mysterious google-gears error
by Aaron Konstam
About half the time after starting firefox-3.5.5-1.fc11.i586
I get this error boox oon the screen:
"Google Gears" could not be installed because it is not compatible
with your Firefox build type (Linux_x86-gcc3). Please contact the
author of this item about the problem.
What does this mean and how do I get rid of it?

Lo! F11 dependency hell
by Beartooth
What is it with libnetfilter_conntrack.so.1()(64bit) and
iptstate-2.2.1-5.fc11.x86_64 (fedora)??
On two machines -- one on my desk, using gpk-update-viewer, and
one downstairs on my wife's, using yum update under ssh (and trying all
suggestions, plus yum remove and you install) -- I hit catch-22.

anyone install android 2.0 sdk on 64-bit fedora?
by Robert P. J. Day
given the first release of android 2.0, has anyone out there
successfully installed that on a 64-bit fedora? specifically, fedora
11 or (hopefully equivalently) fedora 12 beta.
i'm just about to give it a shot, but it would be nice to know that
someone else has already done it and identified any glitches hidden in
the install instructions:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
based on a quick perusal, it would seem that open jdk is now
compatible (whereas it didn't used to be), and one still has to
install the minimal packages for 32-bit compatibility. in any event,
if someone else has already done this, that would be awesome.

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: package-cleanup --problems
package-cleanup --dupes
rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
Should I wait until some miracle with mirrors?

32-bit firefox on x86_64, how?
by Erik P. Olsen
I plan to build 64-bit fedora 12 but I am having problem installing Sun's java
plugin on firefox, so I wonder if I could run 32-bit firefox on a 64-bit system.
And how do I go about installing this firefox together with various plugins?

Slow Performance w/ Google Earth
by Charlie McVeigh
Starting about a month ago Goggle Earth started running so slowly that
it is virtually unusable - prior to this I never had any performance
issues with GE. On my dual core system, one CPU tends to stay maxed out
at 100% utilization and it will take 45-60 seconds to display the
startup globe. Once up, zooming in or moving around are so painfully
slow that you just give up and close the application.
Here are some of my particulars:
i) Lenvo Thinkpad T61, with Fedora 11 x86_64 up to date. nVIDIA Quadro
NVS 140M graphics with kmod-nvidia drivers up to date. GLXgears = 4379
frames per second performance.
ii) I have uninstalled and re-installed Google Earth several times and
I experience the same slowness with both versions 4.3 and 5.1 of Google
Earth.
iii) Per advice from Googling for suggestions I have turned "atmosphere"
off in GE.
iv) When starting GE from the command line I get the following Error:
Error: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 190.42,
but this NVIDIA driver component has version 190.25. Please make
sure that the kernel module and all NVIDIA driver components
have the same version.
I am wondering if I have some sort of library mismatch between x86_64
and i586 versions of RPMs that are installed on my machine.
Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this problem would be most
appreciated.
