Can't remove old avahi package
by Mark Haney
I've got a frustrating little problem. I'm trying to update my system
and one package (avahi-autoipd) can't install because of conflicting
packages from avahi-0.6.17-1.i386.fc7.
However, I"ve got the F9 version installed, so that's not a problem.
What /is/ a problem is that I cannot remove that package. rpm -e bombs
with this:
[markh@sulla ~]$ sudo rpm -e avahi-0.6.17-1.fc7.i386
error: %postun(avahi-0.6.17-1.fc7.i386) scriptlet failed, exit status 1
And yum remove /says/ it's removed, but it's not:
Transaction Test Succeeded
Running Transaction
Erasing : avahi [1/1]
Removed: avahi.i386 0:0.6.17-1.fc7
Complete!
[markh@sulla ~]$ sudo rpm -qa | grep avahi
kdnssd-avahi-devel-0.1.3-0.6.20080116svn.fc9.i386
avahi-glib-0.6.22-10.fc9.i386
avahi-devel-0.6.22-10.fc9.i386
avahi-0.6.22-10.fc9.i386
avahi-qt3-0.6.22-10.fc9.i386
avahi-compat-libdns_sd-0.6.22-10.fc9.i386
kdnssd-avahi-0.1.3-0.6.20080116svn.fc9.i386
avahi-0.6.17-1.fc7.i386
So, I can't update that package because of this. I could probably remove
avahi altogether to see if that fixes this, but if I do it removes GNOME
almost completely. What can I do to get this package gone without major
surgery to my system?

login - Error in service module
by Dennis Kaptain
I am running Fedora 8 in run level 5. SELinux is enabled.
When I <ctl><alt><F[1-6]> to a virtual console I get the text login screen
I enter a username and password (either root or any normal user)
I press enter, and get a message "Error in service module"
The screen clears and returns to login.
If I disable SELinux with setenforce 0 this does not happen.
[root@confianza ~]# uname -a
Linux confianza 2.6.26.5-28.fc8 #1 SMP Sat Sep 20 09:12:30 EDT 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
in /var/log/messages I get
Oct
6 15:37:21 localhost setroubleshoot: SELinux is preventing login
(local_login_t) "read" to ./limits.conf (var_log_t). For complete
SELinux messages. run sealert -l 5f8baee3-51a7-4c91-bb95-2499cf6e0f6f
So as recommended I ran
[root@confianza log]# sealert -l 5f8baee3-51a7-4c91-bb95-2499cf6e0f6f
Summary:
SELinux is preventing login (local_login_t) "read" to ./limits.conf (var_log_t).
Detailed Description:
SELinux denied access requested by login. It is not expected that this access is
required by login and this access may signal an intrusion attempt. It is also
possible that the specific version or configuration of the application is
causing it to require additional access.
Allowing Access:
Sometimes labeling problems can cause SELinux denials. You could try to restore
the default system file context for ./limits.conf,
restorecon -v './limits.conf'
If this does not work, there is currently no automatic way to allow this access.
Instead, you can generate a local policy module to allow this access - see FAQ
(http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/selinux-faq-fc5/#id2961385) Or you can disable
SELinux protection altogether. Disabling SELinux protection is not recommended.
Please file a bug report (http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/enter_bug.cgi)
against this package.

Doesn't help
I read the FAQ at http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/selinux-faq-fc5/#id2961385
I read the man page for audit2allow and I don't get it.
Has anyone run into this before? How do I fix it without having to disable SELinux?
Thanks for your help

SELinux - a question about external drive after upgrade
by mike cloaked
I have a question related to something I had not thought about before...
I have an external USB drive that has been used for quite some time as a
backup drive attached to a machine that has SELinux disabled. Other machines
in the LAN are backed up to the same external drive using rsync to the machine
on which the external drive is attached. So there are no security contexts
for files on the backup drive.
Some of the other local machines are now upgraded to F9 running SElinux enabled,
but of course the backups produce files on the external drive without any
SELinux context information, since the machine that writes then has SELinux
disabled!
So the question arises - if the main machine is then upgraded to F9 with
SELinux enabled - what will happen to backup files when the original external
drive is plugged in and used?
Will the filesystem on the external drive need to be relabelled once the machine
on which it is attached has been upgraded? If so what is the cleanest and safest
way to get the whole system using SELinux?

"yum erase <some kernel>" does not remove /lib/modules/<some kernel>. Why?
by Joachim Backes
Hi,
I saw that "yum erase <some-kernel>" does not remove the correspondent
/lib/modules/... entry. Therefore I had a lot of stuff (from fc7, f8,f9)
in this directory. How can I achieve that "yum erase <some kernel>"
removes /lib/modules/<some kernel> too? Or, are they needed for the future?

gnash and swfdec won't work
by Martín Marqués
I have a problem with a specific flash, which are tutorials done in
presentations [1].
The thing is, flash-plugin (from adobe) shows the flash .swf ok (on an
older i386 computer), with sound and everything. gnash and swfdec
don't (on my new AMD64). gnash and swfdec shows OK videos from youtube
and one of the most important newspapers of Argentina [2].
What am I missing? Why does gnash show the youtube videos with sound
and everything, but not this powerpoint presentation[1]?

I've had this problem in the past and I've checked the past suggestions and
I am still unable to get the system to boot.
What I have done so far (while using the rescue CD)
verified that the UUID's listed in the /etc/mdadm.conf file are correct
(mdadm -D /dev/mdX matches what's in the conf file).
Reinstalled grub with "grub-install /dev/sda" and "grub-install /dev/sdb"
Reviewed bugzilla bugs 447818 & 444237 and tried modifying the
/etc/rc.sysinit file to create the arrays at boot time.
Any suggestions would really be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff
