-m6 is for codec STAC92HD73*), but it
still doesn't work.
(nothing is muted of course) :)
any ideas? thanks.
