Internet Connection Failure
by jery_wang
I have a problem with my internet connection. I just recently configured my Linksys router with a "WEP" key and secured it on Windows XP. Here is what I did:
1. I opened up my web browser and typed in 192.168.1.1
2. Typed in username and password and logged in.
3. Went to wireless settings and gave it a WEP key.
4. Saved it and I exit out of browser.
5. Went to my wireless configurations and saw that it was secured and had a WEP key which is what I want. Internet seems ok.
Everything seems to be working fine on Windows after I configured it. But when I boot to Fedora Core 4, I can't connect to the net. I know that the configuration some how had an affect. Anyway, I normally would type in "/sbin/ifup wlan0" in terminal to activate the internet but it doesn't work this time. It gave me the following error:
"Determining IP information for wlan0.....failed"
I don't know what to do or where to begin to fix this. I have a Linksys router and I use Netgear MA111.

me, with the exception that 2.6.2 times out and fails to connect. It
seems to be downloading everything on the server - check your disk space
usage. Have you tried a previous version? I have bugzillaed this, but am
not up to fixing it.. Bill

psychic emacs
by Amadeus W.M.
Do this on FC5:
emacs foobar.spec
Can I configure emacs to do the same with other
file types, or is it compiled in? E.g. whenever I open a blank
foobar.cc automatically #include certain header files, and create
a usage() and main() stub.
On second thought, maybe it's getting too close
to M$, trying to be smarter than it should. A feature like this
should not be enabled by default, but a configuration option
would be good.

FC5: problem with pci/e video card "ati rage theatre"
by Joachim Backes
Hi,
having running FC5 on an ASUS board A8R-MVP (no AGP, but PCI express). My video card
ATI Rage Theatre is not completely recognized (lcpci):
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Unknown device 71c0
01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc Unknown device 71e0,
and after calling system-config-display the video card is only configured for VESA mode.
Is there any depository for fitting drivers?
Any advice appreciated.
Regards
Joachim Backes

Privoxy under Fedora dying randomly
by Beartooth
I'm not sure whether this is a privoxy problem or a fedora problem; I run
only fedora. (Followups set to gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.general).
Every once in a while, randomly afaict, privoxy dies on me. (At least now,
since some recent update, Firefox says that, instead of just giving me a
404, as it used to and other browsers still do. Bravo Firefox! A 404 with
an ISP notorious for unreliable connections is a much bigger pain.)
I go into Service Configuration and tell privoxy to restart. Service
Configuration appears to hang. Eventually I kill it -- and privoxy is
running again. (I suppose I should use ps ax with grep instead; I haven't,
so far, since this doesn't happen often enough to make my fingers learn
that.)
I use privoxy out of the box (if we can still say that) -- never even go
into the configuration files, and would have to dig to find them.
This began happening on my wife's machine, under FC4 iirc, and at first
only on it.
It's a minor problem, since it's readily remediable, but irritating. What
should I do?

Evolution 2.2.3 filters
by Kanwar Ranbir Sandhu
Hello List,
I'm trying to set up a basic new mail notification with zenity. Here's
the script:
#!/bin/bash
zenity --notification
--window-icon="/usr/share/icons/Flat-Blue/48x48/emblems/emblem-mail.png"
--text="You have mail."
In Evolution, I setup a filter like so:
Rule name: test
If
Status is not Read
Then
Run Program ~/bin/notify
I've also made sure to turn on INBOX filtering for the account I'm
testing with. The actual script is set to 755.
When a new message arrives, the filter never executes. However, if I
select the message and then manually Apply Filters, the filter runs -
the icon pops up in the notification area.
I have no idea what's wrong. I'm doing something incorrectly, or
Evolution is busted. Anyone have an idea which one?
Thanks,
Ranbir

iCal Server
by Thomas Paine
I've been looking all morning for something to install on my Fedora
Core 5 server or RHEL server to allow a bunch of people to share their
calendars through Outlook 2003.
I would prefer something that I could run loacally on the server and
not let internet users access it but would consider a free website
where I can create the accounts for my users and then share the
calendar that way.
Thanks.

possible problem viewing images in firefox
by Jack Gates
Does any one have their bank account with Wachovia and do you try to
view your online check images with this browser?
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060614
Fedora/1.5.0.4-1.2.fc5 Firefox/1.5.0.4 pango-text
Are you able to view those images every time?
If you were having trouble viewing them and got it resolved what did
you do to resolve the problem?
For those of you who don't use this bank the check image is viewed by
clicking on a link, a pop up windows appears, the check is retrieved
and becomes viewable.
I have noticed that the retrieval process some times is stopping to
soon to retrieve the image. I have the site in my allow pop ups but
it still does not work most of the time now.
Does any one have any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any potential help

Help using scripts when USB devices plug-in
by Samuel Díaz García
Hi, I'm searching how-to use a script when I connect my webcam or my
movil USB cable.
For example, when I connect the USB movile cable, I need to put 666
permisions on /dev/ttyACM0 detected device, or when I plug-in my webcam
into my notebook, I need the same into /dev/video0 device.
Where I can add these scripts to allow all users to take control over
the pluged-in devices?
Thanks
