Kerberos login problem
by Braden McDaniel
I've tried to follow the instructions on this page:
http://aput.net/~jheiss/krbldap/howto.html
... but I haven't been able to get Kerberos login to work.
"kinit username/admin" appears to work. And I edited /etc/shadow to
change my password to *K* (as described on that page under "Kerberos
Clients") and used authconfig-tui to add Kerberos authentication. But I
cannot log into the machine (at the terminal or using ssh).
/etc/pam.d/system-auth looks like this:
#%PAM-1.0
# This file is auto-generated.
# User changes will be destroyed the next time authconfig is run.
auth required pam_env.so
auth sufficient pam_unix.so nullok try_first_pass

Mobile Braodband (GSM) on fc9 i686 laptop
by Gregory P. Ennis
Dear List,
I just received a gift from my wife of a Verizon mobile broadband (GSM)
usb modem. Unfortunately all of the documentation is for the inferior
MS platform.
I have plugged it into my usb port and nm-tool recognizes it as :
Device ----ttyACM0-----
Type : Mobile Broadband (GSM)
Driver : cdc_acm
State : disconnected
Default: no
I have tried calling Verizon about connecting to Linux, but have only
waded through the first layer of responders that were not aware of
Linux.
Have any of you used these with Fedora? Can you point me in the
direction of a "how to" or is there an easy switch to toggle.
Thanks in advance !!!!

problem with latest texlive 2009 rpms from Jindrich Novy
by George Avrunin
I'm trying this version of texlive 2009 under Fedora 11. I just updated
(now at texlive-2009-1.20091107.fc11.x86_64), and pdflatex is producing A4
pages instead of letter ones. I reran both texconfig and texconfig-sys
and set the paper size to letter, but it doesn't seem to be taking effect.
Until today's update, I was getting letter paper. (This is an update
*after* the one that removed /usr/share/texlive.)
/usr/share/texlive/texmf-config/tex/generic/config/pdftexconfig.tex correctly says
% Set pdfTeX parameters for pdf mode (replacing pdftex.cfg file).
% Thomas Esser, 2004. public domain.
\pdfoutput=1
\pdfcompresslevel=9
\pdfdecimaldigits=3
\pdfpagewidth=8.5 true in
\pdfpageheight=11 true in
\pdfhorigin=1 true in
\pdfvorigin=1 true in
\pdfpkresolution=600
\endinput
and "kpsewhich pdftexconfig" points to that file. There's nothing in
~/.texlive2009/texmf-config.
Presumably I've screwed something up in the course of my update, but I
don't have any idea what. Has anybody else seen this?

FC11- getting message about 'battery broken'
by Robert Moskowitz
I am running gnome and when I log in I get:
Battery may be broken
Your battery has a very low capacity (2%) , which means that it may be
old or broken.
Now I did not get anything like this with FC10 on the system and it
would run a number hours on battery.
How do I check this out?
Oh, the system is an ASUS ee701 with a 4Gb SDD drive and a 8Gb SD card.

Dell Latitude Suspend/Restore
by Dave Cross
I have a Dell Latitude M1330. Originally it was running F10 and I
upgraded it to F11 some months ago using preupgrade. Everything
continued to work well. Including suspend/resume.
Recently, for reasons too boring to go into, I trashed this
installation and started again. I booted from an F11 Live image on a
USB stick and installed from there to the hard disk.
Most things still work fine, but suspend/restore has stopped working.
Well, suspend seems to work ok, but restore doesn't. I now have to
reboot the laptop each time I want to use it.
My suspicion is that the Live image doesn't include an RPM that I was
getting from my old F10 installation. But this is an area that I know
nothing about and I'd appreciate any advice on how to track down and
fix this issue.
Cheers,
Dave...

Wine or Fedora display problem?
by Beartooth
I'm running Garmin Mapsource in Wine under F11.
When I clicked on Help and told it to check for updates, it did
downloads of 6.15.6.0 for about a minute, then popped up another window
telling me to click on an Install button -- but Wine or Fedora 11 or
something fails to display the button, and hitting Enter instead doesn't
work either.
rpm -q wine
wine-1.1.29-1.fc11.i586
I closed the app, did a Wine boot, and tried again. This time it
popped up a different message, saying there was trouble accessing the
downloaded files.
I closed the app again, and did another Wine boot. It did the
download over -- and then got the other error again.
This has happened three or four times in a row, each, with
MetroGuideUSA and with Topo2008 in the display. I posted the problem to
the Wine list, and got no replies. I tried on alt.satellite.gps.garmin,
and got none there either. Maybe it's a Fedora problem???
Is there a fix?

Why can't I launch qgis??
by Beartooth
I have
[btth@Hbsk2 ~]$ rpm -q qgis
qgis-1.0.2-1.fc11.i586
[btth@Hbsk2 ~]$
or equivalent on all four of the Fedora 11 PCs on my desk -- and none of
them can seem to launch it. Not with the GUI (by clicking the launcher,
which shows a Q transfixed by an arrow pointing NE), nor yet from the CLI
(by commanding "qgis &" as user or as root).
Any guesses why not?
There is a little more detail at
http://forum.qgis.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4969
but no answer there, either.
