ssmtp problem
by Petrus de Calguarium
I need system mail to be delivered to my user account. I do not send mail to the outside world using mailx etc, as I use my ISP's pop server. I only have one user on the computer, me (and me as root).
I used sendmail successfully, but thought it might be overkill, so decided to try ssmtp.
I stopped the sendmail daemon. I configured alternatives --config mta. I edited /etc/ssmtp.conf, with root=me and mailhub=localhost.localdomain (I have also tried localhost.localdomain:25).
When I try to send mail as root to me, or as me to root, the following error ensues: send-mail: Cannot open localhost.localdomain:25. System mail is not delivered.
I left newaliases as it was for sendmail, with root's mail being delivered to me, as I still want that, but using ssmtp instead.
Do I need to open the firewall? But I don't want the program to send to the outside world, nor do I want to receive with this program from the outside world. Just system mail on this computer to an account on this computer.

Synchronizing PalmOS device with F9
by Marcelo Magno T. Sales
Hi,
I have a PalmOS device (Sony Clié PEG-TH55) that I have been
synchronizing with Fedora 8 flawlessly using KPilot.
However, in Fedora 9, no /dev/ttyUSB device is created when the Clié is
connected to the PC. I got the following in /var/log/messages:
Oct 7 15:48:35 home-01 kernel: usb 4-2: new full speed USB device using
uhci_hcd and address 3
Oct 7 15:48:35 home-01 kernel: usb 4-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1
choice
Oct 7 15:48:35 home-01 kernel: usb 4-2: New USB device found,
idVendor=054c, idProduct=0144
Oct 7 15:48:35 home-01 kernel: usb 4-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1,
Product=2, SerialNumber=0
Oct 7 15:48:35 home-01 kernel: usb 4-2: Product: Palm Handheld
Oct 7 15:48:35 home-01 kernel: usb 4-2: Manufacturer: Palm. Inc.
However, no device is created.
How do I get old /dev/ttyUSB0?
Thanks,
Marcelo

FC9 system update conflicts with avahi fc7 package
by Globe Trotter
Hi,
yum update after a few days has left me stumped on F9!
I download the packages and then yum runs the right transaction checks, etc. I get:
Transaction Check Error:
file /etc/avahi/avahi-autoipd.action from install of avahi-autoipd-0.6.22-10.fc9.i386 conflicts with file from package avahi-0.6.17-1.fc7.i386

Error Summary
-------------
I have tried removing avahi, etc, of the fc7 but I can not get it off the system, despite
yum remove avahi-0.6.17-1.fc7.i386
......
Erasing : avahi [1/1]
Removed: avahi.i386 0:0.6.17-1.fc7
Complete!
but
yum update -y
again provides the same thing:
Transaction Check Error:
file /etc/avahi/avahi-autoipd.action from install of avahi-autoipd-0.6.22-10.fc9.i386 conflicts with file from package avahi-0.6.17-1.fc7.i386

F10 beta: No xorg.conf, where to tweak Synaptics pad?
by Chris Bredesen
Hello List,
I'm on F10 (Dell D610 laptop) and so far it's gone very well. rhgb
hangs but I shut that off anyhow.
I'm a bit confused about the Synaptics support. I'd traditionally had a
large-ish xorg.conf that included all my Synaptics parameters making my
touchpad useful.
F10 doesn't ship with an xorg.conf and it seems that the input hotplug
facility now handles all of this. However, I can't find any way to
tweak the parameters of my Synaptics pad.
I started down the road of creating a basic xorg.conf but it seems I
have to have quite a lot in there in order for X to even start. I don't
want to do this if I don't have to. So I have 2 questions:
1. Synaptics parameters are really *user* preferences -- where should
these be stored, if X isn't controlling it?
2. If I do revive my old xorg.conf, am I giving up any of the
dynamic-ness of newer Xorg in F10 by doing so? I want to have X
completely manage my displays itself; no static data.
Any help is appreciated! Original thread is on the forum, if you're
interested (but it's a dead end, as explained in my last post).

lcd in kde doesn't get password protected and get in standby mode at tha same time
by Gabriel Ramirez
Hi,
I'm using kde 4.1.1 with Fedora 9 and latest updates using a lcd samsung
226bw, but I 'm unable to get the lcd to sleep when I have a screensaver
active or set screen to blank, and the reason of setting the screensaver
is because I want to have the screen locked after certain amount of time
and after that put the lcd to standby, suspend or power off.
I tried the options in System Settings -> Display -> Power Control
- Standby and suspend works only without any screensaver active , result
the monitor sleep but isn't password protected
- Power off option doesn't work, maybe because is a lcd screen and not a
cathode ray monitor, the online help refers to the later.
if I set a screensaver the screen is password protected but never
standby/suspend
a weird thing is I set the following:
- the standby or suspend to 10 minutes.
- the screen saver to 15 minutes.
result the screen saver kickin and the the lcd doesn't get to standby or
suspend
anyone knows how to get the lcd to sleep and password protected.
thanks in advance,
Gabriel
