git-core rpm corrupted
by Ric Moore
The rpm file "git-core" in the "everything" branch for red hat/fedora 7
is corrupted. I found the file at rpm.pbone in one piece. Just a heads
up so someone else can avoid spending way too much time trying to dnload
it over and over. Ric

Belkin Wireless G USB
by John Pierce
Hello!
I posted this to the linux wireless list and have received not
response. I thought maybe someone on the fedora list might have had
some success.
I just purchased a belkin wireless g usb adapter and am not having any
luck getting it to work.
The following is the output from various commands, if more info is
needed then I will post it back.
Distro: Fedora 7
Kernel: 2.6.22.4-65.fc7
I have created a ifcfg-wlan0 file in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
with the following:
GATEWAY=192.168.1.1
TYPE=Wireless
DEVICE=wlan0
BOOTPROTO=static
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
IPADDR=192.168.1.60
ONBOOT=yes
USERCTL=yes
IPV6INIT=no
PEERDNS=yes
ESSID=thedungeon
CHANNEL=11
MODE=Managed
RATE=Auto
SECURITYMODE=open
I have a keys-wlan0 file in that same directory with the wep key for my router.
I set up a file named zd1211 in the /etc/modprobe.d/ directory with
the following in it.
alias wlan0 zd1211rw_mac80211
This is the output of dmesg immediately after inserting the usb adapter.
usb 2-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7
usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usb 2-2: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7
wmaster0: Failed to select rate control algorithm
wmaster0: Failed to initialize rate control algorithm
usb 2-2: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7
zd1211rw_mac80211: probe of 2-2:1.0 failed with error -2
usbcore: registered new interface driver zd1211rw_mac80211
This is the output of lsusb after inserting the adapter.
Bus 002 Device 007: ID 050d:705c Belkin Components
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 15d9:0a33
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
When I try the run ifup wlan0 this is the output.
zd1211rw_mac80211 device wlan0 does not seem to be present, delaying
initialization.
Every thing I have read indicates that this device is supported in
linux, including the vendor and device id.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Squid - transparent proxy + apache
by Nicolas Canepa
Hi everyone,
I install a FC6 router in my house. I configured Squid to be a transparent
proxy. I put the rules needed in my iptables config, and everything is
working fine.
The question is, how can I configure an apache web server in the same
machine as the transparent proxy, because with iptables I redirect al
packets going to port 80 entering the LAN interface to port 8080 (squid
proxy), so I cannot reach the apache web server.
##############################################################################
This is the rule for redirection that i´m using:
(eth1 LAN iface anr 192.168.1.1 is the router.)
${IPT} -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth1 -p tcp --dport 80 -j DNAT
--to-destination 192.168.1.1:8080
##############################################################################
I attached my squid.conf
Thanks in advance,
Nicolas Canepa

selinux alerts delivered to non-root users
by Dave Burns
Is there a way to turn off the GUI selinux alert/setroubleshoot icons
etc. for particular users?
On the machine in question, I have selinux set to permissive mode and
its primary user is someone else who does not have root. He says
selinux is nagging him. I told him to try to ignore it, and I've been
using sealert over ssh to try to remove some of the causes. But there
really is never any reason for him to see any of this. He can't do
anything about it other than nag me.
So how do I take him out of the loop?

Stuff
by Karl Larsen
The update for Open Office arrived here and I tried to print in
landscape mode and it worked just fine on F7.
The Fedora web page in Red Hat says F8 will be available in 7 days.
So get ready. My DSL Internet is so slow I may buy a DVD from CheapBytes.

Iptables port 5353 -
by Bob Goodwin
I often see a long list of of these packets blocked in the
Firestarter log.
--------------------- iptables firewall Begin ------------------------
Listed by source hosts:
Logged 63 packets on interface eth0
From 192.168.1.6 - 63 packets to igmp(0) udp(161,5353)
---------------------- iptables firewall End
-------------------------
It appears that I [192.168.1.6] am the source of them? Should I
have 5353 open? What is there significance?

For a particular user, I would not know a precise answer, however, you can run
# ckconfig setroubleshoot off
setroubleshoot 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off
and it will be disabled alltogether.

Antonio

Beryl issue - no title bar on windows and can't start beryl
by Sudheer
Hello,
I clicked on the beryl-manager icon to launch it. I selected beryl
window manager and the desktop froze. The keyboard would not function. I
had to restart the computer by pressing the power switch on CPU.
Now when I can't launch beryl manager to switch back to another window
manager. When I try the desktop freezes. The blue color title bar is
missing on all windows. Therefore, I can't access the minimize, maximize
and close buttons. I can't resize any windows either. There is no
beryl-manager icon on the tray.
How can I fix this problem? beryl-manager was working before. It has
been a long time since I used it. I don't know what happened to it now.
