spca5xx freezes system

2.6.16-1.2080_FC5smp
gcc (GCC) 4.1.0 20060304 (Red Hat 4.1.0-3)
spca5xx-20060402
Compiles and installs fine. Modprobe spca5xx works fine. Here's the /var/log/messages output of doing a "modprobe spca5xx":
Apr 16 12:18:39 electron kernel: Linux video capture interface: v1.00
Apr 16 12:18:39 electron kernel: usbcore: registered new driver spca5xx
Apr 16 12:18:39 electron kernel: /root/spca5xx-20060402/drivers/usb/spca5xx.c: spca5xx driver 00.57.11 registered
Next, I plug in the camera, and /var/log/messages gives:
Apr 16 12:20:33 electron kernel: usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4
Apr 16 12:20:33 electron kernel: usb 1-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

But when I run spcaview, it freezes the machine. For obvious reasons I can't cut-n-paste the screen output. Any ideas?

Adding a gimp plugin
by Anne Wilson
Linux Format this month mentions a plugin that takes the largest possible crop
after a rotate or perspective adjustment. It's found at
http://registry.gimp.org/plugin?id=7636
I see that there is a plugins subdirectory under ~/.gimp-2.2, but putting the
python script there doesn't seem to make it available in any menu. Where
should it go?

by Chris Bradford
Hi guys,
Bit of ad odd question:
Is there a way I can get a message box to pop-up that has agree /
disagree on it and where I can display our IT policy?
If the users accepts they can continue, if the do not the system will
log them off.
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
-Chris

Firefox unable to use shared audio
by Andre Costa
Hi,
I have Firefox 1.5.0.4 installed from tarball (not RPM), and it is
unable to use audio (eg. flash) whenever any other app is doing it,
even though audio players do play along well among themselves (eg.
audacious and xine are able to play audio simultaneously).
I've looked on the net for some tips, and found some that apparently
solve the problem for Ubuntu:
http://www.macewan.org/2006/06/01/howto-firefox-flash-video-sound-on-ubun...
Is there anything similar for Fedora? Would I have this problem if I
used the RPM?
TIA
Andre

VIDEO_TS.BUP VIDEO_TS.VOB VTS_01_0.IFO VTS_01_2.VOB VIDEO_TS.BUP VIDEO_TS.VOB VTS_01_0.IFO VTS_01_2.VOB VIDEO_TS.IFO VTS_01_0.BUP VTS_01_1.VOB :(
by Heikki Pesonen
I have old 2*8 and super 8 films I have earlier transferred to computer
using VHS-video. In my recent computer I do not have the analog video input
device. A friend of mine transferred my movies to DVD, and I see them in my
DVD-TV system. So I thought It's as simple as earlier to transfer the data
from the DVD to the computer.
Earlier I used Pinnacle Studio in Windows, which is a very good program to
use, although unstable. But now Pinnacle Studio 9 can not read the files in
the DVD, although they seem to be mpeg-files. In Linux the content of my DVD
is:
[fossiili@localhost JVC_DVD_ROM_PVD]$ ls
VIDEO_TS
[fossiili@localhost JVC_DVD_ROM_PVD]$ cd VIDEO_TS
[fossiili@localhost VIDEO_TS]$ ls
VIDEO_TS.BUP VIDEO_TS.VOB VTS_01_0.IFO VTS_01_2.VOB
VIDEO_TS.IFO VTS_01_0.BUP VTS_01_1.VOB
[fossiili@localhost VIDEO_TS]$
I appreciate, if you can tell me some programs I could use
1. to read these VOB-files and transfer them to some common mpeg-format I
could move to vfat and after that process in Windows
2. to edit the files in Fedora Core 5 and write the results to DVD/CD or
VHS.
No wonder, that "Totem was not able to play this disk" - neither could any
program I have in my WindowsXP Home. It does not matter, because a cheap
device with my old TV can do that!

Weird keyboard lockup
by Tarjei Knapstad
A colleague is experiencing some weird keyboard lockups under FC4
(fully updated). After some random interval of about 1-2 hours it
looks like X just stops receiving keyboard events, not even responding
to Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. The mouse works just fine, and I can start a
terminal and enter commands by pasting bits and pieces using the
mouse. The box has an ATI graphics card (Radeon 9600), but uses the
stock X 'radeon' driver.
The end of /var/log/Xorg.log.0 looks like (repeated several times):
SetClientVersion: 0 8
SetGrabKeysState - disabled
SetGrabKeysState - enabled
Any ideas to what could be wrong/how to fix this?
Thanks,

SELinux avc: denied after upgrading phpBB
by Clodoaldo Pinto
FC5. After upgrading phpBB from 2.0.19 to 2.0.21 I get this message:
kernel: audit(1154193819.965:244): avc: denied { getattr } for
pid=10862 comm="httpd" name="index.php" dev=sda1 ino=2553454
scontext=user_u:system_r:httpd_t:s0 tcontext=user_u:object_r:tmp_t:s0
tclass=file
Why didn't I have it with the old version?
I know there are booleans related to httpd:
# getsebool -a | grep httpd
allow_httpd_anon_write --> off
allow_httpd_mod_auth_pam --> off
allow_httpd_sys_script_anon_write --> off
httpd_builtin_scripting --> on
httpd_can_network_connect --> off
httpd_can_network_connect_db --> on
httpd_can_network_relay --> off
httpd_disable_trans --> off
httpd_enable_cgi --> on
httpd_enable_ftp_server --> off
httpd_enable_homedirs --> on
httpd_rotatelogs_disable_trans --> off
httpd_ssi_exec --> on
httpd_suexec_disable_trans --> off
httpd_tty_comm --> off
httpd_unified --> on
Which one, if any, can solve this problem?

nfs questions!!!
by bruce
hi...
i've kind of setup nfs... but i have some questions/issues.
1) how do i allow the nfs on the client to always be active. currently i've
had to do a "mount 192...:/foo/data /data" to be able to share the drive.. i
know there's a way to setup the system to have the nfs always setup on
boot-up.
2) i add a file to the shared dir from the nfs system. i try to edit it from
a client, and i can't. as a client, i can copy the file to my local dir, and
edit it.. but as a client, i can't overwrite the file on the nfs share.
any pointers/thoughts would be helpful... i'm missing something in the docs
that i've bben looking at.
thanks

RE: Web-design in Fedora
by LinuxMedia

I learned from a book called "HTML 4 for the world wide web" (fourth
edition) by Elizabeth Castro. I can't imagine a better, easier book to
follow and understand. And it's an extreemly good reference book. If you
want to look up how to do something specific... you go right to that page.
I have since lost touch with the (constant and endless) changes with
creating web pages and web sites. But HTML 4 is a very solid, basic
language that should run on most (if not all) browsers. Any browser
specific tags (in the book) are clearly listed as such.
Hope this helps,
Rocco
