F10: grub won't boot, beeps instead
by Colin Brace
Hi all,
This afternoon I went to reboot my F10 system, and after the usual BIOS
initializations, it now hangs when it should boot Grub; "GRUB" is displayed
and the system just starts beeping incessantly.
I dug out the F9 rescue disk, and it was able to mount the system normally
under /mnt/sysinstall, so there should be no problem with my file systems.
Poking around /boot/grub, Menu.lst was last updated on 29 May, probably the
date I installed the latest kernel (I hadn't rebooted after doing that). To
my untrained eye, menu.lst looks OK.
At this point, I'd welcome suggestions on how to proceed further.
FWIW:
boot = /dev/sdc1
root = /dev/sdc2
usr = /dev/sdc3
home = /dev/sdc6
Thanks

Downgrading hplip?
by Tom Horsley
Just curious: Anyone know if it is possible to downgrade the newest
version of hplip that will be in fedora 11 to the old version
from fedora 10? Looks like the new version has lost the ability
to set the media tray correctly :-(.
https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/63943
Just wondering if lots of things depend on hplip or if it is
pretty much stand alone and could be replaced without also
involving all of cups and sane, etc? (I suppose I'll find out
when I try, but just wonder if it is worth trying).

Fedoraproject certificate bad??
by Beartooth
(followups set to the Fedora list; the Galeon one seems intent on
emulating the proverbial doornail.)
When I try to connect with
https://fedoraproject.com/wiki/SIGs/FedoraMini
using Epiphany, I get a warning with a button, which enables me to accept
the ostensibly bad certificate; but when I try with Galeon, I get the
warning without the button, and with a very unhelpful suggestion instead.
Galeon's reaction looks like this :
Secure Connection Failed
fedoraproject.com uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is only valid for fedoraproject.org
(Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)
* This could be a problem with the server's configuration, or it
could be someone trying to impersonate the server.
* If you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the
error may be temporary, and you can try again later.
Or you can add an exception…
You should not add an exception if you are using an internet connection
that you do not trust completely or if you are not used to seeing a
warning for this server.
If you still wish to add an exception for this site, you can do so in
your advanced encryption settings.
<sarcasm mode on>
Yaaa, shuuure. Maybe if you have the magic ring and know the
secret magic code; I sure couldn't.
<sarcasm mode off>
Actually, if the condition claimed by both Epiphany (which did
take me to the site when I insisted) and Galeon (which failed) is in fact
the case, then the real trouble is an oversight in the fedoraproject wiki
-- and perhaps thus correctible by someone on this list.

EeePC - Fedora or Ubuntu?
by Timothy Murphy
I've got rather annoyed with the Xandros on my EeePC-4G,
and am thinking of installing a different OS.
I would like to install Fedora,
as I am running Fedora or CentOS on all my other machines,
but I'm attracted by the fact that there is
a version of Ubuntu (eeebuntu)
apparently specifically for the EeePC.
I suppose there isn't an eeeFedora?
Does anyone have an argument for installing Fedora
on this very small machine?

Fixing heading sequences in oowriter 3
by Gary Stainburn
Hi folks,
I have a document that I have been working on for a long time now, and I have
a problem with the headings in it.
I used Heading 1 through to Heading 4, and as I've written the document all
seemed fine.
However, when I now go back and add another section (heading 4 followed by
Text body), I get either one of two problems.
1) the heading seems to be more indented, and started from sequence 1 again
or
2) stays on the correct indentation, but not with the right sequence.
This happened even more if for example I add a section into the middle of a
number of existing heading 4 sections.
My questions are,
1) how do I make it so that oowriter inserts the new header 4 correctly
2) How do I make oowriter re-sequence the ones that are already written

I chose my ISP on quality of service, knowing that they are not cheap. In a
recent survey they scored high marks on all counts, but in the summary were
marked way down. Reason? They said that they are too expensive.
I agree that VOIP will be one attractor, but I'm not so sure that people will
be willing to pay extra to get it. It seems that most people want everything
for nothing, or as near to it as they can get.

Gnome keyring password prompt on login
by Neil Bird
Any ideas why my Fedora 10 desktop login prompts for a GNOME keyring
password on login (which I've manually set at some point) and my F10 laptop
doesn't (or at least, no longer does: I think it used to)?
Is it defaulting (on the laptop) to locking the default keyring with my
a/c password? Is it, in fact, no longer password protected? How can I
tell? (when accessing WiFi passwords)

config network-manager
by François Patte
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Bonjour,
I know! Network-manager takes care of you and thinks for you.... and
there is no reason why you may want to configure it.
Anyway, at home I have my network with cables, switch and server and I
*want* to connect my laptop on it but there are so many "free" wifi
around than network-manager, without any question, chooses to connect
first my computer to the Internet using my neighbour wifi.....
How can change this and definitely tell network-manager that it can
connect to a wifi *only if I ask it to do so!*
Thanks for helping.
