Solutions can only apply to new projects or ones where
all the copyright holders are known.

Perl has the right idea with the dual license. It's gpl'd
if you need it to be and yet not subject to the restrictions
if you don't want them. And Larry Wall is brilliant for
recognizing the need for that and coming up with a way
to avoid fanaticism.

Failures with cdrecord
by Janina Sajka
All of a sudden I'm finding myself unable to burn a cd rom with
cdrecord. I'm having the same problem on three different systems, each
of which is running fully updated FC5. The cdrecord on each of these
machines is cdrecord-2.01.01.0.a03-3, unchanged since March last. I'm
also quite certain that I had no problems burning back around the
beginning of May. I've tried a few different discs, and scsi, ide, usb
and firewire burners--all with the similar failures like the following:
cmd finished after 0.001s timeout 200s

Is it me? My media? Or something in some library? I've downversioned two
kernels, but still get the same failure.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Yum.repos.d -- and livna? -- on FC5.ppc??
by Beartooth
I got the livna.org URLs from a couple of livna threads here, but can't
get in at the moment.
I'm getting persistent errors from yum update on a machine running
FC5.ppc, saying it can't find a valid baseurl for repo: core. My
/etc/yum.repos.d contains the same files as on my x86 FC5 machines, except
that the livna ones are not there. Would installing them help, next time I
can get to livna? Or is this something else?

Fedora 5 DVD - hangs during dependency check
by Roberto Mason
I've download Fedora 5 DVD. I've done sha1sum check, all is fine. When I
first ran the install, I had the installation verify the DVD, everything
is fine. When i do either an upgrade or a fresh install, the system
hangs on the dependency check. Thinking that I had a bad burn, I re
burned a DVD, but I got the same result. Anyone else have the same
problem?

USB WiFi
by Timothy Murphy
Is anyone using USB WiFi devices with Fedora?
I have a Lucent/Orinoco USB Gold Client,
I have been looking at the
"Linux driver for Lucent/Agere ORiNOCO USB devices"
by Øystein Olsen at <http://folk.uio.no/oeysteio/orinoco-usb/>,
and have downloaded the Fedora-3 RPM.
Unfortunately, I find some of the instructions rather confusing.
(1) It says that
"The orinoco-usb driver is for now only available from cvs".
But I can't find an orinoco-usb CVS.
Does this mean the orinoco CVS?
In any case, since there is an orinoco-usb rpm.
I assume there must be a separate CVS for this application.
Is this a misunderstanding?
Or if not, where is the orinoco-usb CVS?
(2) It says in the introudction
In <http://folk.uio.no/oeysteio/orinoco-usb/index.html>
"The orinoco-usb driver is for now only available from cvs.
I put together this page to simplify
the building and installation of the driver.
The driver and script to build the driver,
are all available from the RPMS directory."
I don't understand this;
if the driver is only available from cvs
then what is the RPM?
(3) Later on the same page, it says
"April 2005
Thanks to a tip from Martin Visser, the firmware package is no longer
necessary. The firmware is hard-coded into the driver instead. In short if
you use a driver which is newer that April 4th 2005 or if you use
build-source.sh, you can safely ignore all instructions related to the
firmware and hotplug."
But where exactly does one find a driver newer than April 4th 2005?
Any suggestions or advice gratefully received.

Initrd /dev scripts?
by Clint Olson
Hi!
Hey, I'm trying to get FC5 to work with coLinux
(http://www.colinux.org). I've got it so that it boots just fine --
however, apparently FC5 creates its /dev device nodes at boot time, via
a script run from initrd. Since coLinux doesn't execute this initrd,
most of the devices normally available in /dev simply aren't there when
I boot via coLinux. I'm trying to figure out how to extract the initrd
so I can find the script and migrate it over to something that gets
executed when coLinux boots. Any pointers?

kernel-2.6.16-1.2122_FC5: no ACPI sleep

I upgraded to this kernel to build a graphics driver,
but I appeared to lose ACPI sleep in the process. I
am now back using kernel-2.6.15-1.2054_FC5, where
there is no problem. I'm not much bothered about it,
so I'll just leave a little log.
