How to change default page size in Firefox to A4
by Andrea
Hi,
I would like to set the default page size in firefox to A4,
but there seems to be no way of doing it.
Each time the page size is reset to US Letter.
CUPS has a default page size of A4 and all other application (okular, evince...) honour it.
Forgot to say, I'm on Fedora 11, Firefox 3.5.1

Abnormal disk access
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
Since I installed fedora 11 x86_64, I do periodically (every 15-20 mn)
disque access even when the machine is at rest. It does not appear
that the machine should swap (the memory is not full at all).
The major incovenient is that it also froze the machine without
clear increase of the CPU (again the machine is at rest).
I do not see what could cause this. I never appear on the
same machine before in i686 (I just set a brand new disk).
What could cause this problem ?

vmware server 2.0.1 + F11: no network connection between host and guest
by public@boris-glawe.de
Hi,
Is anybody successfully running vmware 2.0.1 on an x86_64 machine?
My guest is a windows XP SP3 machine, firewall off. I have the same
problem with a Centos5.x guest and an opensolaris guest.
My problem ist that there's no network connection between host an guest.
The behaviour is the same as it is reported here:
http://communities.vmware.com/thread/204158
summarized: The guest gets an IP-Adress from vmware's dhcpd (no I don't
have another dhcpd running), and when trying to connect from the guest
to any service of the host machine, the host receives arp requests,
answers with arp responses, which on turn oviously do not arrivem as the
guest machine continues to send arp request. I've verified this
behaviour by tracking the network traffic with wireshark.
It does not work with hostonly networking, nat networking nor with
bridged networking.
I should mention, that I had to apply the saarlinux patches, in order to
make the vmware kernel modules to compile at all.
Thank you very much

Re: Fedora 11 installation on Thinkpad X31- Unstable tsc
by Nguyen Duy Phuong
Thanks for your reply. Sorry don't understand vanilla kernel. X31 deso not have cd rom and does not support booting from usb flash drive, only usb diskette and usb cd rom, both I don't have. I have XP already installed. I copied the vmlinuz0 and initrd from F11 LiveCD iso to C:/boot, the grldr and menu.lst from Grub for Dos 0.4.4 to C:/boot and C:/boot/grub correspondingly. boot.ini and menu.lst were revised a little bit as usual and then I rebooted. Got stuck at unstable tsc as described. If the liveCD does not support my laptop will the full version (will buy external cd rom if necessary though not preferrably. BTW could not find full version of F11) or another distro like ubuntu, suse etc. work?

Fresh install, or a fresh install with a vanilla kernel?
make sure ext4 is compiled in the kernel
(just sat for a few yours wondering why my system wasn't
booting!! ended up being just as simple as that)
If you have not done anything to the internals then it could be the arch
of the cd, or maybe the livecd itself has no support for your machine
i.g. I'm noticing my imac with the 130 graphics card results in a black screen
(cant even install fedora on that machne!!)

I guess Fedora is OK for servers
by Bruno Wolff III
I found the following quote from a LWN article insteresting:
Internally, kernel.org runs on ten "disgustingly nice" machines donated by HP. John was strong in his praise of HP and ISC (which provides the bulk of the considerable bandwidth used by kernel.org); without them, kernel.org would not function the way it does. Beyond ISC, there are a couple of machines hosted at the OSU open source lab and one at Umeå University in Sweden. A lengthy process has finally gotten all of these machines upgraded to Fedora 9 - just in time, John noted wryly, for Fedora to end support for that distribution. So another round of upgrades in in the works for the near future.
I wouldn't have expected the kernel.org servers to be running Fedora.
In the comments (http://lwn.net/Articles/341826/#Comments) someone asks
why they are using Fedora, but there doesn't seem to be an answer to that.

F10: DVD drive closes by itself
by Misha Shnurapet
On Fedora 10 my DVD drives close trays almost immediately after they
have been opened with software means. I say drives because I have tried
on two different DVD-RW devices.
The one I have now installed on my machine does not close when I press
the hardware button. But when Brasero opens the tray (or when I click
the Eject button in Nautilus or select the option out of the context
menu), it shuts back hardly have I managed to take out the media! :D
Was there a feature introduced last two months? :) I would like to
recover. :)

Help, lost kernel
by Uno Engborg
Hi, somehow I managed lose all my installed kernels, (Fedora 11 system)
Whats the best way to restore it?
Would it be possible to boot from a live CD, download a new kernel,
mount the filsystem from my computer in the LiveCD environment, and then
somehow make rpm install the kernel on the mounted disk?
There is some --relocate option in rpm, anybody have any idea if that
would work?
Thanks!

Fedora 11 installation on Thinkpad X31- Unstable tsc
by Nguyen Duy Phuong
Hi, I am a newbie to Linux. Have tried F11 hard disk based installation unsuccessfully on my X31 for the 5th day. After choosing grub at boot (Windows XP is still functional) the insatallation hangs at
firewire_core: created device fw0...
clocksource tsc unstable (delta=-255137765 ns)
Have tried to add to the kernel line in menu.lst either "highres=off ohz=off irqpoll", or "clocksource=hpet", "clocksource=acpi_pm", or "clocksource=jiffies", or "acpi=off", etc. to no avail. vmlinuz0, init.
I wonder if you can please help. Cheers.
