grubby recieved SIGSEGV! Backtrace (6):
by Justin P. Mattock
After a nice install, and compiling of the latest git
everything went smoothly.
Then I decided to recompile the kernel with
fedoras .config instead of mine.
went pretty good, but then after I went in and removed
the old System.map, and vmlinuz from my initial install
(then make install etc..)
this appeared:
sudo make install:
sh /home/name/packages/kernel/2.6.31/arch/x86/boot/install.sh
2.6.31-rc4-00295-g608ae20 arch/x86/boot/bzImage \
System.map "/boot"
grubby recieved SIGSEGV! Backtrace (6):
/sbin/grubby[0x40793f]
/lib64/libc.so.6[0x3674833370]
/sbin/grubby[0x40211c]
/sbin/grubby[0x407392]
/lib64/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xfd)[0x367481ea2d]
/sbin/grubby[0x4018f9]
seems to be broken after this.
Any ideas?

Samba - veto on home folder
by Arun Shrimali
Dear All,
How can I use the veto option for the user, such that users could not
save *.mp3 files in there home folder.
My home folder part of conf file is as follows :
[homes]
revalidate = yes
comment = Home Directories
writeable = yes
veto files =
/*.deb/*.rpm/*.mp3/*.mp4/*.dat/*.mpg/*.mpeg/*.avi/*.wmv/*.iso/*.nrg/*.bin/*.cue/*.exe/*.msi/*.dll/*.pif/*.scr/*.ini/*.bat/*.com/*.cmd/*.vb/*.vbs/*.inf/*.3gp/*.mov/*.rar/*.flv/DSC*.jpg/DSC*.jpeg/
delete veto files = yes
valid users = MYDOMAIN\%S
But still user can copy mp3 files in there home folders, than I added
the veto option in global section also as follows :
[global]
server string = new databank
smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd
passdb backend = tdbsam
log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m
max log size = 50
delete veto files = Yes
veto files =
/*.deb/*.rpm/*.mp3/*.mp4/*.dat/*.mpg/*.mpeg/*.avi/*.wmv/*.iso/*.nrg/*.bin/*.cue/*.exe/*.msi/*.dll/*.pif/*.scr/*.ini/*.bat/*.com/*.cmd/*.vb/*.vbs/*.inf/*.3gp/*.mov/*.rar/*.flv/DSC*.jpg/DSC*.jpeg/
Can anybody help me how to restrict users from saving mp3 files in
there home folders .......................

wpa_supplicant craps out under heavy load
by Justin P. Mattock
I've noticed this with ubuntu about a year ago,
and now I see this with redhat(fedora)
under wpa_supplicant.log I see:
CTRL-EVENT-CONNECTED - Connection to xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx completed (auth)
[id=0 id_str=]
CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED - Disconnect event - remove keys
Trying to associate with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (SSID='XX' freq=2422 MHz)
Association request to the driver failed
Associated with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

Trying to associate with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (SSID='XX' freq=2422 MHz)
Association request to the driver failed
Associated with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
the above is caused probably all the time, but not noticeable until
heavy load.
The system becomes vary sluggish, hulu craps out, radio craps out
(not fun)...
After disabling NetworkManager and compiling wpa_supplicant from
the source(using the default .config they supply for compiling)
wpa_supplicant looks like this:
[name@name wpa_supplicant]$
sudo /home/name/Sources/wpa_supplicant-0.6.9/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant -Dwext -ieth1 -c /home/name/wpa
CTRL-EVENT-SCAN-RESULTS
Trying to associate with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (SSID='XX' freq=2422 MHz)
ioctl[SIOCSIWAP]: Device or resource busy
Association request to the driver failed
Associated with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
CTRL-EVENT-CONNECTED - Connection to xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx completed (auth)
[id=0 id_str=]
still shows some errors, but I'm able to stream music, plus watch movies
without having a sluggish system, nor having stuckage of internet.
I would file a bug, but there probably already is, since this is
something I've seen for some time now right!

iDisk from Fedora?
by SternData
I've got my iDisk mounted from Windows and it appears to be a simple
webdav mounting. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3264
When I attempt to connect from Places as http webdav, I get Could not
open location 'dav://xxxx@idisk.me.com/' Not a WebDAV enabled share
Has anyone figured this one out?

2 firefox 3.5.1 issues
by Paolo Galtieri
I have 2 issues with the latest firefox on F11. The first is every time I
start up firefox I get a tab that is a listing of the contents of my home
directory. I have firefox configured to start up with the tabs from last
time. No matter what I do I always get this tab. The second issue is I
cannot get the 64bit flash player plugin from Adobe for firefox to generate
sound. If I run the 32bit version of firefox 3.0.11 and use the 32 bit
flash plugin that comes from F11 firefox crashes immediately. Has anyone
else had problems with firefox 3.5 and gotten sound to work with flash?
Thanks

Domain of sender address ... does not resolve
by Bill Davidsen
I just did a new FC9 (fully updated) install, and it regularly rejects outgoing
mail with the subject error message. The address does resolve, of course, so I'm
not sure what it means instead of what it says.
The nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf are the authoritative DNS for the domain,
both are up, etc.
Someone have a clue?

Thanks Peter.
I went back and saw the "option" to configure packages. For the next release this needs to be made bigger and separated away from the repo modifications. I thought this was part of the repo setup.

F11 installation w/o journaling fs
by Andras Simon
I'm trying to install F11 on a first generation eeepc. The usual
way (live-cd via a pendrive) doesn't work now unless the root fs
is ext4. I'd like to avoid a journaling fs, because this thing
has an ssd (and a fairly small one at that). Is a network install
my only option? Or can I switch off journaling in ext4
completely, so it becomes as ssd-friendly as ext2 is? A quick
googling tells me that even mounting an ext4 fs with
data=writeback mode, it does metadata journaling. I don't know
how much stress (and space) that is on an ssd.
