13. Re: FC9 NetworkManager & WPA (Tim)
by Leon Vergottini
Hi
I had the same problem the other day. After choosing it manually from
lists of available authentication methods it worked - as the other guy
says, make sure the router is configured with WPA. I have noticed that
I had to try several times before it connected. So if it does not
connect the first time, try again. It will authenticate eventually and
once it gets that done it will be fine.
Yip, Dlink router is a real bastard. I have set up for my parents home
and it works fine.

Adobe Flash only works sometimes
by Lonni J Friedman
Greetings,
I've got a few Fedora9(x86) systems with Adobe's flash plugin
installed. For most websites, the flash plugin works just fine
(Youtube, etc). However, there are some websites where flash doesn't
work at all. When I end up at a website where its not working, I have
a big white square where the flash content should be, or sometimes, I
get a nasty error that I need to install Flash.
>From what I can tell, this appears to be due to some mime-type
handling retardation in Firefox3. If I go to Edit -> Preferences ->
Applications, there are two different entries for Flash, "Flash video"
and "SWF file". The "SWF file" entry is auto-populated with "Use
Shockwave Flash", however the "Flash video" entry keeps defaulting to
"Movie player (default)", and Shockwave Flash isn't even a choice in
the menu.
I've (re)installed Firefox-2.x for debugging purposes, and the same
exact flash plugin works perfectly there, so this has to be something
specific to firefox 3.
Anyone run across this?

corrupted ISOs, or wrong SHA1SUMs ??
by SCHAER Frederic
Hi,
Willing to tryout few virtualisations solutions in fedora, I downloaded the DVD ISO yesterday.
Just to be on the safe side, I checked the SHA1 sums : surprinsigly, there was an error, and verification failed. So, I went to another mirror, and downloaded a new DVD image. I checked it : verification failed.
Now, I just saw the warnings from fedora stating some servers had suffered unauthorised logins, and I'm wondering if these ISOs are hacked, corrupted or if it's just the SHA1 sums that are wrong on the fedora mirrors ?
Anyone could re-assure me ?
This is what I have (on cygwin, but this shouldn't be a problem, should it ?) :
$ sha1sum.exe Fedora-9-x86_64-DVD.iso
62a608efe79fe50fa60ce8ea9e78f46ebbcec60c *Fedora-9-x86_64-DVD.iso
$ md5sum Fedora-9-x86_64-DVD.iso*
378773de76587c2f1829b2dd86452a1a *Fedora-9-x86_64-DVD.iso
378773de76587c2f1829b2dd86452a1a *Fedora-9-x86_64-DVD.iso_old
$ grep DVD SHA1SUM

nautilus: moving files with emblems
by Colin Brace
Hi all,
On my F9 system with nautilus v2.22.5.1, files and folders lose their
emblems when I move them from one partition to another (no problems with
moves on the same partition).
Has anyone else see this behaviour? Anyone come up with a workaround?
Thanks.

Music Collection HTML Generator
by Sean Bruno
I've been poking around trying to find a decent way of creating an HTML
document that represents my music collection.
I've been using the Amarok Ruby plugin to generate a list, but it
doesn't show the tracks available per album.
Any suggestions?

Sensors monitor
by Sam Varshavchik
Is there a monitoring tool for lm_sensors in the distro? I need something
that periodically runs sensors and mails me, or shuts down, if something
goes out of wack. This would be a trivial script to write, myself, but I'd
thought someone might've invented this wheel already.
Basically, the equivalent of smartmontools, but for lm_sensors.

[F9] radeon dual-head display w/Xinerama
by Sean Bruno
Recently updated from F8 to F9 on my box and ran into a very odd issue
with my Radeon:
(lspci)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV370 5B60
[Radeon X300 (PCIE)]
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV370 [Radeon X300SE]
I attempted to use, more or less, the same xorg.conf configuration with
Xinerama that worked on F8 and it was partially successful.
The desktop area for each monitor, is somehow exceeding the displayable
area(I have to move the mouse to the edge of the monitor to make the
desktop scroll over to the rest of the desktop). This only shows up in
a dual head configuration. If I simply comment out the second display,
my primary display is sized correctly and all is well.
Both Monitors are Dell 1901FP's and worked fine under F8.

japanese keyboards and xorg (and macs?)
by Joel Rees
When running the installer, my Japanese iBook takes the US keyboard
map, which is not totally evil, just a little bit confusing at times.
In openBSD, I have been able to get most of the keyboard mapped to
the Japanese keyboard, merely by copying the jp keyboard mapping file
from /etc/X11/xkb/symbols into /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/macintosh and
setting the keyboard to jp in xorg.conf. But two keys remain
unaccessible, and one key does not remap, leaving me unable to type
underscore, right bracket, and right brace in the Japanese map.
Again, on the openBSD system, I tried the xev utility, and determined
that the two keys that are unaccessible are just not generating events.
If I get Fedora 9 running on this iBook I expect I'll see the same
thing.
Has anyone here has seen this kind of problem? or could anyone give
me some suggestions?

So, is it safe to apply updates?

Fedora 9 asking for disc 1 on dvd install
by Phil Savoie
Hi All,
Trying to load F9 on a compaq R3000. Gets to the resolving dependencies
section then pops out my dvd asking for the first cd. I pop it back in
and click on ok and then it tells me that it is the incorrect disk and
so now I am in a loop.
I don't have emerald slippers to click three times while I mumble "I
wish you would install", so would anyone have any ideas on this?
Thank you,
Phil
