Why is there no 32 bit version of firefox available for 64bit F12?
by Paolo Galtieri
I'm having strange behaviour with 64bit firefox and the 64bit beta version
of Adobe flash. So I want to try the 32bit version of firefox with the
32bit flash from Adobe, but there in 32 bit version of firefox available
through the 64bit repositories. If I try the 32bit version of firefox from
firefox.com it crashes all the time running the 32bit Adobe flash.
The problem I'm having is this: I have a subscription to safari books
online, when I login to safari in one tab and start reading a book, I can
read the contents without a problem, but if I bring up a second tab, login
to safari and start reading another book the page is blank. Safari uses
flash to display the book's contents. Even if I bring up the same book in
the second tab the contents are blank.
There is a comment of the safari books on line site that indicates possible
issues with 64bit firefox/flash so how do I download a 32bit version to
test?

problem with sch_teql and tc
by Glen Ogilvie
Hi,
I am having some interesting problems getting teql to work, on both Fedora
12 64 bit, and Mandriva 2010.0, yet it works ok for me on RHEL4 and Centos
5.3, 32 bit.
What I am seeing happening is that the interface appears to come up, can ping
it's local address, but not the IP address of the other machine, and it does
not even send an arp request. Yet arping does work for the other machine's IP
if I run arping by hand. So, I am thinking maybe something in TC or the
kernel is the problem.
Has anyone here tested teql interfaces with Fedora 12 64 bit?
I would appreciate any suggestions, as have been trying to figure this out
for some time without much progress.
Regards
Glen Ogilvie
PS: If someone else would like to try teql, it would be, My tests are:
Machine 1:
service iptables stop
modprobe sch_teql
ifconfig eth0 up 192.168.20.1
ifconfig eth1 up 192.168.30.1
ifconfig teql0
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root teql0
tc qdisc add dev eth1 root teql0
ip link set dev teql0 up
ifconfig eth0 txqueuelen 1000
ifconfig eth1 txqueuelen 1000
ifconfig teql0 txqueuelen 1000
ip addr add dev teql0 192.168.50.1/24
echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/eth0/rp_filter
echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/eth1/rp_filter
Machine 2:
service iptables stop
modprobe sch_teql
ifconfig eth0 up 192.168.20.2
ifconfig eth1 up 192.168.30.2
ifconfig teql0
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root teql0
tc qdisc add dev eth1 root teql0
ip link set dev teql0 up
ifconfig eth0 txqueuelen 1000
ifconfig eth1 txqueuelen 1000
ifconfig teql0 txqueuelen 1000
ip addr add dev teql0 192.168.50.2/24
echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/eth0/rp_filter
echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/eth1/rp_filter
Then try and ping between the machines using the 192.168.50.x addresses.

PYQT Binding errors with Eric
by Tim and Alison Bentley
Is anyone else have problems with PYQT4, Eric and Phonon after the KDE 4.3.3
upgrade?
I have patched the latest version of PYQT4 from testing and things are a bit
better but I still have issues?
I have a Bugzilla (541685) raised but wonder if it is only me!

Fedora12 on Acer Aspire 6930
by Marco Crosio
Hi people,
i have just installed fedora 12 on my acer Aspire 6930, and everything
go fine... (overwriting a perfectly running Fedora11 :) )
but when i reboot the machine it taken very long times to complete the
boot procedure...
so i have installed bootchart, to look where it takes so long...
you could look at it here
"http://dl.dropbox.com/u/313729/bootchart_tegamino.png"
so it seems that my kernel losses for mor than 70 seconds looking for
someting... (more if bootchart is not installed...)
so i wached dmesg... in seach for tips...
there seem to be an HPET timer problem...
could somone help???

