problem with radeon dual head xinerama mode
by Peter Boy
Hi,
I used my radeon dual DVI card up to F7 without any problems in MergedFB
mode as one big screen (xinerama). In Fedora 9 MergedFB mode is gone and
replaced by randr compatible configuration. I figured out how to modify
xorg.conf.
My current state is:
- as soon as graphical boot screen comes up I can move the
mouse from one screen to the other and back, it is, it feels
like xinerama, but only one screen is used for messages - OK
- when gdm starts I have one big screen as expected - OK
- after login the display switches to cloned configuration - Problem
- I can manually switch to one big screen (xinerama-like) using
xrandr --output DVI-0 --right-of DVI-1
Obviously I have missed something in my configuration file. Please,
could someone have a look on it?

Re: LVM - Install F9 without LVM
by Bob Hartung
Peter,
I might give it a try since I have clean HDs. However, I was of the understanding that /boot could not reside on a logical volume (ref. fedora 9 install notes on fedora.redhat.com. From your comments it appears that /boot can reside on a logical volume without difficulty.
Thanks to all others who responded also. Note that manually I could not delete the Logical Volume. Did not try to change it.
Bob.

OT: What is fusebulk filesystem? ntpass fails to reset windows password :(
by Antonio Olivares
Dear all,
A Lenovo Laptop running Windows Vista locked out the teacher who was issued the computer at school. The teacher forgot the password. I have successfully used the SystemRescue CD http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page with the utitlity ntpass many times. This time, it failed. I also tried the cd from http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ which is the same. The laptop locked the teacher out and he could not login. I told them it was a snap and boy was I wrong. The cd locates the users and apparently all looks good and when we reboot we try with a blank password and we cannot log on. Trying other livecd's also gets us nowhere. There apparently is some garbage on the C:\Windows\system\system32 directory that prevents the ntpasswd from doing its job. When viewing the filesystem which should be NTFS, the programs accessing the drive report that the fs is fusebulk. I have not heard about fusebulk filesystem.
There has to be some sort of encryption on the drive to prevent the password blank from working.
Does anyone have any other tools that can reset the password in such a case?
Is the only solution to reformat and reinstall?
All Comments/Suggestions welcome.
TIA,
Antonio

G,
Thank you for the offer.
In the linked message
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2008-July/msg03696.html
I did, in fact, manage to download the glibc-common rpm using curl
repeatedly and targeting a number of mirrors. I was just very
unsure if it had all the right bits. I checked the rpm's
md5 and sha1 against those you provided and they matched.
I just now installed the rpm on my other (backup) machine and
it seems to be ok (login/logout, start/stop X, reboot). So I do not
think I will need to take you up on your generous offer to send me
the glibc-common rpm but thank you again.

Samba & Vista
by Steve Blackwell
I'm trying to use smbclient to look at a Vista box but I keep getting
# smbclient -L user-pc -U Kellie
Password: <I enter a_user password>
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
I know the user/password combination is good.
I googled around and got the impression that Vista didn't play well
with Samba because of some authentication protocol that Vista uses but
I also got the impression that the problem was with older version of
Samba. I never could find a definitive answer. Does someone know for
sure?
Below I've put the output of
# smbclient -L user-pc -U Kellie -d4
The bit that says
Password:
Doing spnego session setup (blob length=46)
got OID=1 3 6 1 4 1 311 2 2 10
got principal=<null>
looks a bit suspect but I don't really know what I'm looking at so it
could be perfectly OK. Any suggestion?
Thanks,
Steve

re: yum upgrade F8-F9 Gnome panels causing mischief
by Eric Mesa
Ok, so, although I did need to run sabayon, that's not what's behind the
problem. I didn't realize the .xsession-errors file gets reloaded each
time you log in. So here's my actual file. It looks like, for the most
part, the problem is that there's some 'fixed' font that doesn't exist.
So how do I change it to the proper font if I can't do anything in
gnome? One thing I read online recommended deleting the tmp/.ICE files.
Is this advisable?