Upgrading from FC8 to F12 - please help
by Andrew Junev
Hello All,
I tried to upgrade my old machine running Fedora Core 8 to the shiny
new Fedora 12 using 'preupgrade'. I know this isn't a recommended
method, but I thought I would still try - as it went just fine on a
test machine with a similar configuration.
I have 4 disks on my main machine: 2x200Gb are mirrored (RAID1) using
a cheap Promise controller card (they were still visible as separate
disks in FC8: /dev/sda and /dev/sdb), and other 2x1Tb drives are
connected directly to the motherboard (/dev/sdc and /dev/sdd).
Everywhere LVM is used (well, it was almost a default install of Fedora 8).
My system was on /dev/sda (or /dev/sdb, which is basically the same).
Two terabyte drives were used as data-disks only.
Within my old system, 'preupgrade' ran without visible errors. Then I
restarted the system, adding 'upgradeany' parameter in grub (otherwise
it won't find a target drive - same was on the test machine as well).
My boot options in grub look like this:
kernel /upgrade/vmlinuz preupgrade repo=hd::/var/cache/yum/preupgrade
stage2=hd:UUID=<probably a disk ID in LVM>:/upgrade/install.img
ks=hd:UUID=<same UUID as before>:/upgrade/ks.cfg upgradeany
It booted to the upgrade image and notified me that it can't
initialize /dev/sda and /dev/sdb, which are (according to the
error message) 1Tb each! So it says that it couldn't initialize my
data drives - Ok, I thought that I could deal with that later.
So I ignored the message and then got next error:
"Unable to read package metadata...
<skip>
Cannon retrieve repository metadata (repmod.xml) for repository:
anaconda-InstallationRepo-200911081854.i386. Please verify its path
and try again."
I searched for the file and it's actually at:
/mnt/sysimage/var/cache/yum/
But that's probably not where installer expects it to be...
Here's output of df -k (copied it by hand, sorry for a bad
spacing):
Filesystem Used Available Mounted on
/dev 204 508876 /dev
none 119076 390004 /tmp
/dev/loop0 118912 0 /mnt/runtime
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00
3808856 23013188 /mnt/sysimage
/dev/mapper/pdc_eceihagjhp1
164366 20037 /mnt/sysimage/boot
/dev 204 508876 /mnt/sysimage/dev
/dev/tmpfs 0 509080 /mnt/sysimage/dev/shm
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol02
4756984 145787384 /mnt/sysimage/storage
Looks like my filesystem is somehow mounted, although I'm not sure if
I should also have 'VolGroup00-LogVol01' somewhere as well...
As my installation couldn't continue, I decided to 'exit installer'
and reboot to my previous system. But my old system is now not
available as well. It starts to boot, shows something regarding LVM
(like it found a drive) and then shows a lot of lines:
/bin/sh invalid option --n
and stops with a login prompt. I can't login either - after I enter a
username it waits for some seconds and then brings a new login
prompt again...
Well, I know I did something wrong, and I don't know what it is. But I
would really like to bring my system back - either in Fedora 12 or
Fedora 8. Is there a way to do it, without reinstalling the whole
system from scratch (there are some valuable data, especially on the
1Tb drives)...?
I apologise for such a messy description. If there's anything I can
provide or clarify - let me know how I could do it.
I would really appreciate any hints on how to get my system back...

Prius Gas Mileage
by Jonathan Ryshpan
The gas mileage on my Prius has slowly declined from about 40 mpg when I
bought it in 2005 (2d hand, it's a 2004 model year) to about 35 mpg
today. Has anyone else noticed this?
Any ideas why? It could, of course, be just that I'm paying less
attention to driving for good gas mileage, or have let the pressure in
the tires go down, but I don't think so.
Thanks - jon

That's really a stupid thing to occur. I've seen that sort of thing back in
F5 or so when trying to configure the display. Nothing shows up on the
remote VNC session but the GUI tool pops up on the directly connected
console screen. Seems like remote VNC sessions have a lot of "issues" that
don't seem to get fixed over time. I guess not many people run a GUI desktop
remotely.

Yeah, me too. Been up since midnight last night till now, around 3 PM,
messing with this system.

Re: Why is there no 32 bit version of firefox available for 64bit F12?
by Callum Scott
Hi Paulo,
Have you had a look at the Firefox bug list? I have recently noticed similar
behaviour with other Flash apps in FF3.5 on a 32bit Fedora 11 install.
Though I tend to mess around with my box more than I should, I assumed it
was me and haven't seriously looked into this. Though you symptoms seem
staggeringly simmilar to mine.
Cheers
Callum

I'm having strange behaviour with 64bit firefox and the 64bit beta version

32bit flash from Adobe, but there in 32 bit version of firefox available
through the 64bit repositories. If I try the 32bit version of firefox from
firefox.com it crashes all the time running the 32bit Adobe flash.
The problem I'm having is this: I have a subscription to safari books
online, when I login to safari in one tab and start reading a book, I can
read the contents without a problem, but if I bring up a second tab, login
to safari and start reading another book the page is blank. Safari uses
flash to display the book's contents. Even if I bring up the same book in
the second tab the contents are blank.
There is a comment of the safari books on line site that indicates possible
issues with 64bit firefox/flash so how do I download a 32bit version to
test?
